Squirrel Buster Classic is a truly squirrel-proof bird feeder with 4 feeding ports. It holds 1. 5 quart/2. 4 lb of bird seed. Attracts clinging & perching Birds. Holds up to 1.4 quarts of bird seed. view larger Harmless, but effective design makes it truly squirrel-proof. view larger Attracts a wide variety of clinging and perching birds. view larger Weight of squirrel triggers closing mechanism, preventing access. view larger Equipped with patented Squirrel Buster technology, this Brome 1015 Squirrel Buster Classic bird feeder offers an innovative design that attracts birds while keeping squirrels at bay. The bird feeder holds up to 1.4 quarts of bird seed, whether it's Black Oil sunflower seed (a good all-round birdseed) or other seed blends specific to your area. A welcome choice for bird lovers, the squirrel-proof bird feeder attracts a wide variety of clinging and perching birds including American Gold Finches, Chickadees, Hairy Woodpeckers, Cardinals, Indigo Buntings, Rose-Breasted Grosbeaks, White-Breasted Nuthatches, and Purple Finches. Openings in the wire shroud align with seed ports and provide birds access to the seed. When a squirrel climbs onto the feeder, its weight automatically forces the shroud down, closing access to the seed ports. All squirrels and many large birds are blocked from accessing the seed, but are not harmed in any way. Even more, the feeder includes a negative grip tube which prevents squirrels from grabbing the wire hanger with their hind legs, hanging down alongside the feeder, and defeating the closing mechanism. Locate your feeder just about anywhere--no more worrying about those pesky squirrels. Position the feeder by your deck, in a nearby tree, or over a favorite window for those great close-up views. The bird feeder hangs easily with the use of wall brackets, branch hooks, or extension hooks. Be sure to allow for at least 16 inches (40 cm) of clearance around the feeder. This clearance will prevent a squirrel from reaching over from a nearby foothold to access the seed without placing its weight on the feeder. Forcing the squirrel to climb all the way onto the feeder triggers the closing mechanism, preventing access. The Squirrel Buster Classic dismantles easily for filling and cleaning. A handy maximum-seed-level indicator on the bottom of the yellow center-post cap helps prevent over-filling. To clean, wash the components of Squirrel Buster Classic with a solution of dish detergent and warm water. Rinse with a solution of white vinegar, a mild natural disinfectant. The bird feeder should be hand washed only; it is not dishwasher-safe.

Title: truly squirrel-proof
Review: We have had this bird feeder for over two years and not a single squirrel has been able to get the seeds! I think they have given up, now, lol! It has held up very well and the birds love it. I have tried many other bird feeders and this is, by far, the best bird feeder we have ever had. No need to replace it yet, but when the time comes, I plan to get this one again.

Title: The last feeder you'll ever have to buy
Review: Reader's Digest summary: Durable, 100% squirrel proof, maintenance free, great customer service. Expensive, but worth it.I have had two of these feeders for nearly 3 years and couldn't be happier with how they have worked. Until some user error (I'll get into later) they have worked flawlessly. Even the smartest squirrels can't defeat them. When they hang on to the feeder, the outer-spring-activated screen slides down and covers the holes on the inner tube that holds the seed. It is the first feeder that I've found that is 100% squirrel proof. Now about the user error. We left our house-sitter in charge of filling the feeders while we were away. Unfortunately, she did not attach the lids securely when she refilled them. The lids separated from the feeder body which exposed the seed tube and the plastic rod that holds it together. That was all the squirrels needed to do their dirty deed. They gnawed through the rods and released the feeder bodies. Once on the ground, the squirrels chewed on the collars and several other parts. The feeders could still hold seed, but the spring mechanism no longer worked.I called the manufacturer to buy the parts that were needed to repair them. I explained what happened and they asked for some pictures which I supplied. They said the damage was more extensive than I thought. One was not repairable and they other needed several parts. To my amazement, they provided a refurbished feeder to replace the unrepairable one and and all of the necessary parts to fix the other one AT NO CHARGE. They even covered shipping. There was no begging or pleading involved.I have never experienced better customer service in my life. Their feeders are expensive, but they work great and truly are guaranteed for life as I learned first hand. You will never regret buying from this company.

