Title: ‘Doyuncaya kadar yedim’ – ‘I ate until I was full’
Review: Once again Lingo Mastery has come to the rescue, allowing us to make Turkish more accessible to a wider population. In the Introductory Note the goal is stated well: ‘Have you ever heard of Turkish being one of the most complicated languages in the world? Well, we’re not going to tell you it isn’t – we’re just offering a fun and efficient way to expand your vocabulary. We believe that learning a language should be associated with the pleasure of rewarding mental activity and the joy of discovering another culture rather than with the stress inherent to endless grammar drills…We know that the Turkish alphabet has given many learners a hard time. We came up with a special way of transcribing words for you – the transcription is free form complicated signs in an Oxford dictionary style. It’s a combination of transliteration and conventional signs for transcription...’After their success teaching Spanish, French, Italian, German, Russian, Chinese, and Japanese, now they turn to teaching Turkish! And it works. To make the Turkish alphabet accessible, transcriptions are provided in the form of transliteration and conventional signs used for transcription. The grammar notes are particularly successful in simplifying the complexities of this language. Example: kisa (adjective) ‘short’ – ‘Kusa bir hikaye yazdum’ = ‘I wrote a short story’. Taking it slowly, step by step with practice, Turkish words become accessible! And one of the very successful features of this book is the depth of discussion about the symbols, grammar, and English phonology of words – a feature that makes this a quality textbook! The technique is solid and the lessons well taught. This is a very fine introduction to Turkish vocabulary that may arise when you visit Turkey or simply conversing and understand the Turkish population here at home. This book is appropriate for all age levels, and a book much needed at this time in our national status! Grady Harp, June 20

Title: Wish it was better planned.
Review: This book is good to know many words and I love the fact they use each word in a sentence BUT it is not alphabetical and the words are all started in Turkish so trying to find what you are looking for is nearly impossible.

Title: Good resource but not quite for beginners
Review: LingoMastery is good about providing language learning materials for a variety of languages and it's great to see Turkish in their collection. This book contains the most common words with example sentences. I have one issue: A lot of the example sentences are too complicated, especially at the beginning. As a result, this serves as a nice frequency dictionary with examples, but it is not so handy if you decide, eg, that you want to work on the twenty most common words: If you're just beginning, you will have nothing like the knowledge required to read the examples. Otherwise, for the price and content this is a great resource to have on your Kindle.

Title: Excellent but not for absolute beginners
Review: Yes, words are provided in order of frequency of use, but the most valuable feature of this book is that the sentences in which they are used reach beyond the most basic vocabulary and grammar, and offer additional learning opportunities. This book is much more useful than I had initially imagined!

Title: A waste of money
Review: I found this book much too hard. If you already speak the language it is great. Otherwise, you will be frustrated.

Review: I speak Turkish and Russian and wanted to order this to teach my kids. It is an excellent companion to the book Turkish Delights. The font is very large and, therefore, today I ordered a similar book by Lingo Mastery for Russian also. Thanks!

Review: I am grateful this lexicon has been given to me for examination. I thought it is very useful for advanced beginners of the language to get very good additionnal examples of vocabulary workds in context, which is a lot better than only isolated word lists. Besides, you are sure to find the most high frequency words listed. A must have for any serious learner.

Review: I have found learning Turkish a real challenge as it has a different alphabet and sentence construction. This book is an excellent introduction to the most common used words and gives examples of them in sentences so that you can see how they are constructed. The Turkish people love to hear you try at using their language so this is a great resource. Highly recommended.
