Title: Great information and recipes
Review: What I love about the four ATK books I now have is that they're not just cookbooks, they're also reference books with sections on equipment/tools, ingredients, and "why this recipe works." I know I get much better results and save money reading all the sidebars. I have "What Good Cooks Know;" "Just Add Sauce," "Food Processor Perfection," and now this one on slow cookers. It's phenomenal. I'll be converting a lot of my favorite recipes and trying many more new ingredients/recipes/techniques to stock my freezer for the snowy weather coming up.

Title: This is a wonderful book
Review: I really enjoy the quality and depth of flavor from the food I create when using this cookbook. This cookbook will turn your meals into a work of art. If you are trying to decide whether you can cook using this cookbook I would rate myself as an above average home cook. I think that a beginner cook might be turned off by the number of ingredients required to complete the meal. However, being married almost 20 years with over 50 spices at this point in my spice rack this cookbook really turned up the quality of my finished dinner. A beginner cook could do it but may be a little intimidated. Have no fear!!! I think the fact that you can easily find all of the ingredients at your local grocery store would make a new home cook look like a champion in the kitchen. This cookbook makes it possible for a young bride to pull together an exceptional dinner for her in-laws. If you are one of those people buy this book today.I have mixed feelings about the time involved preparing the meals when the end result is so good. Some of the meal prep is a little rigorous. But, the food is DELICIOUS. I can't see how the slow cooker books with five ingredients create anything that comes close to what this book creates.So... here is my plan. I love slow cookers. I own three. I figure that I can do one heavy cooking day (Sunday?) with three cookers and reheat during the week. I did that about three weeks ago. I used a power strip and had my three slow cookers lined up on the floor next to my kitchen table like soldiers. My garage was cold so I placed the cookers in the garage until my meals could be placed into containers and put into the refrigerator. The end result was an easy cooking week with great meals.Buy this book and give the other slow cooker books away.

Title: Great recipes, poor book binding
Review: I love this book so much but the binding started falling apart a few months after I bought it. Three years later itâs almost completely fallen apart and the pages are mostly loose in the center. Itâs a shame because content wise, this is a great cookbook. Lots of easy to follow recipes and the variety is - chefs kiss! If I were to go back in time I would have invested in the spiral bound version.

Title: More than a cookbook
Review: Originally I purchased this cookbook for my mom for Christmas. She mentioned she needed a new slow cooker so I thought a new slow cooker would need a good cookbook. After receiving it and skimming it to make sure the recipes would be easy as well as tastey I haven't been able to bring myself to wrap the book because I enjoy it too much. I have 20 or so days... Never fear, it will go to my mom. This book is a well done cookbook. The recipes sound tastey and easy enough to do ( more involved than other slow cooker recipes I have seen but not so involved that I would shy away from them. I have 2 young kids and would still find many of these recipes not to time involved.) There is a great introduction section describing how to best use a slow cooker. I have always wondered why certain recipes worked in our round cooker and others fell short. Lastly, with many of the recipe pages there are tips on how to get the best flavors, even cook of meats or how to select ingredients.

Title: Slow Cooking Convenience without the Sacrifice...
Review: of flavor.I've used slow cookers ever since I was in college to a limited extant, but all the books I've had usually rely on either the sacrifice of quality or significant effort up front. Sacrificing quality was always something I lived with to some extent, but as a grad student or working father, I never had the time for all the prep some recipes took.Admittedly, more prep usually means better quality results, but the end result had always been that I had been worn down to about 5 recipes being all I would make in my slow-cooker, and most of those were soups or chili. So I approached this book cautiously. My wife and I do love Cooks Illustrated and America's Test Kitchen books, but our use of their recipes has been limited with the expansion of our family. Their recipes tend to be more work and have a lot of prep. And, this book doesn't appear much different, but there are a lot of nice benefits. We've now cooked 5 recipes out of the book, and they've all been great. First, the book has nice color labels on the recipes, which give you a quick idea of what you are getting into. There are recipes identified as "Easy Prep" or "All Day" for instance. The first couple of chapters provide a lot of information and tips, which I think are fantastic for giving a background into how the recipes work (typical ATK type stuff). In terms of recipe preparation, there are some that take a lot of work, but the authors also worked in short-cuts as appropriate.I know there are some who complain about the reliance on microwaves in the initial stages of a recipe. For instance, many recipes have you softening onions or garlic using oil. I guess if you are strongly against microwaves, I can see the complaint, but what a lifesaver. It's much easier to soften the onions for a few minutes in a microwave than 20 minutes on the stove-top at 6am. The microwave for this purpose is a revelation to me. Browning meat can still be a hassle, but I've gotten into the habit of doing that the night before. The other revelation is that the overall processes for many recipes are pretty consistent from recipe to recipe, and it works. This has actually allowed me to adjust recipes found elsewhere (soups, stews, etc) to work. This book works well beyond its bounds, which has made a great Indian cook book even greater. This is why I've always liked ATK books. They explain a lot, which makes it easy to adjust recipes to your liking. The only thing I would express caution about the book is their reviews and recommendations of crock-pots. This probably doesn't matter if you are reading this review (which presumes you'll read others), but their top recommended slow-cooker gets horrible reviews on Amazon and elsewhere. The book inspired us to get a slow-cooker with a timer, but we ended up buying a Hamilton Beach because despite the caution in this book, the internet suggests that the Hamilton Beach products can work just fine. We've only had the slow-cooker 2 weeks, but I'll review it once I have more to stand-by.I've never had such a great slow-cooker cookbook and will likely get rid of the others I have.

Review: We're a household that enjoys cooking and as a rule we don't like shortcuts. I've never enjoyed slow cooker recipes because they often call for processed ingredients (e.g. sachets, canned cream of whatever soups). This is EXACTLY the book I needed. There may be a little prep involved, but the recipes come out tasting just like the would from the oven or stove. With two full-time working adults and a toddler at home, this cook book is helping us eat the way we like while maximizing our time with our child.

Review: Me encanta.
