Title: A Great Resource for Low-Carb and Keto Eaters
Review: If you are trying to eat cleaner, incorporate more vegetables and seeds, and avoid gluten, this is an excellent cookbook. I wasn't familiar with Hyman's other book, but I'm definitely going to be reading it. I've been managing diabetes with diet and exercise for more than a decade, and I have a feeling that the recipes here will add new spark to my menus.I've tried three recipes so far, and all were relatively easy, if a bit time-consuming as far as measuring ingredients was concerned. The Flourless Protein Power Bread was easy to put together and made an excellent addition to my morning breakfast. (If you're not dairy-free, it's superb toasted and spread with a thin layer of cream cheese and a sprinkle of cinnamon.) It's very hearty, and even a thin slice makes a filling snack. The Savory Seed Crackers were a gloriously sticky mess to make, but every baker occasionally enjoys mucking about in a pan of sticky goo. They were definitely worth the time and trouble, and I suspect these will become a staple in my house. As will be Blushing Beet Dip. It's a beautiful, brilliant magenta colour and tastes mostly of sesame (because it's got a good bit of tahini in it), and it's a lovely accompaniment to the crackers. It was quite easy to make and very tasty. The only drawback would be the number of unusual ingredients. I live in a large city, so access to raw nuts and seeds, miso paste, and other esoteric ingredients isn't a challenge for me. But I can see it being an issue for someone in a less diverse location ... though I suppose there's always Amazon if you can't find it locally.

Title: great book
Review: I just received this cookbook and threw out a lot of what was in my kitchen. I don't particularly like to cook anymore (I am a 70 yr old widow), but I also sent my son and his wife this book. She is a professional chef but I think they will both learn a great deal from this book. I know one thing for sure, the key to any foodstuff is to READ THE INGREDIENTS. I am not overweight but I have been through many traumas in my life, including losing my 2 youngest sons. Ergo, my cortisol levels due to trauma are high and I am going to check these recipes out to see if that helps me calm down. I wish I had read this cookbook when I was younger. While I have no health problems, except for PTSD caused by grief, I am curious as to how well the proper diet will help me cope each day. I like to eat simply, and I literally will eat an avocado straight out of the shell. I also realize that sugar is an addictive drug and how it sends me into a spiral if I eat it. I bought cashew butter the other day and threw it out later because it was made with palm oil. Again, READ THE INGREDIENTS. I will completely eliminate sugar and all processed grains and stick to mostly vegetables that I will cook along with eggs and use avocado oil. As I said, I like to eat simply so I will have no problem eating salmon with bones straight out of the can. I notice I don't eat as much anyway as an older woman. I DO notice that if I eat sugar it sets me off and I feel horrible an hour later. I love the substitutes in this book and I will hit the grocery store tomorrow with a new list. This book says a lot about food being medicine, and I intend to use it. Thanks, Dr. Hyman.

Title: Tasty, realistic, helpful & beautifully laid out!
Review: Finally a cookbook I can work my way all the way through. Thanks Dr. Hyman! I have been following Functional & Integrative Health Practitioners for nearly 10 years, and most get you spun up in their hype and have programs and recipes too complicated and/or weird to follow. I'm proud to say that the 1st recipe from this cookbook I made was with canned sardines. And why did I have these in my pantry? Because it is a practical tip I had learned from Dr. Mark Hyman previously, for free. No, I did not pay $299 for any "act now before it's too late gimmicks", Dr. Hyman is the real deal. Sincere, practical, and best of all - human, like me! Great cookbook here - one I also learned a lot of practical cooking tips from. Balanced, wholesome, tasty, a do-able. Yay! Sincerely, Edie

Title: Great info
Review: This is a great book. I disagree, however, with the idea of no dairy. I think raw dairy can be hugely beneficial to some folks. Iâm also not a fan of raw kale in salads. There are anti-nutrients that are not good for us.My favorite part of the book is the introduction! I wish the government would get on board with what you are saying. This whole food subsidy and health care crisis is such a crime. We should be subsidizing regenerative farmers and ranchers producing good protein and vegetables while they sequester carbon in their soil!!! Itâs a mess! All these candidates talking about free health care is a joke. We need to be talking preventive health care!!! Give all our citizens your book!!!

Title: "Food is Medicine" - this cookbook helps!
Review: After reading Dr. Hyman's Food: What the Heck Should I Eat a couple months ago, I think the immediate thought in my head was "great! Now what the heck should I cook?" Hilariously, I received an email not less than a month later and counted down the days until I received it.Got it yesterday and skimmed through most of the recipes with my husband. My husband is a notoriously picky eater, but even he gave nods of approval for certain dishes that I'm excited to try. For those who really want to get down to business about eating healthier and feeling better - this is the book to get. I will say that some of these recipes appear fairly radical and if you're used to conventional unhealthy ingredients (like I totally am) it's definitely going to be a challenge. Luckily, I have no children and a husband who is at least willing to try things before he ignores them completely, so this cookbook will prove useful; however, I'd say for those who have very picky eaters in their household this may not be entirely helpful. Also, you'll be using ingredients like cassava flour, pepitas, millet, cacao nibs and more which necessitate a nearby natural grocer or an online account with a natural/special foods site, so keep that in mind before you buy. That said, as Dr. Hyman says, "food is medicine" and simply engaging with this cookbook to see what works and what doesn't is an important first step to building the best pharmacy for yourself and your family.

Muss man Prioritäten setzen.

Review: As a food lover, i have always been open to try new foods. I've always wanted to know what categories and foods are best to eat for good health. There is just so much info out there. After listening to some of the recorded radio shows on The Doctor's Farmacy podcast, i was gobsmacked to learn how sinister the food industry and big food corporations are using sugar and grains and corrupting scientific studies and promoting their products to get our hard earned money. Dr. Mark Hyman, M.D. the functional health doctor peels back the layers of the onion and his motto of "food is healing" over all cultures is what has led me to buying this book. This book has low GI (glycemic index) recipes that you cook from scratch. It is for Pegans, Vegans, Paleo, Gluten-free and Dairy-free and contains recipes from different cultures. What's very important is that it tells to how to store your ingredients and spices in regards to their form and what quantities (and even shows you how asians buy butter in bulk when its on offer from the supermarket and turn it into ghee by sieving the lassi out for longer life and cost effectiveness). I recommend this book to anyone that is serious about their quality of life, their diet, health, and longevity.
