Title: Thermostat upgrade
Review: Old thermostat does not work for heater. Ordered and replaced with this one, install is easy, but 4-wire model does not connect to wifi continuously and some functionality disabled. Followed Google install instructions, ordered a nest power adapter for FREE (and order a trim kit - not free). Reinstalled everything, and deleted device from Google Home and re-added device - everything works great. It can sense when you are close and turn on display (hide display normally), and also auto sensing everyone away from home and turn into low-energy away mode. Should have upgrade to modern life style earlier!

Title: It works and was a great price with utility rebate
Review: I bought this when it went on sale and also discovered that PG&E offers a $50 rebate. This made it a no brainer to replace the lousy Honeywell thermostat I've been wanting to replace for a while. It's works good, was easy to install, and does a better job than the Honeywell it replaced. No issues with WiFi connection or app servers being flaky or down. I like that it also has trends showing how long it runs during each day, a nice addition would be temperature and humidity trends too. Some things to be aware of:1. Google owns Nest, so this "Nest" thermostat will only work with the Google Home app and not the Nest app. I have another Nest device that only works on the Nest app. It is annoying as I would prefer they work in either one app or the other or have the option to move both into one app, but it's not world ending. I found the Home app to be just fine, but a couple of things like where to access and edit the schedules could be more intuitive.2. You can remove your existing thermostat, note the way it is wired, and check to make sure this is compatible with what you have on their website before you buy it.3. This will only support 2-stage heat OR 2-stage cooling, not both. If your system has both this isn't going to provide you with ideal results and I suggest buying something else.4. The installation manual is using the Home app to scan the QR code on the thermostat. It does a decent job stepping through the installation process and will even connect the thermostat to your WiFi for you. However I did run into an issue with the wiring diagram it provided with my 2-stage gas heating, I answered "yes" to "does your thermostat have two sets of labels" or something along those words, and it mismatched the labeling on the 2-stage heat wire. I went back to the question and said "no" and the wire label was then correct. This was more of an annoyance to me, but I could see this potentially causing unnecessary headaches for someone unfamiliar with thermostat wiring.5. Make sure you have the C-wire, or if you don't have it get the C-wire adapter kit they offer. From some of the reviews if you don't you're going to have a bad time. Mine has the C-wire as most newer HVAC units do so wasn't a concern for me.6. It was actually very easy to add other household members in to allow them access to the thermostat in the Home app and have it track if they are home or not for it to automatically go into Eco Mode if it detects everyone is gone. I haven't yet enabled this feature so I can't say how well it works yet.

Title: Yes, you will probably need a C-Wire.
Review: Look, most of the bad reviews on here are people who can't use or navigate the home app. They don't know how to use the app or google instructions on programming. After installation, it told me I needed a c-wire, not enough power from my existing 4 wire. It took some time, but I was able to fish out the c-wire from behind the wall that hadn't been stripped or placed in the hole with the other wires. I got lucky that it was installed on the board just wish the AC installer had made it easily accessible. Once I hooked that up, it took a few minutes of research and I was able to program through the home app quickly and it runs perfect. Already saving money in the first week.Google instruction for setting comfort, eco, sleep or create your own. Once these are set you can set the routine for everyday of the week and have it sense when you are home and near the tstat. You can adjust what the temps are for each mode (eco for example), you don't have to leave it at 82 as one reviewer who was clueless on how to adjust it or change settings.Yes, you have to use the Google Home app. Duh! Its a smart device. The whole purpose of all smart devices is the ability to access them everywhere to program and control them. The instructions are online! It's no that hard people. No, it is not 60% of a standard rough opening for a thermostat. Lazy installers. Buy the trim plate! It solves that problem.Common problems you see in reviews are they wired it incorrectly. Identified their heating system incorrectly, or failed to use Home app correctly. Also, they are using older phones, not the newest version of Home app, or have terrible wifi. Your home app shouldn't be unresponsive. That's a software issue with phone or wifi issue. This thermostat works brilliantly if you take the time to set it up properly and how to use the app. Google is your friend when you have a question.

Review: I like that I can give my tenants a couple degrees control with the parent trap setting. easy to install, but i'm a quick learn, quoted a new furnace with an HVAC guy and he rolled his eyes at the google nest, wanted to give me an ecobee AFTER I had installed this. its perfectly compatible with any heating or cooling configuration, heat pumps, AC, Furnace and No AC, its fine, its super smart.

Review: Really disappointed. I was expecting it to be an easy install, my current thermostat has 2 wires. First I had to modify those wires as Google Nest's don't support stranded wires, easy enough, but another cost and muck around. Then once I did that the current on the active wire wasn't enough to power the thermostat and gave an error. Turns out I need a separate common wire to run this. I can either do that myself with an ugly power supply under the thermostat as amazon have no Nest models for Australia. Or I can pay an HVAC trade person to come and wire an c wire from my boiler (who knows what that will cost). Buyer beware, feel cheated. And all Amazon can offer is I return and pay the delivery fee back to the US.

Review: Installation was easy. Worked great for awhile, BUT even thought it states that a C wire is not needed, I have to get the adaptor for this product. It losses power and connection at different time throughout the day. Have the adaptor coming and hope that it will fix my problem. Otherwise I like the connectivity of the thermostat.

Review: Bought it with Amazon installation service. New Era Maintenance came and inspect and confirmed it is not a direct plug and play. Had to buy an adaptor from them that cost AED 1000 each. 5 hours into installtion, they discouvered outside unit has DC inverter not AC. anyway, it was a failed attempt and had to return it.Edit: after 10 days. New Era Maintainace hasn't refunded and doesn't reply.
