Title: A trip to remember
Review: I bought a Southern Living Magazine with a cupcake recipe from Back in the Day Bakery and loved how it turned out (and so did my family). So I looked up online to see if I can get more recipes on their website. When I discovered that they were publishing a cookbook in Mar 2012, I immediately ordered a copy on Amazon. I received my copy late in March with no problems. I never been so excited to read a cookbook, I read it like it was a novel. I read each page and was in wonder with all the recipes and pictures. I was smiling at my husband while I have the cookbook open to a page with a picture of a lovely coconut cake. I told him "Wouldn't be great if we can go to Back in the Day Bakery and have this cake?" (pointing to the coconut cake). My husband replied and said "Let's go! Where is it?" We do not live no where close to the bakery, in fact we live hundreds of miles away. But my husband got online and checked on flights. Because my husband works for an Airline company, he and I have flying benefits to fly anywhere on standby for free. We picked a date that week and he ensured me that the flight to Savannah was available and crazy enough we got on the plane, landed in Savannah airport, took a taxi and found the bakery. When we entered the bakery I felt like I stepped into the cookbook. The decor and shelf was exactly as the pictures on the book's cover. We approached the display counter filled with cupcakes and scones and bread pudding and cookies and brownies. My eyes just lit up. I had asked the young lady behind the counter who took our order if she wouldn't mind asking if Mr. and Mrs. Day to come out and sign my cookbook (yes I took my cookbook with me). Cheryl was nice enough to come out of the kitchen a few minutes later to talk to us. She was so tickled that we flew out to visit her bakery. What a lovely lady. She was very nice to sign my book and take a picture with me. Little did I know that I became her fan that day? After we got home I was so inspired by my visit to the bakery, that I made 3 recipes from the book. The Sno ball, chocolate cake and Bourbon Bread Pudding and boy oh boy were they delicious! The recipes were very easy to follow even though the Sno Ball had several steps to make but man! was it worth it. I made the Bourbon Bread Pudding again for Easter Brunch and my family asked for seconds after seconds. I am looking forward to this weekend to bake more recipes. Cheryl and Griffith Day, if you ever get to read my review, just wanted to say thank you for sharing this beautiful cookbook and sharing your recipes so that I may relive my visit to your bakery and able to bake delicious baked goods in my own kitchen. Hope to see you both more often for I'm sure this book will make you famous.

Title: Divine Oven Debuts!
Review: Have many cookbooks, this one is my all-time favorite. What a fun cookbook; turned up the inspiration dial to play with recipes and bake - daily. The mouthwatering pictures, helpful hints & writing style between recipes kept me interested, as well as reminded me how much I enjoy baking. Read reviews & was on the fence, but am so glad I ordered it. Have baked several treats from it. There are so many helpful tips for beginners & seasoned bakers to help achieve the best results. Know how sometimes you get a good book that's hard to put down & you want to read it from cover to cover? That's what this cookbook reminds me of, except also going back to savor bits and pieces of it (the recipes). My co-workers have always mentioned how much they love my cookies, however the chocolate chip cookies with fleur de sel (French Sea Salt) were taken to a whole new leveI did (however added cchopped nuts to the recipe, as love the texture/taste). Checked out the Blueberry Buckle & preferred that over my old recipe. Never thought of adding parchment paper to the bottom of the pan & that worked great. Have baked several of the other recipes. So far they've all turned out to be Divine creations that disappeared within hours of their debut from the oven. The Old Fashioned Cupcakes are TENDER, light & fluffy yet MOIST & sownright addictive. Most homemade cake recipes from upscale cook books I've tried, usually turn out dense, & without the fabulous flavor of this one, this one is perfect! Planning to bake the Mexican Hot Chocolate cookies next, in addition to the Cranberry Orange Muffins. Have a cranberry orange buttermilk recipe I already love, yet curious to see how these taste in comparison. Unable to recommend this book highly enough. Perhaps someday I'll be able to visit their bakery in Savannah, meanwhile have a little taste of their heavenly goods at my fingertips - via their cookbook. Thank you to the authors/owners for a great, inspirational cookbook.

Review: A cook book which makes me want to try every recipe in it! The book is full of lovely glossy snaps of all the delicious cakes, breads and other baked goodies from this American bakery and Cheryl and Griffith come across as so charming, that you wish this bakery was nearby!Easy to follow recipes, although some of the US ingredients are harder to source, but a quick search on the internet led me to where to buy, or what to substitute with. The Hummingbird Cake I baked at the weekend was the best I have ever tasted! Moist, light and delicious and the icing so so sweet. Can't wait to try all the recipes!

Review: This cookbook (or more baking book) has precious recipes that are true American classics. Living abroad, it was exactly what I was looking for to make me feel a bit closer to home. The first recipe I tried was the chocolate cake (the one shown with vanilla ice cream) - a dream come true. I'll never do another chocolate cake recipe. I'm eager to try more recipes!

Review: I have had this book for about 6 months and have made many of the recipes in it. Every recipe I've tried has been delicious and easy to make. The directions are straight forward, the ingredients are listed in the order they are used and there are lots of photos to entice you try something. It's also nice that the ingredients are easy to find and are probably already in your cupboard/fridge. If you're looking for really tasty food, that people will devour and rave about, this is the book to get. This isn't the book to buy if you're looking for low fat, low calorie, dairy free, and/or health conscience recipes that will help you lose weight.