Title: Works as advertised
Review: I love having squirrels in our yard, but I want to keep them from the bird feeders. Having watched a number of different feeders and items and ideas fail, I purchased three of the Squirrel Buster models. I waited almost three weeks to write this review because it usually takes the squirrels 5-10 days to figure out how to raid the feeders. After 20 days these feeders have successfully resisted their attempts to reach the bird seed. This is a review of the CLASSIC model.PROS1- The shroud works as advertised. Several birds can perch and hang on it without a problem, but even the smaller squirrels will force the shroud to close, preventing them from reaching the birdfeed. The shroud is a wire mesh cylinder surrounding the inner cylinder which looks to be made of a tough plastic. I don't see how the squirrels can climb on the feeder without activating the shroud.2- The feeding ports are easy for the birds to use, but look as if they would be difficult for the squirrels to reach even if the shroud did not cover them. This also makes it less likely that the seeds will fall out of the feeder when a squirrel is jostling it or when the wind moves it around.3- The cover fits securely and firmly. One of the first thing the squirrels try is to pry the cover off, and they cannot even budge it.4- The outer mesh is made of a material that looks like painted metal. I watched as one squirrel tried to chew through it to get to the feeding ports, but could not even damage it. Hopefully it will continue to resist those attempts! The mesh allows for birds like nuthatches to perch in the manner that they prefer (clinging to the side). We have a red-bellied woodpecker that also enjoys using this feeder because it can cling to the mesh.5- It is easy to refill and disassembles to allow for thorough cleaning.CONSNone of the cons is a big deal, as far as I am concerned. But I am adding them for the sake of completeness.1- The hanging wire is flexible. I initially had the feeder in a location where the squirrels could reach the cover without hanging from the wire. This allowed them to pull the feeder into an angled position, which allowed the birdseed to fall out. I changed the location to prevent this, but a stiff hanger wire would have made the change unnecessary.2- The mesh makes it easy for squirrels to climb onto. They cannot get to the feed, but for a week or two you can expect that they'll disrupt the birds as they make repeated efforts to figure out how to get to the feed. Thankfully they seem to give up after several days of fruitless efforts, and only occasionally give in to the temptation anymore.3- Some of the feeding ports are higher up than others. This makes sense and works very well, but of course when the feed runs low those ports will not be useful. I like to let the feed run out so I can clean it regularly, and this means a day or three of minimized access for the birds. As I said above, not a big deal.None of the cons are enough to remove a star because they are minor issues that are easy to foresee and because the feeder does what it promises, which is prevent the squirrels from emptying the feeder one way or another. Now they must be happy with the scraps the birds drop and the seeds and feed that I provide for them almost every day. I think they'll stay, but they might be a bit thinner now.

Review: Effectively stops squirrels and large birds taking all food and really easy to take apart and clean. Not sold as weight adjustable but I added 3 small 1mm thick washers which allow a woodpecker and starlings to feed. I've also wired a plant saucer which catches a lot of the waste. Highly recommended.

Review: Skeptical that a bird feeder can really be squirrel proof after having bought 2 (not from this company) only to have them chewed up by squirrels or the bird food emptied in one day. What makes this bird feeder different is its construction. It's designed in such a way that when something heavy hangs on it, such as your hand, the wire exterior prevents the holes of the bird feeder from lining up with the exterior, thus the squirrel cannot have access to the bird food. I like the wire exterior because the squirrels can't chew it. What they have been doing is hanging upside down on it and swinging, thus spraying the food on the ground below (they really are clever, aren't they?). But I can live with that and our bird food lasts a week, instead of a day.We have our usual beautiful cardinals, Blue Jays, woodpeckers, red finches, chickadees here in the Ottawa area come around and now even mourning doves who eat off the ground! It is so nice to enjoy the birds--not the squirrels--and to not have to run out every few minutes and scare the annoying squirrels away and to have our bird feeder remain intact and unchewed. This is an example of well thought out design and construction and I find it refreshing to have found a company that believes in superior quality products, not to mention they have a warranty on their bird feeders (how many companies do that?!). Even the packaging had built in instructions. The thought that went into this product was appreciated. The price we paid for this model is equivalent to the two bird feeders we've already purchased, so we feel that if this one lasts us more than the other two, we will have obtained good value. We will be purchasing from this company again and I have asked for their Squirrel Buster Plus as a gift!

Review: Having already purchased one for our front garden it was time to replace one of the feeders in the rear garden and this is the goto feeder for us.So easy to fill and clean and its design as attracted more birds. One in particular being a nuthatch who likes to hang upside down on the feeder.Something they were unable to do on the previous caged feeder.

Review: We got one of these as a gift 3 or 4 years ago and hung on a maple tree in our front yard, we left it out all year. We live in Ontario so winters can be brutal, the feeder is just fine and functions like new. So, I bought a few different and cheaper feeders for our back yard. Then began me versus the squirrels and chipmunks. As I am retired I had plenty of time to MacGyver many attempts to outwit them....fail. They are crafty and the feed was all over the ground. So I bought 2 more of these and problem solved. Now we are the are feeding birds, the feed lasts longer as well. We fill one with sunflower seeds and the other with standard feed and get a variety of birds. Well worth the money. Check the guarantee and parts availability should you ever need any. You won't go wrong with this feeder. Money well spent.
