Title: Program Issues, Customer Support AWOL
Review: If the product works for you, great. I had problems, and Corel’s “Customer Support” proved not just exasperating but likely damaging, and just possibly responsible for me having to buy a new computer. I’m going to truncate this a lot, because I have spent enough hours on dealing with this issue, but here are the bare bones of the matter (Corel, if you are watching, view tickets numbered 6493710 and 6494927, for which I have complete copies of all of the correspondence). I registered and started using Corel’s Pinnacle Studio Dazzle to edit family home movies and used it for about 10 days without problem. On February 8, 2021, I went to continue my work and was told that there was an update/patch I needed to install. I did so. When I tried to open the program again I received a message that I was not a registered user. I contacted Corel’s Customer Support (CS) chat and was given a long list of things to do that could correct the problem, and was given the option of handing off my computer for one of their techs (I’m keeping all names out of this) to take remote control. I did that. It seemed to be more complicated than they indicated, since it took him 1.5 hours to finally resolve it. Once he was able to get the program open for me, and I had tested the editing features successfully, he left. So far, so good. I used it to edit and tried to export the resulting edited video. The program froze. I shut down, restarted everything, and nothing ever changed. I would click export and get the spinning wheel of death. I wrote to CS right away on the 8th, and again on the 9th, when I was told nobody from that department was available at that moment, but someone would contact me soon. On the 10th I was asked for a screenshot of the error message, which I sent within 15 minutes. On the 11th I heard back from them, asking for me to generate some reports for them, which I did immediately. I did not hear from them that day or the next. I wrote on the 13th, again no response. I wrote on the 16th again, and they said my graphics driver was out of date. I pointed out that there was nothing wrong with the driver when I successfully edited and exported 48 videos prior to the registration error, and suggesting that the rebuild they did to correct that error might be the cause of my current problem. Three days of silence from Corel CS. On the 19th I wrote again (noting that I had spent almost the same number of days trying to get their program fixed, as the number I had been able to use it). On the 22nd CS sent me the SAME LONG LIST of things to do as they had upon hearing of my initial problem. I wrote that that looked like a standard response, not one for somebody who had already been through all of this. I received the same instructions. I told them I was done with them and to close the ticket. After a few more contentless back-and-forths, they closed the ticket on March 2nd. Less than two weeks later, my hard drive crashed. I don’t think that their CS’s messing around with my computer to fix the registration error caused the crash, but the timing is suspicious. However, in trying to clear up the initial problem their software had, it does certainly look like they caused the second problem with the program. The frustration that this caused, and for such a long time, will not be forgotten. Caveat emptor.

Title: Lots of features
Review: This unit fit the bill for my need. wanted to convert some old VHS tapes to DVD and this fit the bill. The software package that comes with this unit has what i think is all the editing features of a much more expensive product.

Title: So maybe like you, I was totally confused
Review: YOU'RE NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO'S BEEN CONFUSED BY THE CONTRADICTORY REVIEWS...AV Capture and processing hardware and software combinations are, evidently, very problematic. Some reviewers praise the quick install and immediate results, and some start blaming software issues, and then hardware issues. This was with all brands, not just Pinnacle. So maybe like you, I was totally confused. Who do I believe?RELYING ON SOMEONE'S KEY COMMENT...There was one reviewer who's comments I couldn't get out of my mind. He praised the Dazzle DVC-100 capture device by saying, and I'll paraphrase; ".....it's (Dazzle) the most robust device, and worth purchasing the package, if only for the device... just toss the software and use freeware..." I think that guy's review became my subliminal message that ultimately drove me back to Amazon and my "clicking on my Prime button to place my order!"WHAT ABOUT THAT "PATCH" FOR WIN 8.1 (?)...My Dazzle arrived this Saturday, December 6th, '14. which is important to know, because evidently the "patch" that many have complained about needing to download for Windows 8.1, well, it's evidently not needed anymore. I say that because after loading my software, doing a cold-reboot, and then trying to load the patch, I got an error message saying that the patch would not be compatible with my system software, or something along those lines. I bypassed the upload, and went directly to using the Capture Device and the stock software.BOTTOM LINE, IT DID WHAT I NEEDED, AND THE AUDIO WAS SYNCED WITH THE VIDEO...1. I set up my Circa 1990's Kyocera/Sony Video8 tape camera-recorder-playback system.2. Played back a Video8 tape (circa 1990's and monophonic audio) into the Dazzle capture device.3. Started the software, which took a while to load for the first time.4. Intuitively figured out that I was going to "Import" from the Capture device.5. Started the playback and saw preview video in the program window; clicked on "Start Capture."6. Let the program and the playback unit run for the next hour and a few minutes.7. When the tape had played out, I clicked on "Stop Capture."8. "Stop Capture" started an "auto save" to the default VIDEOS folder in Windows.9. Once saved to the default folder, I did a copy and paste to my photo album.Bottom line, the copied tape came out great as an MPG, and I then used Window to burn that one hour file (a little over 3 gigs) onto a DVD disk.I WANTED TO QUICKLY AND EASILY ARCHIVE SOME OLD VIDEO TAPES, AND IT WORKED...Based on my expectations, this package did exactly what I wanted. I've since recorded to my computer from my Video8 and VHS systems. I'm not concerned about "producing" any videos right now. But if I do, I'll be able to pick from a number of programs. Had I used the editing function, and enjoyed the same success as with the basic function of transferring analog to digital files, I'd have given Pinnacle-Corel a 5 out of 5. Based on my early success, I'm comfortable giving the 4 out of 5 stars.

Title: Pinnacle Studio: Error "Registration Not Successful" Or Error Code 1011
Review: The initial install (Windows11) went OK. My first attempt to digitize a VHS tape was pretty bad. Jerky, jumpy video. I only used the RCA cable so I order an S-video cable. Software asked to be updated before my second attempt. So I allowed to update which then gave me the Pinnacle Studio: Error "Registration Not Successful" Or Error Code 1011. Their recommended fix didn't work. So I have uninstalled it and will now try to reinstall. Waste of about a hour so far, very disappointed. Well the download and reinstall seems to work. So I'll improve my rating a little.

Review: I found out this Pinnacle Dazzle (model name: DVCPTENAM) replaced DVC100 model. But they look identical and do the same. I also own generic Easy Cap device. In comparing between two devices after many vhs transfers to pc. Pinnacle Dazzle is the winner for me. After hours of transfering. Although not perfect. I find the audio is just slightly out of sync comparing Easy Cap device is more out of sync. I found out how correctly sync audio from youtuber.

Review: It has done stellar service in transferring my movies from analog tape to digital hard drive. I’ve yet to check out its editing capabilities. However, one drawback is it is not compatible with Windows 10 OS. A bit on the expensive side though.

Customers say

Customers are satisfied with the transfer speed of the product. However, they mention that the quality is terrible and the software installation is problematic. They also dislike the video quality, saying it's very choppy. Opinions are mixed on the functionality and ease of use.
