Frequently Asked Questions
What does the center green light mean?
In certain models, the center LED will turn green to indicate the exact center of the stud.
What does the single blinking light mean?
Several of our models now have a low battery indicator. When the battery voltage is low, the second LED from the right will flash. Replace with two brand new batteries.
Why do the LED lights flash when I first press the button?
In certain models, the LED lights will flash when you first press the button to assure you that the unit is on and receiving power.
What batteries can I use?
Not all of our models are compatible with rechargeable batteries. For best results, use two brand new, non-rechargeable, AA or AAA batteries (check instructions for details).
What materials do your stud finders detect through?
Sheetrock/Drywall
Our stud finders work best through a single layer of sheetrock/drywall.
Lath and Plaster
While many customers have reported success using our stud finders through lath and plaster, detection is not guaranteed due to irregularities in plaster thickness.
Incompatible Surfaces
We do not recommend using our stud finders through stucco, exterior siding, double layers of sheetrock/drywall (common in condos, townhomes and home theaters), tile, wood flooring, carpet or roofing.

Title: Franklin Sensors ProSensor M210 Stud Finder: A Game-Changer with One Caveat
Review: The Franklin Sensors ProSensor M210 Stud Finder has earned its reputation as the world's best stud finder, and it's not hard to see why. With its advanced technology and intuitive design, locating studs behind walls has never been easier or more accurate. However, there is one small caveat to consider.Let's start with the positives. The ProSensor M210 utilizes multi-sense technology to detect studs in real-time, providing instant feedback on stud locations with unmatched accuracy. Its wide scanning area and deep sensing capabilities ensure that no stud is missed, even in the most challenging wall configurations. The ergonomic design fits comfortably in the hand, making it easy to maneuver and use, while the LED display provides clear visual indicators of stud locations for quick and precise identification. Whether you're a professional contractor or a DIY enthusiast, this stud finder streamlines the process of hanging shelves, mounting TVs, or any other task that requires locating studs. However, it's worth noting that while the ProSensor M210 excels at detecting wooden studs, its performance with high voltage wires may not be as reliable. While it's generally accurate in avoiding live electrical wires, there have been occasional instances where users have reported inconsistencies in detection. As such, it's wise to exercise caution and verify electrical wiring with additional tools when necessary. In conclusion, the Franklin Sensors ProSensor M210 Stud Finder sets the bar high for stud detection technology, offering unparalleled accuracy and ease of use. While its performance with high voltage wires may not be perfect, its overall reliability and effectiveness make it a must-have tool for any toolkit. Five stars for its game-changing capabilities and exceptional design.

Title: Works as advertised.
Review: Being a DIYer, this appeared to be a bit spendy for an item that one may use only occasionally. But it is well worth the cost.Solid, quality build. Each stud was easy to find and existing wiring was also easily detectible. And this was done through old plaster walls. It was actually fun to use.The instruction manual was well written.

