Siemens standby power mechanical interlock kits provide a means to ensure that the main breaker powered by utility power within a panel is forced to the OFF position when standby power is in use. It also ensures that the standby source is forced to the OFF position when the utility power is in use. This model (ECSBPK01) is designed for use on load centers or meter combinations that will accept 2-pole circuit breakers opposite one another. It's compatible with QP, QPH, and HQPH utility main breaker and standby main breaker types.
The most common application for an interlock kits is when a portable generator is used to provide back up power to a building. If the utility main breaker in a panel is left in the -"ON"-position while a generator is powering the panel, dangerous back feeding of the utility power lines can occur. Title: It does the job.
Review: I purchased this interlock so I could add a sub-panel to my existing system which I could use for standby power with my generator. It works just fine. For me it's set up in the sub-panel with a 60A double-pole "in" from my main load center opposite a 30A double-pole "in" from the 30A inlet on the side of my house for the generator. This interlock prevents both of those breakers from being "on" at the same time. I thoroughly tested trying to get both breakers on at the same time and it was not possible - it works well. The package did include instructions. Some other reviewers have mentioned that this didn’t fit on their breakers. I’m not sure what their setup was, but at first I thought I had the same problem. The flat outer bracket that goes around the outside of both breakers was very tight. I thought that it wouldn’t fit over both breakers like those other reviews mentioned, but all it took was a little muscle. I had to squeeze the breakers together and sort of bash on that bracket with a screwdriver handle, but it went on and at that point the two breakers were locked together very nicely. The rest of the installation was a snap. This interlock does the job if you have the opposite-side double-in setup.

Title: Simple!
Review: Easy to install and saved a lot of money not having to purchase an entire separate panel (mine was generator ready from Siemens). Also, not having to buy the automatic transfer switch was a huge savings. I have a 7750 watt portable generator and it works great and electrician who installed was pleased with it's simplicity. Perfect for a portable generator.

Title: For Siemens/Murray, but works on Eaton BR Breakers too
Review: I have been looking for one of these a while now for a critical loads sub panel. I feed it primarily from a large UPS, but also need input for a generator and needed to ensure I can keep inputs isolated. I had contacted seller to ask if it would work on Eaton breakers, ut never got a response back so thought I would give it a try. IT WORKS!This one is supposedly made for Siemens and Murray, but I have confirmed (on my own and with an electrition) it also fits Eaton 2-pole BR series breakers PERFECTLY. The breaker retainer (first goes over breakers to keep them locked together), fits and NOTHING required any modification. It is UL listed as well 🙂 I did a quick install with cover off while i was finishing some things up. The retainer (triangle plate) should go on first, put the cover on, then lockout bar should be installed once you have the cover back in place.PS- I am not responsible if you light yourself up or burn your house down. My opinions and install methods are my own :-).If this was useful info, please mash the "helpful" button below and thanks

Title: Locked Out
Review: This is an excellent product for installing generator power into a load center panel. Installing this between the house main breaker and the generator breaker ensures that no back feed will occur when using generator power. Easy to install and works very well.

Title: Use 1 Siemens and 1 Square D breaker.
Review: The reason why I gave it four stars is because the metal retaining frame doesn’t fit over 2 Siemens breakers, and it specifically says to use with Siemens breakers (you would have to file it down to fit). I then tried 2 Square D breakers but the problem there was the throws on the Square D breakers are too wide, which causes one or the other to not be all the way in the “on” position. Finally I tried a Siemens on one side and a Square D on the other, then everything fit like a glove and functioned correctly. That being said, I would recommend using a Square D for one and a Siemens for the other. I didn’t try any Eaton breakers so I can’t say how those would fit.

Title: Works but not as I thought it would, big flaw, be careful!
Review: Easy to install but way over priced and it has one flaw. Only works if you use the breaker itself (not the interlock bracket) to move the breakers to the on or off position. Using the breaker switch will move both breakers at once, which is what you want. However, if you use the interlock bracket to move the breakers, it only move the switch on one breaker, leaving the other where it was. This could cause and issue with both breakers remaining in the "on" position. Should have been engineered to use the lockout to move both breakers since it has much more surface area to push against.

Title: Square D Homeline
Review: Usable with 2 Square D Homeline breakers with a little grinding down of the breaker handles. Otherwise they won't engage all the way. Good value compared to other interlocks.

Review: This was an easy installation and does exactly what it was intended for. After losing power for a few days last year I decided this was the best option for adding my generator backup to the house panel safetly.
