To know the Sweet Potato Queens is to love them, and if you haven't heard about them yet, you will. Since the early 1980s, this group of belles gone bad has been the toast of Jackson, Mississippi, with their glorious annual appearance in the St. Patrick's Day parade. In The Sweet Potato Queens' Book of Love, their royal ringleader, Jill Conner Browne, introduces the Queens to the world with this sly, hilarious manifesto about love, life, men, and the importance of being prepared. Chapters include:

• The True Magic Words Guaranteed to Get Any Man to Do Your Bidding
• The Five Men You Must Have in Your Life at All Times
• Men Who May Need Killing, Quite Frankly
• What to Eat When Tragedy Strikes, or Just for Entertainment
• The Best Advice Ever Given in the Entire History of the World

From tales of the infamous Sweet Potato Queens' Promise to the joys of Chocolate Stuff and Fat Mama's Knock You Naked Margaritas, this irreverent, shamelessly funny book is the gen-u-wine article.

Title: Amazing feel good book that will have you laughing out loud!
Review: I absolutely loved this book! I have shared it with two of my girl friends and they also loved it. It is a very quick read. I literally laughed out loud while reading some of the parts. The author uses a collection of personal stories to emphasize the importance of female friendships.

Title: The Sweet Potato Queens Reign Supreme!
Review: Although I myself am a southern belle, born and raised in Atlanta, Ga. I had never heard about the elusive Sweet Potato Queens until I happened upon this book. What a find it was! I can't remember the last time I giggled/laughed out loud so much at a book. The life, love, and food advice given by the leader of the Mississippi Sweet Potato Queens in this tell all book are hilarious if not dead on. I kept imagining the queens walking around in trashy lingerie and cooking up a storm, all the while being intelligent, happy, and well, Queenly. You get the sense that the author truly knows how to live life to the fullest & she's trying to pass that on through her excellent writing skills. This tome will make you want to liven up your life; or at least whip up one of the heavenly recipes provided. The Sweet Potato Queens Book of Love is truly a joy to read. Pick one up today; you won't be sorry 🙂

Title: Sweet Potato Queens Keep Life Sweet
Review: The Sweet Potato Queens have discovered the secret to happiness; life is what you make of it, and each of these fallen Southern Belles has decided to make life a riot, a romp, a long, involved, and perfectly executed practical joke, a reason for joy. Even while facing the variety of idiots and jerks and creeps (as well as indigenous critters) we come across in this world, the Sweet Potato Queens handle every dilemma with aplomb, humor, and sisterhood. They are also (thank God!) cheerfully addicted to bad food, good drinks, trashy lingerie, practical jokes, and watching beauty pageants with the supreme satisfaction of goddesses who know that the best crown is the one you give yourself, and it's yours for life. They are convinced of their own sovereignty, and what's more, they will convince you of yours. This book relates the history of the SPQs and then swings into a profoundly funny trove of advice and anecdotes. There are also recipes not to be found in any Junior League Cookbook and stories that you must not read while drinking a soda, lest cola come out of your nose from hysterical laughter. When reading this book for the first time, read it with a good friend close by; this is a book so funny is BEGS to be shared, and shared immediately, with someone who will laugh with you.As long as your girlfriends (or, in certain cases, your boyfriends) have a sense of humor, you will always have the perfect gift for them in this book. I myself keep having to buy new copies because I keep giving them away. When I reach for this book, as I have time and again, both in blue times and in silly ones, I know for sure I'm going to come away all perked up, grinning and blushing. Life is wonderful, and we can make it up to be so; the SPQs show you how to follow their example with the sassy and wise enthusiasm that is the trademark of a group of women who have declared themselves bona fide goddesses and are having a complete blast with the world at large.Mix you up some Fat Mama's Knock You Naked Margaritas (the SPQs tell you how to make them) put on some trashy lingerie (they tell you the best place to get it) and invite your girlfriends over and read this book aloud to each other. Put this book on your list of things you must read this year, and put it on your Christmas List for all your gal pals as well.

Title: Fun and quick
Review: This book is an entertaining window into the lives of the Sweet Potato Queens. It is very short, so it's good for a quick read. It wasn't my cup of tea, however. Once the author argued that women could solve anything by offerring blow jobs... I was out. To infer that our most valuable contributions are sexual favors is insulting. Yes, I know it was meant to be a joke. The entire book was supposed to be funny. But it primarily revolved around heteronormative, stereotypical gender roles. At best, this is unimaginative. I love her unrelenting pursuit of joy, but I don't agree with her limiting (and at times, boring) anecdotes.

Title: Wonderful!
Review: I've probably bought two dozen copies of this book to give to friends. Admittedly, it feels a bit dated these days, but it's still hilarious. The last couple of copies I've bought have gone to friends to read during their hospital stays. The chapters are short; good for picking up and reading when you have a minute, and did I mention they're hilarious? This book isn't for the prudish or for those sensitive to sexual innuendo, but it still cracks me up all these years and rereadings later. I quote "The five men" quite a bit. Highly recommended if you want a good laugh.

Review: This book is a true education in itself! I had no idea of some of the womanly ways of these fantastic Sweet Potato Queens! I finished the book with a part of me secretly wanting to be one myself LOL! Very entertaining but with a lot of wisdom woven in. I think every woman should read this (but not every man as they'll learn the secrets!) It is a lot of fun and quite outrageous at times! I found myself saying "You'd not get away with saying that these days!" quite a lot so I think I'm showing my age, but it was very refreshing to read something so frank. Did I say it was funny? I really, really laughed. Definitely worth a read!

Customers say

Customers find the book funny, interesting, and entertaining. They describe it as an easy, light read with good solid advice. Readers also appreciate the great recipes and sturdiness of the book. However, some find the plot boring, crude, and lacking a plot. Opinions are mixed on the value for money, with some finding it worth the entire price, while others say it's strictly light fare.
