There is no other wine that is as versatile, as utterly unique in its range and production methods—and, unfortunately, as misunderstood—as sherry. For centuries, sherry was considered one of the world’s great wines, spoken about in the same reverential terms as the finest Bordeaux and Burgundies. But in the last few decades, sherry lost its way—and cheap, cloyingly sweet blends sullied the reputation of what remains one of Spain’s oldest and greatest winemaking traditions.
Thankfully, sherry is in the midst of a renaissance. Beloved of sommeliers and bartenders in the craft cocktail community, today sherry is being re-discovered and re-appreciated as an incredible table wine and essential component of many classic cocktails.
Sherry is essential reading for wine or spirits professionals looking to incorporate this complex wine into their menu, and for adventurous drink enthusiasts who are on the hunt for something unexpected. With a comprehensive yet accessible overview of the different styles of sherry, how they are made, and the people and places that produce it, Sherry demystifies what can be a confusing (and seemingly contradictory) wine.
A thorough buyer’s guide lists top producers and profiles the very best bodegas and wines. And a whole chapter on sherry-based cocktails illuminates a completely different side of sherry, featuring classic recipes like the Tuxedo and Sherry Cobbler, as well as modern creations from the country’s top bartenders (Jim Meehan’s East India Negroni, Derek Brown’s Kojo Cocktail). More than a dozen recipes for tapas and other delicious foods—best eaten alongside a glass of sherry, of course—round out this wonderfully eclectic, engaging, and inspiring collection.

Title: "The Wine World's Best-Kept Secret" is right!
Review: This book's sub-title says it all. Sherry IS the wine world's best kept secret. I did not know that until I went to the sherry region of Spain and couldn't believe what I had been missing by not paying more attention to this truly delicious wine. How was it possible that I, as one who has tried to discover and hopefully will someday try all the wonders of food and wine as possible, had no idea what an amazing wine sherry was? I thought it was simply a wine used in cooking, a sweet tipple favored by elderly ladies in older times, or a prop in literature (i.e. Poe's "The Cask of Amontillado.") How wrong I was!Reading this book is like being on a tour of Jerez and learning about it from the people who are the most passionate and knowledgable about it. I felt as though I was transported back to the eye-opening, palate-exploding trip I took to the western edges of Andalusia where sherry is made. The sophistication of the upper echelon sherries I tasted while there was so seriously mind-blowing that I wanted to keep learning about it. Talia Baiocchi has made that possible with this book.To quote from the book:"Summing up sherry's history - with its veritable conga line of characters, ranging from conquerors to world explorers, drunken sailors, writers, poets, cocktail=slinging Americans, California imitators, and new-school evangelists - is about as easy as defining the wine. Which is to say, not easy at all."The author, however, makes is seem very easy with writing that is as entertaining as it is informative. This book is pretty much everything you need to know about sherry - the history, the culture, the producers. Also included is an impressive number of craft cocktail recipes along with a fair number of tapas recipes that either include or compliment sherry. If you already love sherry, you will love this book as I do.If you are interested expanding your wine experience or palate, learning about sherry is a very good place to start a journey you won't forget.

Title: Need to pair dishes? need to know more about these wines? this is the book.
Review: This book is a complete a deep guide about sherries (jerez) I didn't know many facts about Sherry but I heard is used to pair with many especially dry sherries, I didn't know Sherry is the driest wine in the world. After reading this book I bought many sherries and I enjoyed drinking and combining with food, they are awesome for strong cheeses. What a discover. Talia loves Sherries and Spain, I never been there but I will go to Jerez de la Frontera to live the experience.

Review: If you arenât drinking sherry yet, pick up this book. Iâm not talking about that awful cream sherry, either. Talia Baiocchi teaches us how one of the worldâs great wines is made, where to find it, how to drink it, and what to eat with it. This book also includes some of the best collections of sherry cocktails Iâve seen. My favorite is the East India Negroni.

Title: The Perfect Guide
Review: This book gives an approachable history of the wines of Jerez, explains the different styles produced, and provides a simple guide for the best selections from each bodega -- recommendations I've already put to good use. It would be a wonderful thing if the rest of the wine world would pull its collective head out and write more books like this, without pretension and with an eye toward usefulness, as Baiocchi has here.

Title: A Must-Have for the True Aficionado
Review: I'm a serious student of wine, and everything I can grab in order to expand my knowledge, I'm going to do. The unfortunate thing with many of the books that we have to read in order to earn our wine designations is sometimes long and overly "soothing" text. And yes, this fits in with that genre, but it's a good read for the person who wants to learn about this fabulous type of wine. Highly recommended if you really want to learn about Sherry!

Review: Lots and lots of information about sherry â its history, production, bodegas, products, reception, and things. Recommended to anyone loving sherry or curious about it. Only drawback: the book is very US-centric, so parts of the book arenât as helpful or interesting for me as the rest.
