There are many true things about you—true things you use to build an identity. Parent. Introvert. Victim. Student. Extrovert. Entrepreneur. Single.

These truths can identify you, your successes and failures, your expectations and disappointments, your secret dreams and hidden shames. But what if your true identity isn't found in any of these smaller truths, but in the grand truth of who God says you are? In other words, lots of things are true about you—but are they the truest?

David Lomas invites you to discover and live out the truth of who God created you to be: you are loved, you are accepted, and you are made in God's image. It's time to move beyond the lesser voices and discover why everything changes when you become who you really are.

Title: So important for all Christians to read!
Review: I love the premise of the book. A great reminder of where our identity is truly found— not in what we do or our talents but rather in Christ. Content is great.

Title: The Book You've Been Looking For
Review: An invitation into the story of who you are, who you really are, is what this book is. With pastoral affection and care, Dave brings you into a conversation you never knew you wanted to have. But once you've begun the conversation, you realize its one you've been looking for all your life. The sermon series that inspired this book changed my life, which seems funny to say as I grew up in the church. For the first time, I was swept up into the story of God. This in not a comprehensive work on identity, it sets the theology of who we are as the baseline but moves deeper into the workings of the heart and how we live as a result. Engaging and inspiring, this is a quick read well worth the time and money. This book has something to offer to new and seasoned believers alike.

Title: A timely and comprehensive examination of Identity
Review: 'The Truest Thing About You' is just about one of the most boldest titles you could come up with. The book does not disappoint in living up to its title. David Lomas carefully attends to the complexity and nuances of identity formation while whimsically proclaiming how the Gospel and our identity intertwine.Throughout the book Lomas examines how we often tend to build our identities around things that are unstable and more importantly things that are merely true to who we are.In examining how we build our identities around our desires Lomas addresses human sexuality with tremendous care and compassion. Lomas is honest, straightforward, but his vulnerability is incredibly disarming.Lomas beautifully presents the Truth of the Gospel as being foundational for understanding our identity. He does not present the Gospel in a trite canned form or through using high theological terms. He wonderfully intersects how we see our identity with who we are in Christ. And this makes his appeal very compelling. The truth that Christ is our life is not an easy truth to accept and certainly not a truth easily lived out. Lomas does not skirt this point. He does an excellent job addressing the struggle we often feel in living out our faith. Lomas clarifies how we should understand this truth through reframing our understanding of scripture. So often we see scripture as being a list of imperatives and this often bogs people down. Lomas corrects this understanding of scripture in addressing that our identity in Christ is indicative to who we are. And Lomas argues that this radically changes how we live out this truth and how we ultimately see our relationship with God.This is a comprehensive and timely book--it is simple and yet deep. Lomas does not present a new perspective for understanding our identity but rather presents to us as a reminder of the Gospel in a fresh and whimsical way disarming any defenses we may feel in examining our identity. This is a book worthy of reading and rereading.

Title: The Identity that Overrides All Others
Review: The Truest Thing About You by David Lomas is a book that looks at identity and seeks to show people where their identity can most accurately be found. The book starts with some assumptions. These assumptions are that we have many names or titles for ourselves, identities that we claim for ourselves. Some we're proud of; others we're ashamed of. But we assume that these are the things that define us. The problem for most people is that our identities are where we find value. And that value is usually placed upon us by those who accept and embrace our identity. But if we can't muster up an identity that brings value, then we're hopelessly lost.Lomas shatters this problem by drawing us into the pages of Scripture to show us where our identities should be found. He says that all of the identities that we claim for ourselves might be true, but there is an identity that is truer. It's an identity that overrides and sometimes cancels out all the others. The Truest Thing About You is an exploration of God's love for us in creating us and his pursuit of us to shape us into the beautiful images he created us to be. It's about facing our brokenness and finding wholeness in relationship with Jesus. Lomas writes with passion and transparency, which makes this an encouraging read and a joyful one because of the message it proclaims. For anyone struggling with issues of identity, this is a worthwhile book.Review copy provided by David C. Cook

Title: So very true
Review: Let me start off with saying….don't read this on public transit. I'm pretty sure there have been some confused strangers watching me either cry or mumble, "oh man…so true." I have been a member of the Reality family for about 7 years now and was a part of the prayer tour launching Reality SF. Dave is someone anointed by the Lord. He is a solid Bible teacher but his humility is what brings it home. He speaks truth not only to you but also to himself; He's in it too. This book has changed how I even think about my own identity and what I am allowing my identity to be shaped by. I come from a family of abuse and through this book saw many ways that I allowed those abuses to continue to define me even though I thought they weren't. I also saw how I allowed my past abuses to shape how I thought God defined me. The point that really opened my eyes was when Dave explained that the Bible always starts with an indicative (who you are) before stating an imperative (what you should do). We are to live out who we are. A must read!

Review: Well written book, easy to read but so full of truth. Highlighted so many sections which resonated with me. A 'take' on identity which I will think about and reflect on long after the last page has been turned. Definitely recommend.
