From Oscar® and Emmy®-nominated filmmaker Kirby Dick (This Film Is Not Yet Rated; Twist of Faith) comes THE INVISIBLE WAR, a groundbreaking investigative documentary about one of America's most shameful and best-kept secrets: the epidemic of rape within the U.S. military. The film paints a startling picture of the extent of the problem - today, a female soldier in combat zones is more likely to be raped by a fellow soldier than killed by enemy fire. Twenty percent of all active-duty female servicewomen are sexually assaulted.
Profoundly moving, the film follows the stories of several idealistic young servicewomen who were raped and then betrayed by their own officers when they courageously came forward to report. Both a rallying cry for the hundreds of thousands of men and women who've been assaulted and a hopeful road map for change, THE INVISIBLE WAR is one of those rare films so powerful it has already helped change military policy.

Title: 💯 not going to change
Review: Just be aware this can cause a trigger even if you are stable . I thought I would be ok and I ended up back in counseling . PTSD does get better in time but never goes away .

Title: Military Sex Crimes Finally Exposed
Review: The people in this film are REAL VICTIMS and not actors! For the first time in my life, I know for sure that I am not alone knowing that congress and senior military officers are being exposed for hiding criminal acts of rapists and felons. I was sexually assaulted and raped at my first duty station in the mid 1970's. The doctors performed the 'rape kit test' to prove that I was, in fact, raped. The rapist received a slap on the hand and orders back to the USA. I, on the other hand, received no counseling and a threat I will be discharged from the military if I share this incident with anyone. I was devistated and boarderline suicidal. I endured a total of three rapes throughout my career that were reported to senior officers. The last incident (date rape) gave the 'married' rapist a slap on the hands as I received a 'letter of caution' for reporting this terrible sex crime to the proper senior officers. The military counsel (a man) provided to me by the government made me out to be 'the problem' by exposing the rapist. Again, the rapist received a slap on the hand while I endured my third sexual assault. I was finally offered mental health counseling in March 1998 (AFTER MY RETIREMENT!). After almost TWO years of indepth medical exams, picking and probing by government medical reps., I received a 50% post trauma disability rating from the VA for my years of pain and suffering. Please keep in mind I was given experimental meds from the Veterans Administration, endured daily nightmares and night sweats that have devistated my entire life. I also suffer with severe migraines, TMJ and dental problems as an aftermath from one of these rapists. Shame on our leadership for these criminal coverups. Only our government would consider 'rape' an occupational hazzard. I pray that justice will FINALLY be validated and the victims (past, present and future) will receive their disability rating for these terrible violent sexual crimes. God Bless "us" Survivors! How many young people would join the military knowing they would be taking an 'oath' to be subjected to rape by their FELLOW COMRADES? I think NONE :((

Title: A caution to survivors...
Review: This movie is very powerful and can cause triggers to flare in survivors. Even those who have healed from their ordeals have broken down while watching it. If you know someone in the military who has been a victim of sexual assault, I urge you to have them visit their local Sexual Assault Response office. The military program isn't painted in a very good light (in the documentary) when it comes to *preventing* sexual assault but, despite that, they do very well when it comes to helping the victim find the resources they need to get their power back and to begin healing. Until science and technology make it possible for us to directly pinpoint a perpetrator, we will never be able to prevent sexual assault but we, as a society, can help victims when they need us (and even when they don't.)**edit Mar 7th, 2013** After reading my review, I realized it was more a response than a review. I'm no expert on the technical aspects of film-making but I am a survivor of sexual assault and I felt that this film (when it first came out) did a great service in getting folks to talk about sexual assault. The word of mouth has been astounding and very positive. So much so, that other victims have come forward to the folks that were featured in the film as well as to those of us who serve as Victim Advocates. We hear about sexual assault in the military but, until this film came out, there was never really a face to put on it. The court cases were vague and didn't last very long as lead stories in the media. This film has been out for a year or so now and it's still helping to be a reference/launching pad for change in the military. It's helping to keep the cancer of sexual assault in the spotlight as something that needs to be eradicated.

Title: very disturbing material
Review: Right off, I don't think any female entering any branch of the military as either an enlisted person or in then officer corps should join until watching this. If I had a daughter or sister who wanted to go in I would do my best to dissuade her.I am a veteran myself serving during the early 70s and the same chain of command cronyism and officers/and others covering for each other existed back then. I saw more than one life ruined because the victims crossed the wrong person in a position of power. It's important to remember in the military all the protections afforded civilians do not apply. The chain of command was and still is likely to force an aggrieved person to cross paths with his/her aggressor directly of through one of his/her buddies. In the 40+ years since I was out, it's still that way.I had an excellent military time in service and I didn't get in trouble so I have no axe to grind. But, unless you have been in the military you have no clue what it can be like, the absolute power people wield over the lives of others, and the power to destroy those who dare speak against those over them.I respect and honor the military and it's sad that the environment of the military allows such unfit people within it's ranks who as long as they play the game correctly can be given such limitless power. Many of them could only survive in that world where it's so easy to hide one's true nature.Things could change and some things have but it requires awareness first and this does that in spades.

Review: This DVD is definitely worth viewing by all genders who are not minors in age; minors should have consent along with approved responsible adult viewing. And, this DVD can be catorgized into multiple sectons of the library such as: political science, social sciences, men & womens' health, legal studies, war crimes, financial, humanitarian, rehabilitation & self help section(s), fitness & endurance on an elevated scale and most likely other categories. I paid top dollar for this DVD which was a bit expensive for me as I remain unemployed still seeking necessary employment for self sufficiency and longevity; however, my local public library assistance, a male, also thought this DVD was worth purchasing and as soon as it was delivered to me I viewed it and immediately donated it to my Calgary public library. I ordered this DVD as it was in a section of my Calgary Herald newspaper that I subscribe to. Although some people might feel uncomfortable watching this DVD it is educational and applicable on various levels.
