Review: It's a nice looking book, and the information is well-organized and presented. However it does not seem like much effort was put into the editorial oversight, as there are numerous sloppy mistakes, particularly with the most recent presidents, that can be quite distracting to the informed reader. For example, the George W. Bush entry does not mention the Iraq war at all (though there is reference to the War on Terror). It refers to Sonia Sotomayor being sworn in during his term, when she was an Obama appointee. There is a confusing sentence about Obama that seems to conflate his senate run with his presidential run. There is no reference to Trump's historic second impeachment, and Trump's term is recorded as ending (and Biden's beginning) in 2020, when it was of course January of 2021. The Biden entry likewise contains what feels like a gratuitous reference to Hunter Biden's scandals a very dated reference to allegations of Biden's "inappropriate behavior" towards women. I don't bring up those last two points to defend Biden, just to suggest that they seem to reflect a poor sense of priority for a condensed biography â it would be like if the Jimmy Carter entry suggested two of the most need-to-know facts about his presidency was his wacky brother Billy and the fact that he was once attacked by a rabbit.I think the authors are doing a good service in making a book like this to compete with the internet, so younger children can understand that there are other sources of material out there to consult when it comes to politics and history. I think this book would be a good addition to many classrooms or school libraries â but only if they do a thorough second edit, because it seems the first one wasn't sufficient.