Title: Accurate and Precise. Only works with alkaline or fully-charged rechargeable batteries.
Review: I own an older model of Franklin Sensors' stud finder, and I bought this newer model to increase the precision of my stud detection. The newer model has more LEDs with reduced spacing between LEDs, which makes it easier to identify the exact center of your studs. The new model appears to be very accurate and precise. I also appreciate the small bubble-level, which helps you keep the tool horizontal during usage, further improving the accuracy.I'm just giving it 4 stars not 5 for 2 reasons:1) The older+cheaper stud finder from Franklin Sensors seems to function fine with NiMH rechargeable AA batteries that are charged > 1.3 volts. This means that if your AA batteries are charged half-way, the older model will work fine. The newer model doesn't light up unless the AA batteries are >= 1.4 volts (maybe 1.35... maybe 1.38... I don't know exactly). The NOMINAL voltage of NiMH rechargeable AA batteries is 1.2 volts. In practice, high-quality AA NiMH rechargeable batteries (Sanyo Eneloop, Amazon Basics, etc) can reach a voltage slightly above 1.4 volts when they're fully charged. At 90% charge, the voltage generally drops somewhere between 1.3 and 1.4. I've used this stud finder with freshly-charged high-quality NiMH AA batteries, and it works great. On one project, I then tried to use it again the next day with those batteries after maybe just 20 minutes of usage the prior day, and it wouldn't turn on. After I recharged my batteries to 100%, it continued to work.Alkaline AA batteries have a nominal voltage of 1.5V. I don't like to use disposable batteries because I find them to be wasteful. I have lots of devices that will function fine with rechargeable batteries that have a voltage > 1.2V or 1.3V. It's unfortunate that this stud finder can only work with batteries charged > 90%. For me, it just means that I have to fully charge a pair of batteries before I use the tool. Since I know this, it's OK, but it's inconvenient. I think I would still use the new one that requires fully-recharged batteries (>90%) over the older one that will work fine with moderately-charged batteries (>50%) since the new one is more precise and has the convenient integrated level. Still, Franklin Sensors could have added a voltage regulator circuit to this tool that would have allowed it to operate totally fine with batteries >1.3V, which would have made it much more convenient to use. If you're a professional remodeler who needs to find a lot of studs over the course of an entire day, you probably need to bring a spare pair of AA rechargeable batteries plus a charger to your job site and possibly recharge and swap the batteries at least once per day to use this tool.2) They really could have done a better job designing the cover for the battery compartment. It's actually better on this model than the older model, but neither are great. It's cumbersome to open the battery compartment, and, over time, the cover can get loose while you're using the tool. They could have designed the cover with a simple hinge and thumbscrew or some other locking mechanism that would be less prone to loosening over time. It's still a great tool. Despite the shortcomings, it's still the best stud finder that I've ever used. I mounted some slat walls and shelf brackets in a storage closet in my house, and I was able to easily find the center point of the studs behind my drywall with this stud finder.

Title: What a stud finder should be
Review: It takes a second to find the stud, unlike all the others I've used. No more repeated sliding a stud finder back and forth, waiting for one red light to light up, and then having to make a best guess due to a lack of precision. This thing is precise. It is accurate. It is easy to use. It saves me a lot of time and frustration when I have to nail something onto the wall. Whoever thought of this design deserves to be rich.

Title: Easy to use, versatile, and functional
Review: This is my favorite. It is so easy to use and read. It is easy to get a hard case to protect the device and keep batteries handy so they dont leak inside the unit.I love the design and now this model has the live wire readout, albeit a little obstructed behind your fingers but still functional. The live wire seems easier than other models I own so this remains my go-to.

Title: Best stud finder I have ever had
Review: This is a very good stud finder. I really like that the sensor enables the user to find the center of the stud immediately instead of going back and forth. I have plaster and lathe walls which made my other sensors somewhat eradicate, but this Franklin sensor worked like a charm.

Review: The Franklin Sensors ProSensor M210 is hands down one of the most accurate stud finders Iâve used. The 13 sensors ensure precise detection, and it quickly identifies studs over a wide area, giving you reliable readings every time. Thereâs no calibration needed, which saves time, and itâs incredibly user-friendly. However, the device is a bit bulkier than I expected, which can make it harder to use in tight spaces. Despite that, itâs a great tool for professionals and DIY enthusiasts who need accurate stud detection. Highly recommended for its performance and ease of use!

Review: I spotted this on a YouTube video where a guy was fitting a kitchen. The speed and effectiveness were plain to see and clearly not staged. So I thought, try it and see (the one distinct advantage on Amazon - if it's not as described, send it back). This is staying! I took it my test wall, where I know studs are already in one part of the property, and when I came to locate other studs in other walls, the results were 100% positive every time. No relying on magnets to go screw-finding or potentially drilling hidden copper pipes or electric points. Sorted!Would you recommend this? To tradesmen and DIY enthusiasts, 100% yes.Value for money? In terms of saving time and not getting false positives, most definitely..

Review: When it comes to stud finders I've used them all with varying degrees of success and accuracy. This one though is a game changer. The design is simple and straightforward and works exactly as it is supposed to! The accuracy is unmatched, it takes all the guess work out of finding studs even on thick plaster walls which makes this tool worth every penny! I wish I would have purchased it sooner!
