Title: Best Cook Book I have ever used.
Review: The Potato Soup recipe and the Spinach Lasagna are two of my favorites. Every recipe is a winner.

Title: Great cookbook
Review: This is the book I used to make my first lasagna. It is such a great recipe. I had lost my copy of the book and this was described accurately. Thank you very much for my favorite cookbook . I will treasure using this for more great recipes.

Title: Buy the newly printed version. 1972 book's binding glue is shot.
Review: My 1972 original copy was falling apart. This is a classic vegetarian cookbook with recipes that are delicious. It was worth it to me to buy a newly printed edition so I get another 40 years out of this book. Just kidding! I am 67 years old. I am going to use my 1972 copy to add my favorite recipes to my 3-ring recipe binder, yet I will use the new cookbook for browsing what to cook. If you do not own this book, it is worth buying the brand new, newly printed copy, because the glue on the original edition binding no longer holds the pages. I often buy used books, but in this case, spend the money for the new one.

Title: Lovely book with excellent recipes
Review: I bought this book in the early 70’s. It was used so much that when it cracked at the spine, I put a rubber band around it and kept going. I finally bought a new copy last year. There is so much that is so very good about this book. The food is wonderful. This book has many of my go to recipes. The introductions to the recipes and menus are so lovely and personal that I feel I know Anna Thomas. I bought it to learn more about vegetarian cooking, but received so much more.

Title: A Classic Vegetarian Cookbook
Review: As another reviewer wrote, my original copy of this cookbook was completely falling apart. It has always been my favorite go to cookbook to prepare elegant dinners for guests who think vegetarian is boring. THE BEST recipe in the book...which is going out on a limb here, as they are all so wonderful, is Russian Vegetable Pie. It brings to an end the notion that Russian food is heavy and poorly seasoned. If you love excellent, exquisite cooking, whether a vegetarian or not, you MUST own this book!

Title: Wonderful Classic now in kindle format!
Review: This was one of my first cook books as a young married lady. I had it in my kitchen for years. Then, one day, I decided I had too many cookbooks on my bookshelves and chose to give it to the library for their book sale. What a mistake! I love her mushroom, potato, wine casserole and needed the book to get the recipe right. So here I am purchasing it again. This time, it’s in kindle format, so I don’t have to keep it on the shelf! I love this book and it is worth it to me to repurchase in a format that I will never lose or give away because of space constraints again!

Title: Not just for Vegans! Great cookbook through Amazon.
Review: I first received my Vegetarian Epicure when my husband and I married in 1976.What a thoughtful and long lasting gift, 34 years and counting!I searched for and bought this book recently for my nephew's birthday who is an avid vegan.Even though I do eat some meat I found this cookbook to be very helpful and a nice relief away from meat lovers cookbooks. The mac & cheese is a family favorite. I use Kassari, Asiago & parmesan in my version.I was amazed at the price range the book was priced at. However I was able to buy one at a very fair price and in pristine condition.

Title: An out-of-print book I searched for forever
Review: I had this book once and lost it somehow. I bought Volume II and never could find Vol. I again. Some booksellers offered to find it for me for upwards of $50, plus commission, and I wouldn't believe this could be true. A friend showed me how to find it on Amazon, and there it was, in various conditions, through various sellers, for various prices. For my beautiful cookbook, I paid the amazing price of one penny, $0.01!!! For a mere shipping charge of $3.99, a total of $4.00 and a two week wait or so, and I have what was described as a "good" condition cookbook. This book is actually in excellent condition. No markings, no torn pages, no rumpled pages, the covers are perfectly intact. Just perfect. I couldn't be happier. Thank you so much. I will certainly do business with you again, and I recommend you to everyone.

Review: I bought this book decades ago when it was first published and for some bizarre reason, when I was moving house two years ago, it got donated along with hundreds of other books to the University women's book sale. Good cause by the way. Any how, here I am in my new home and no cook books at all. This reissue of this incredible book will not leave my kitchen again. I must have made the zucinni quiche a thousand times over the years. My mother used to beg me to make it. Anyway, a good investment for the cook in anyones house, vegetarian or not. This author is a lover of good food. Thanks Anna! I also owned book 2 but the first book will always be my favourite.

Review: My dad was given a copy of this book way back in the early 70s, by his sister who lived in California at the time. Full of colourful dishes made with all kinds of exciting ingredients, many of the recipes quickly became family favourites - the Eggplant Parmigiana deserves a special mention! When I saw that the book was in reprint I had to buy a copy for myself. Although the ingredients are now far more familiar to the British shopper 40 years on, the book is still bursting with wholesome, tasty recipes that will satisfy any meat-eater or non-meat-eater.

Review: Well, it's seven years later than the review below, and it's still true, every word. I find it odd that some of the reviews refer to the flavors as "bland", something that just is not true. Still highly recommended, still in print, and still useful every week.__________________Back when it was first published in the 70s, I got this book in support of my then-vegetarian lifestyle. It became my favorite cookbook (along with V2). I'm no longer a vegetarian, but I still love to cook and eat meatless meals a significant proportion of the time -- and these cookbooks are still with me, and this one (V1) is now in its fourth iteration. The book itself may not last as long as you'd like, but the recipes and the philosophy and the chatty, friendly and personal dialog is as fresh now as it was 30 years ago.Anna Thomas is a successful screenwriter and film-maker (e.g. Frida, El Norte) and has received an Academy Award nomination. She will probably end up being best known for her excellent cookbooks.I have to go now, to make her classic Macaroni and Cheese. Yum.

Review: This was my first ever cookery book back in 1983 and I still love it. The sweetcorn and cheddar cheese chowder is to die for and the nut cake has won huge numbers of fans! I just love the food in this book. I am no great fan of eggs but have never found that a problem. I didn't take to the second book as much as the first. I have used this book regularly for dinner parties as well..I love the way the author talks about the food and her discovery of various recipes..
