The Christian Athlete is a gospel-centered guide that assists athletes who identify as Christians and are seeking to understand how to practically apply their faith to their sport.
Athletes desire—and deserve—a more substantive expression of the Christian faith in the context of sport, but they don’t know what it looks like or where to turn to learn more.
Author Brian Smith shares his story as an athlete and coach, and his experience working with high-level athletes in the last decade to help readers better understand how to integrate faith and sport by: Assisting those who want a wide-angled understanding of how to live the Christian faith in the context of sportsWalking through the many questions Christian athletes ask about winning, losing, injuries, practice, and everything in betweenMoving Christian athletes from simply having clichéd spiritual sayings decorating their bodies or t-shirts to actually living out their faith through all the opportunities their sport offers themThe Christian Athlete will show readers how to live out a biblical perspective on athletics and urge them to engage in the gifts they are given to glorify God whether they are the team MVP or riding the bench.

Title: There is a way for the Christian Athlete to flourish fully both on and off the playing field
Review: "The Christian Athlete: Glorifying God in Sports" is a biblically grounded, concisely written, purposeful practice model for athletes, coaches, life counselors, parents, and personal trainers who both understand and are committed to building a valuable relationship with their athletes who want to faithfully devote the right amount of time, effort, and perspective towards giving their very best in sports and living the Christian faith in every aspect of their lives.

Title: A Great Read for ANY Christian
Review: From the very beginning, I became entrenched in what Brian Smith shared. Every chapter is pertinent to what the Christian athlete and coach will face in sports, or any endeavor---the scripture, principles and questions were more than spot on. I would describe this work as "diagnostic"---it helps you search for meaning and truth about the life you lead as a Christian. It asks the most important question for anyone---How can you honor God and give Him the glory in what you do? Finally, Brian added a guide on the importance of giving a testimony. The Christian Athlete is deliberately written to share Biblical principles with others.

Title: Everything a Christian athlete or coach-role person has ever wondered about
Review: I'm a seventy-year-old, long-time high school coach, athlete, Christian, and patriarch of a very sports- minded family, including four athletic sons. Thank you, Brian, for a timely book, in which all athletes should find many points of interest to guide them through the high-powered sports culture in America today. It's my humble opinion that many people, young and old, continue to search for "something", to which God is the only true answer. This book will help guide any level athlete from novice to pro in their search.

Title: How to glorify God in all aspects of sports
Review: This is one of the most complete books I have read on a topic about how to live life and glorify God through athletics, or life in general. While many should and will read the book from cover to cover, it is completely possible to return to certain chapters and read them out of order as a refresher in certain areas. This is coming from a father of athletes from their perspective. As a parent this book was also helpful in an early sports season to see my sons make the best use of their current platforms to glorify and magnify God in their playing. For one of my sons who excels at his sport as a freshman in high school, he is struggling with uncontrolled factors. The lessons taught in this book were helpful to me to remind him that there may be a greater cause and reason for being in the place he is in. His younger, smaller brother is not as big but loves the game. It has been fun to encourage both of them using things described in the book to help them with their walk with Christ.I would highly recommend this book to athletes, but also to parents and coaches as it serves as a reminder of why we are in certain life positions and how we can further the Kingdom. It is evident from the passion of explaining Christ and life stories told that Brian (the author) has excelled in sports and continues to be in touch with the current athletics world through life and ministry. Without this personal touch, while sometimes raw and revealing, the book would not have had the same impact.

Title: Excellent book for athletes, coaches, and administrators!
Review: Brian Smith is an excellent writer. He addresses several difficult topics that athletes have to deal with and he addresses them with the Bible. Everyone says they glorify God when they play sports but how do they really do that? Is your identity wrapped up in your performance or is it grounded in the truth of the Bible and what God says about you? This book helps you think through all of these topics.

Title: Theological, Actionable, and Practical
Review: Brian's experience and experiences in sport ministry are on every page of this book. He grounds the actionable and practical ways of being a Christian in sport in theological and biblical truths. If you are an athlete, coach, parent, or practitioner I would recommend getting The Christian Athlete.Traversing the landscape of Christianity in sport is an arduous task many people walk alone. With this book, Brian provides a companion and guide along the way.

Title: If you are an athlete, have been, or not one-You HAVE to read this
Review: While I only have the pre-release digital version, I have to say, this book is for any athlete, coach, administrator or parent that has a child involved in sports or is invested in the growth of athletes-from student athletes to professionals. The God-centered approach that Brian brings is for anyone; even if you aren't an athlete the biblical concepts fit into work, parenting, church involvement and many other areas not directly called out in his book. His specific focus that sports are for "our" enjoyment and for God's glory is spot on. I highly recommend this book for anyone-however it will likely resonate with those in the athletic community and those obsessed with excellence in all they do. I cant wait to get the physical version in my hands so I can mark it up and highlight it. I plan to use this as a father/son devotional.

Title: Practical and Powerful!
Review: Brian Smith has done a masterful job laying out how to integrate Christian faith into sport in a way that glorifies God. It takes deep theological concepts and makes them easy to understand and apply. I wish I had a book like this back when I was competing and I am definitely sharing his concepts and examples with my own children, athletes I coach, and coaches I mentor!
