Cara Pembroke lives comfortably. She goes to the best restaurants, lives in a plush apartment in Chicago and has just about all the best things in life. The only thing she’s missing is that special someone. While on assignment as a reporter, Cara meets a woman who makes her question what a good life is.

Morgan Gavin, who lives a simple life on Lake Kabetogama, has her own idea of the best things in life, and they aren’t the same as Cara’s. Nevertheless, Morgan and Cara have chemistry that’s about to force them to re-examine just what the best things in life actually are.

And where in the hell is Lake Kabetogama? You’re about to find out in Kate Sweeney’s latest romantic comedy.

Title: The best things in life..indeed.
Review: Sweeney’s 2019 book is wonderfully sweet, funny, and entertaining. A Chicago newspaper reporter is sent to northern Minnesota to write a human interest story about a pilot who saved the life of an employee of her paper. Sweeney is an old pro at this romantic comedy thing. I recommend this read, she didn’t use one bad word or names of lady parts in the whole book, and it was a great story with ample sexual tension anyway. The Mother might get on your nerves a little and suspension of disbelief is required but that’s the case in most stories.

Title: Wonderful story
Review: Kate never disappoints with her stories. She has this remarkable talent of making her characters so damned lovable that you want to hope on plane and meet them. I love how she gives secondary characters as much thought as the main. Her stories are endearing and romantic with a wicked sense of humor that is uniquely Kate. Loved it. Looking forward to more from Kate.

Title: Stalin was a Marxist
Review: First chapter promotes socialism, i stopped at that and returned this book. Wish people were actually educated and LGBT would stop being brainwashed.

Review: Another superbly engaging story from Kate Sweeney – 5 StarsCara Pembroke, a Chicago based journalist, travels to the shores of Lake Kabetogama to interview local hero, Morgan Gavin. In short order, Cara discovers the hero is actually a heroine, and a very attractive one at that. Morgan loves the rural life and is quite possibly falling in love with city-dwelling Cara. The problem, Morgan believes, is they are separated not only by the geographical distance, but by their very different lifestyles. Oh, and then there’s the ‘minor’ issue that Cara already has a girlfriend! The characters in this book are wonderful and the interplay between them gave rise to many humorous moments. Very quickly, I found myself rooting for Morgan, laughing at the match-making antics of Morgan’s mother, and wanting to shake some sense in to Cara. I also loved the setting for this book; Kabetogama comes alive as the sort of place I could happily go to for a fortnight’s holiday and six months later still find myself there. There are times when only the sweetest of romances will do, and this one was just about perfect. Yes, it’s sappy, and yes, you’re really in no doubt that it will all work out in the end, but it was a great read that wound its way through faux-pas, misunderstandings and the scheming of Cara and Morgan’s friends and family, before reaching the happy-ever-after. I’d definitely add curling up with a Kate Sweeney romance to my personal list of life’s best things.

Title:
Review: So I like this author, and I liked the premise, the writing itself is good. But some of the story was just a little too far fetched for me at times. It was like reading a book on fast forward at how quickly some of it developed. So it’s an ok read but left me a little underwhelmed
