Title: It works! needs improvement.
Review: My initial reaction to the Tablo Gen4 4 Tuner upon initial setup was "glad I got this from Amazon the return will be easy". Reason was this device does a pretty good job of scanning channels. I had my antenna set to my #1 direction which I commonly use and it scanned in 80 channels. Most of these channels are 100 miles away and picked-up on a $300 channelmaster antenna. Problem is when I turned my antenna to my secondary direction and did a rescan the Tablo deleted all of my previous channels and scanned in about 45 more channels of which some were not in the previous scan but now all of the other channels from the previous scan are gone. I have been using two HDMI connected boxes on my two tv's that keep all previous channels and allow me to add more channels using the stations digital address. So the Tablo being unable to handle OTA channels properly is a deal breaker. However my objective to get rid of all of the cable runs was accomplished just fine. I installed the Tablo app on my phone and installed the tablo on my "Onn Roku 4K" tv and all of the channels are very nice. I don't really need all of the free apps that the tablo supplies because I get most of my streaming movies and episodes from Amazon Prime and Freevee. However more doesn't hurt.My other tv which is a 50" Hisense Xumo tv is a piece of crap and doesn't have the option to install the Tablo App. I have used a HDMI Box for channel tuning and also a HDMI Roku Express for streaming. So I installed the Tablo app on the Roku. Problem is the Roku Express was too slow to display the OTA channels. The displayed channels would freeze but the audio would continue. Not good. I fixed this problem by buying a $20 Onn.Google.4K Streaming Box. Result is, everything is perfect. I can still use my Roku for my Prime Video and Freevee and the Tablo for OTA and also streaming. And all of this running over my Internet Router.I did have one channel that was pixelating pretty bad with the older tuner boxes and even scanned on the tv's itself, but we watched the channel anyway. This channel because of the poor reception is not compatible with the Tablo just like bad internet is not compatible with the Tablo. I fixed this problem by using my dual channel amp and hooked the tablo to out1 and the tv to out2 and then I had a good OTA signal to the Tablo and also a OTA signal to the tv and am able to watch the one channel on the OTA cable connections.I think the Tablo Gen4 is a keeper because it allows me to get rid of all of the cable connections and runs with the resulting signal drops. It allows me to install a tv anywhere within range of the Internet router just by pluging it into a power outlet. I just have to make sure I am buying a good Roku enabled 4K TV. I can even watch tv on my smart phone which is pretty cool.Regarding the business of the Tablo not saving previous scanned channels. I giving Tablo a free pass on that one since if my antenna is set to the sweet spot I can get 116 channels that all work ok on the Tablo and I can do without the rest. Plus the tablo is loaded with a whole shoebox full of free apps. I will probably never use even a fraction of all of the streaming tv that I have between Roku, Tablo, and Google. Plus I no longer need all of the cable connectors and box full of tools that are needed to make the connections. Hopefully Tablo will get that channel scanning problem fixed at some point. It would be ok if one could add the remaining channels with their digital channel numbers.Just one warning, be prepared to be patient on the setup. It takes time for the Tablo to do a initial firmware update, channel guide scan and setup, etc. The things the the device does for itself is pretty slow. Everything it does reacting to the operation by the user is fast.FYIMy front tv which is a Onn Roku 4k tv I was able to instal Tablo on the tv desktop. Plus I still have a antenna cable connection for my single OTA station that I watch. So I have Live Tv from the cable, Roku from the TV app, and Tablo from the Tablo App and nothing on the HDMI ports. My rear tv which is the Hisense Xumo has Roku Express on HDMI1, Onn.Google.4K on HDMI2 and Tablo on the Onn.Google.4K plus all of the Xumo apps on the tv desktop. Not a bad job there Tablo and Amazon. Thanks

Title: Poor SW, often fails during playback
Review: UpdateBeen using Tablo for over a month now. It will fail during playback and it has been difficult to use and setup recordings. I am an electronics engineer with over 30 years experience. I have evaluated many SW interfaces over the years. I do not consider this on to be reliable enough to capture the programs I want. I had hoped to get out from my $95 Hulu Live subscription with Tablo but it just us not reliable enough.I have been using Tablo for a couple weeks now. I am an electronics engineer with decades of evaluating user interfaces. I have a relatively new Sony Brava tv running Google tv. The Tablo app for this tv has a lot of problems. I really liked the idea of being able to locate the Tablo next to my antenna so I could position for max signal and to have that signal on my WiFi. But I have to use the Tablo app available on my tv. The live tv in the app works perfectly. But the problem is recording shows for later viewing. Very often it does not record the shows I have asked it to. And this is after trying to set up the recording several times. And it does not take much to get the app into trouble. Do anything slightly weird and the app goes away and sometimes it delegates the recording you were watching. And it seems you cannot watch a recording that is in process from the beginning while the recording is in process. Finally, the interface is very unintuitive. I have used and QAed a lot of GUIs, graphic user interfaces, and the one is not very good. Making it hard to use.

Title: I definitely recommend it. It does exactly what I need it to do.
Review: I have had this unit for a few weeks now, and I have decided to keep it! It does what I wanted it to do. I had to find an alternative to my DirecTv. After looking at costs, I chose to use Philo, and TabloTV. Hilo does not have local channels. So that is why I chose Tablo. I think that Tablo is a great product. The only problem with it, is that it is based on reception from an antenna. For everyone, reception will be different. Where I live, I have hung the antenna in my office using 3M Strips. I was able to get around 20 channels via the antenna. However the only channels that are consistent in reception and recordings are the major networks. The rest are hit and miss. However that is really all I was looking for. The price to me and what I save vs cable or satellite is well worth it. Keep in mind I am using Philo as well. The DVR is easy to use and really impressive on my Roku Tv, and really easy to setup. My Samsung Tv cannot find the Tablo, so I am working on that issue. The DVR space is quite adequate and can be increased using an External Drive for about an additional $70.Keep in mind it is an antenna, so reception will not always be great, however with Major Networks, I have had no problems thus far.I do have one request to Tablo. My internet service went down yesterday and my Tablo did not work. So keep that in mind, Tablo does require internet service.I personally believe that it is worth the money, and is a great product. Yes it could use some improvements, however I think everything could use improvement.
