Title: Great recipes with simple instructions and very informative book
Review: Having several ice cream recipe books and copying recipes off the internet, nothing quite fit my needs like this booklet. It has 58 easy-to-do recipes with familiar ingredients. What I really like about this complete ice cream booklet is 1. Cost is under $5 at Amazon, 2. The recipes make about a gallon of ice cream so fits the canister for old-fashioned hand-crank or electric ice cream freezers--great for families or ice cream lovers--who can ever get enough ice cream? 3. Good information about ingredients and ratios of ingredients. 4. Substitutions for ingredients. 5. Suggestions for how to avoid flops. 6. A brief history of ice cream. 7. Recipes include cooked batter and non-cooked batter. Some flavors are Mexican Spiced Chocolate, Walnut Praline, Chunky Apple Rum, Orange Blossom, Peanut Butter Chip, Amaretto, Two Berry, Rocky Road, Pistachio Nut Pudding, White Licorice, Sweet German Chocolate and Eggnog, 14 different chocolate ice cream recipes and five vanillas, plus recipes for toppings and sauces. Each recipe has been thoroughly researched and tested to insure perfect, rich, creamy ice cream. One does not expect much from a book of this cost, but you get more recipes and information than some of the $20 range books that I have purchased. If you have the smaller quart or 2-quart ice cream makers, the recipes can easily be cut in half or fourths.

Title: What do you expect for under $5
Review: These are real ice cream recipes and the claim that they don't work in "modern" ice cream churners is nonsense. It doesn't have a lot of recipes but modifying them is easy enough once you understand the theory of making ice cream. Otherwise, there is plenty of good and bad ice cream recipes online. Some do call for rennet, which is hard to find but many don't. The recipes I have made are really good.It sounds like most people just want to buy a package of garbage ice cream mix, mix it with cream and toss it in a churner. That is not real ice cream and you might as well just buy the generic "ice cream" at Walmart. It is the same thing.Using a mix is as lame as using a bread machine and thinking you are making something good. This book has recipes that produce real ice cream. What more do you want?

Title: Negative reviews are dumb
Review: This book is amazing! It says OLD FASHIONED guys! This means cooking a raw egg recipe. And BTW, if you want to make amazing ice cream at a cookout or camping, obviously make the base beforehand and pack it with you. I have searched online for old fashioned recipes and have been disappointed with the scanty selection. If you are intelligent and know what old fashioned ice cream is, then you will love this book. As for the one person who would not have bought it if they had seen it in person because it doesn't have bright pretty pictures inside, oh please! Do people not know how to review the actual product? If it was a gift and the person doesn't like it, or its a book without pretty pictures, you still should be reviewing the actual recipes. You can take a star off for no pictures, but shouldn't take one off for someone hating ice cream lol. Oh! And the one complaining about no sorbet! THIS IS AN OLD FASHIONED ICE CREAM BOOK! If you read the description, it was published in 1984. So no, this is true old fashioned ice cream. If you're looking for that, look no further. BTW sorbet just needs fruit/berry puree and a few tablespoons of honey/corn syrup. Ice cream is a little more complicated so yes, I would want a recipe book for that. Especially for ideas and the fact that you can't find a lot of good old fashioned ice cream recipes on the internet these days.

Title: Great pictures and easy-to-follow recipes
Review: I bought this as a companion piece for the ice cream freezer we are giving our daughter and son-in-law for Christmas. I think they will be very pleased with the variety of recipes in the book, as well as the explanations about the origin of ice cream, and why it freezes.

Title: There are no pictures except for on the cover.
Review: The book is filled with great recipe ideas, but I anticipated a book with vibrant colors of these beautiful treats based on the cover image. There are only words and not a single image of the foods. Not a great choice in my opinion. The cover is misleading.

Title: Amazon offers great book for the ice cream addict
Review: Ever since I was a child I have LOVED home made ice cream! I have "family recipes", printed recipes, ones that I have made up myself and some pretty weird concoctions that could not be saved under the best chocolate syrup available! This book was very tempting -- so many flavors under one cover. It is a great read. I have enjoyed it... BUT it did not have a recipe for lemon custard ice cream -- SIGH--.Amazon has become my first line of search. The seller was all I could ask for and I will try them again.

Review: There are some good recipes in here--fruit flavours, vanilla, chocolate, and various others, some new to me (such as Mexican Penuche, for example.) There are interesting tips, such as the fat content that ice-cream needs for success, and things of that sort. Note that these are American recipes, though I did not find that a problem. Owners of ice-cream machines may need to scale down some of the recipes
