Title: Best Nutrition and Diet Book for Runners
Review: I bought this book and the Nancy Clark nutrition book. I found this book to be much more useful for me as a runner. About 90% of what is in Nancy Clark's book is stuff you already should know, and it isn't very training specific for any sport. I thought this book was much more useful for athletes. It offers understandable specifics in terms of fueling before and after a run, fueling before and during a race, and discussing the pro's and con's of supplements - including performance drinks. The author also covers protein supplements and strength training. I also like the approach that the author takes towards dieting - which is, don't diet. Instead, the author has a list of healthy eating patterns to change, that will eventually result in weight loss. I've been following this advice, as well as increased my amount of fresh fruit and reducing my grains, and I have been losing a steady 1lb a week while having plenty of energy for training. I wish the book just had a little bit more information about carbo loading, other than that I thought it was really a perfect book for runners and perhaps cyclists.

Title: I'm 67 and don't load up like half or full marathon runners
Review: When you are in high school or college and under 60 years old, the contents have more of a meaning. I'm 67 and don't load up like half or full marathon runners. Like to see a book out that has more for us oldsters that aren't exactly old. I realize all of us are different and have different problems (like worn out knees) but more things to try with food and supplements. I haven't read it in some time and now that I've been getting cortisone injections in my knee, will read it again. It does have lots of info and works well with some of the other books on running. And I don't have a dog to train with like the cover and the cats are sprinters so I'm on my own.

Title: Warning: Very Science-y
Review: Warning: Very Science-y. Really good book. He does list a lot of common knowledge for runners but he tends to go in depth which is very interesting. He often explains certain molecule structures and how it benefits/detriments your health and running. All of his information could be researched but he does it for you in this neat little book. recommended for the beginning to moderate runners who are worried that their nutrition isn't up to par or who doesn't consider nutrition as a part of training. Avid runners (multi-marathon) will prob know a great deal of info already. really easy read as well.

Title: Very Informative
Review: I don't usually write reviews, but I thought that this book was great. Performance Nutrition for Runners covered a lot of very technical material pertaining to fueling my (a runner) body before and after various workouts. I have used some of Fitzgerald's fueling strategies during different high intensity sports as well, since reading his book, and have found them to be very effective.While a lot of "performance" related books seem to push supplements as some kind of "magic pill", Fitzgerald gives a very candid and well thought out review on a very select, and hardly outlandish, few supplements.Over all I thought for having as much information as this book, the price (somewhere under ten dollars) was very acceptable.

Title: Very useful
Review: I found this book to be very useful in more ways than one. It was extremely helpful in educating me on the advantages and disadvantages of the different sports drinks and recovery formulas available to long distance runners. I also found that it motivated me to eat a healthier diet in general. While much of the general dietary information was stuff that I already knew, some of it was not.I have significantly changed the way I eat as a result of reading the book, and I regularly recommend it to friends whether they run or not.

Title: good book, lots of information for newbie
Review: I am enjoying reading this informative book (almost done). Although there is a lot of terminology and science behind why our muscles do what they do before,during and after our run I thought the information was good.I especially like the sections about carbs and when to eat them, why we eat them, etc. I re-read a few chapters on carbs/hydration the night before I ran my first 1/2 marathon and was reminded how important the night before meal and morning of a race meal really is.

Title: A must read running book
Review: A friend my mine recommended me this book when I started training for a marathon last year. I thought the book was going to be about specific foods I have to eat in the morning, afternoon, etc. Instead, the writer helps in guiding you on what kind of choices to make and why. I got to learn about the difference between the GU, sports drinks, and others. I really love this book. My other friends are now training for a half marathon and they always have questions about running, and I feel like I know a lot because of this book.

Title: Not for vegetarians
Review: I gleaned some great information from this book but was absolutely shocked by the author's statements about how being vegetarian is not healthier than being a meat eater.I've been a vegetarian for 25 years and, more recently, eat mostly plant-based. I don't have a dramatic story of how much better I feel as a runner after switching to being vegetarian because I've been eating veg for so long. But I will say that as a relative newcomer to running at age 50, I observe that I recover pretty darned quickly compared to others my age and I feel really good overall.I wish the author would update this book with more relevant information and studies about how a veg diet is much better for athletes than a meat- and dairy-filled diet.For those interested in a healthier diet and lifestyle for athletes, check out Rich Roll's podcast

Review: Written by someone that runs and understands an athletes nutritional needs. I've been running since I was about 11 and have always eaten fairly healthily and so not really take a huge interest in my diet but recently I've found others that I used to beat quite easily beating me. I'm also finding it quite tiring and getting silly little injuries so am trying to learn as much as I can about both exercises to reduce my risk of injury and what and when I should be eating and drinking. I did a basic sports nutrition diploma recently which I think cost a couple of hundred pounds but didn't actually give me any more information (in fact I'd say less) since the course was more general and they only included nutrition that had been scientifically proven which is fine but in this book Matt gives you more specific nutrition tips for athletes and what he has found works some of which has not been scientifically proven.Well worth investing in if you want to be a more serious about your running and results particularly if you are looking to complete a marathon or beat your PB.
