This is a drilled tapered rubber bung for a better seal and holds the airlock securely in place. A curved lip stops the bung from accidentally falling into the carboy.

Title: Perfect fit!
Review: I decided that instead of buying a 1 gallon (empty) glass jug or carboy I would buy a 1 gallon jug of wine and then use that jug to ferment my wine after I drank it. I bought the Carlo Rossi jugs however; when I went to put my fermentation lock on, I was dismayed to find it did not fit. I quickly purchased the plastic screw on ones with the drilled center but found that they really did not seem to give an airtight seal when I put in my airlock set. I thought that I would have to break down and purchase new glass jugs but I was delighted to find that these fit perfectly and work with my 3-piece airlock set. I find that the rubber bung’s give a better seal. These work perfectly for the glass jugs with a smaller opening.

Title: The Best One for Brewing
Review: Perfect pliability. Imparts zero taint to the brew, unlike the cheaply made ones that will contaminate your product. Excellently crafted with a smooth finish that seals flawlessly. Center hole also seals perfectly, not too narrow or too wide. This is as close to perfection that I have seen in a stopper. The lighter color is suitable, especially for a food grade stopper. It is easy to keep clean.

Title: Just what I was looking for
Review: I was skeptical about buying these, since there seemed to be no definitive specifications regarding the dimensions and I have a non-standard 5-gallon carboy (1.15" top opening diameter), and some reviews indicated that the rubber would be unyielding or slick and therefore might not seat firmly even if the size was right.Fortunately, they seem to be exactly what I needed. I have yet to use them, as they just arrived, but based on the fit and the feel of the rubber, I am confident they are just about perfect. I am including photos of micrometer measurements of the top diameter (1.3"), bottom diameter (1.06"), length (0.97"), and an idea of the resistance of the material (which is similar, in my estimation, to eraser rubber--has a good amount of give and a 'sticky' surface so it wedges much of the way into the carboy and feels like it 'grabs' the glass well) to help future customers decide if this is the right stopper for them. (And no, as other reviewers have mentioned, these are NOT fermenthaus branded as is depicted in the product images--they are vintage shop brand. mine were supplied by Home Brew Ohio.)If I run into any issues when I put them into use, I will modify my review.

Title: "Vintage shop" brand. Not "Fermenthaus"
Review: Not the "fermenthaus" brand in the advertised pic. This is made by "the vintage shop" (left, in my photo) seems to be good quality but know that the rubber, is a bit harder than what is made by fermenthaus. This might actually be better because it's probably less porous, thus less susceptible to microflora living in microscopic crevices.
