Title: Good book but c'mon, critical reasoning, folks?
Review: "Fig. 2.1. Every day, 2,000 gallons of blood circulate many times through about 60,000 miles of blood vessels..."So. Here we have an opportunity in basic order-of-magnitude critical fact checking. Picture a gallon of milk in your mind. How large is it? Got a feel for that? OK, now stack up 10 gallons of milk. How large is that? Make that 10 deep so it's 100 gallons. Is that smaller or larger than a person? If you took a person like a sponge, and completely squeezed them out, how many gallons of blood would you get? Closer to 2, 20, 200, or 2,000? Red Cross says around 1.2 gallons, maybe one and a half for large people. So let's think now about how long the capillary system is, and how long 60,000 miles is. It's about 300 miles to drive from Philly to Pittsburgh. The continental United States is 2,800 miles wide. Diameter of the Earth is less than 8,000 miles. Circumference of the Earth is less than 25,000 miles. So we're talking twice around the Earth at the equator, plus 10,000 miles extra. Does that sound like it's in the right ballpark to you?Further research shows the 60,000 miles myth has entered the American zeitgeist as a ubiquitous legend, even citing the National Institute on Aging. I give up. You try stretching the meat in a 6' de-boned man around the block, let alone across the country, and see how far you get. Critical reasoning is truly dead.Apart from that, the book is well-organized, easy to read, and useful. Buy this one and glean its good parts.

Title: Worked for me!
Review: I ordered Blood Pressure Down a couple of weeks ago. On the day it arrived, my blood pressure reading was 121/91 (not too bad, but technically hypertension stage 2 because the lower number was over 90). One week later my reading was 117/78 — normal!I went off my medication and have continued to have normal readings. It’s only been a few days, so I’m going to keep watching it closely, but I have been amazed to see my numbers so good after two years of trial and error and consistently high readings.Dr. Janet Bond Brill explains the details in plain English with lots of studies to back up her conclusions. Her tips are easy to follow and put into practice right away.If you have high blood pressure and you’re willing to put in the work to control it naturally, this book is definitely worth the read!

Title: ok, but most of the info is also online for free
Review: My husband and I both have elevated blood pressure and do not want to go on meds so I've been researching how to lower it without them hence the purchase of this book. There really wasn't any new information in the book that I hadn't already found on multiple sites online. Lose weight, exercise, eat foods rich in Potassium, Magnesium and Calcium..... I didn't pick up any new tips I hadn't already read online. the chapters seem to be drawn out reiterations of the same info available everywhere. For me it wasn't worth the money spent.

Title: Worked. Worked fast. Get ready to get your greens and bananas on.
Review: It worked. I found I had high blood-pressure quite by accident when I went to get new glasses and technician checked me. 154/81. I made the guy check me 2 more times, sure enough, it was high. Two months of herbs and exercise, checking my BP with a home machine, it was coming in between 174/84 and 150/81 every time, except very first thing in the morning. I bought this book, went to the grocery and checked every label for sodium. It was sad. Say good-bye to cheese and most bread. I tracked nutrients on MyFitnessPal.com, which I use with my Fitbit anyway, and once you get a menu in there, you can just replicate it day to day. Good news. 5 days on the diet I'm at 127/79 - 124/81. Consistently, different times of day. Exercising at least 1/2 hour a day. Sodium was tough, and I'm not ready to go out to dinner yet, but here's the thing, 5 days I'm in the normal range. You are going to eat a LOT of greens. Spinach and arugula for me, and a LOT of bananas, to get your potassium up to 4700mg a day. I've only made it one day, and that's with smoothies and stuff -- but it has worked. It's going to be tough to stay on this diet. Some tips. There is a low sodium ricotta cheese available you can sort of press into service. And balsamic vinaigrette and balsamic vinegar reduction are about the only salad dressings that have no sodium. Commercial dressings ridiculously high in sodium. The ranch dressing I like is over 650mg per serving, so that's over a 3rd of your daily allowance for 2 tablespoons of dressing. Not acceptable. Mrs. Dash helps give your food some flavor, too. In short, this plan works, and works fast. Now I need to see if I can stick with it.

Title: My first and last book on blood pressure!
Review: I'm 70 and was beginning to have high blood pressure issues. When my doctor increased my meds a second time, I decided to take things seriously. With a heart attack, I would either die, or not. But a stroke would be a whole different story I wanted to avoid. It was my good fortune I selected Blood Pressure Down from Amazon. The book is a quick read and gives very simple explanations for what is needed to drop your BP. I am amazed at how easy it was to do the program and how quickly I got results. In just two weeks I got my BP to slightly below normal and even lost a few pounds. In a follow-up visit my doctor reduced my meds and when I report the latest data, she will probably reduce my meds even further. Written by a nutritionist, Blood Pressure Down gives common sense details I needed to know and it turns out I actually like what I'm supposed to eat. I don't feel as if I made major changes as much as fine tuning my diet, but the results are remarkable. I won't start preaching about this book, but just to say it provides basic information that's worth knowing. Even if you don't have high BP, read it and find out what you've been eating.

Review: High blood pressure is the silent , invisible , slow killer. You can't feel it , and won't know you have it until a health practitionerslaps a blood pressure cuff on you , or you do it yourself at a drug store or similar establishment. High blood pressure causes deteriorationof various organs and systems ranging from cardiovascular to kidney. This book is an invaluable resource on how to prevent it , as well ashow to deal with it , with or without the intervention of drug therapy. Here , in one source , is all the stuff your doctor would tell you if he or shecould spend hours with you when you are diagnosed with this condition , rather than the 10 minute window that an appointment provides for. Your Doctor will almost certainly tell you to severely limit salt , but the book goes way beyond that to also explain the relationship and interaction of salt /magnesium / and potassium . In North America , where salt is extremely over used , and sneaks into food under a vast number of disguises becauseit is a dirt cheap way to enhance flavour without investing in quality ingredients , this book is a must read for every eater.

Review: This book gives a simple method of getting your blood pressure down by getting enough calcium, magnesium and potassium in your daily diet. It sounds easy enough but not once in 4 months have I been able to get enough potassium in my diet. For magnesium I sometimes get enough but often have to supplement. Its not as easy as it seems. But I think the advice is sound - I just haven't figured out how to get all those nutrients daily.

Review: I followed the diet religiously for a month and went from 143/81 to 132/76. My blood pressure dropped within a week and then plateaued. I'm 57, 6'0", 81kg with a BMI under 25 and with a good appetite and I found it difficult to eat as much each day of the potassium, magnesium and soy protein required. I've been eating more than usual. The red wine and dark chocolate was less of a problem! The diet may have helped but it's not a magic bullet.
