Title: Best Years.
Review: The music from one of my most favorite movies of all time. I've found both the movie and the music helpful in many ways as I returned from my years in Afghanistan. The story is full of blue print moments that guide and the music uplifts and inspires and affirms.

Title: The perfect film score
Review: I collect sound tracks and film score recordings and agree with critics that Hugo Friedhofer's score to the classic movie "The Best Years of our Lives" is the perfect film score. Nowadays Best Years of our Lives is best known for being the film that beat out "It's a Wonderful Life" for best picture oscar of 1946. That's how I first got to know this classic film: I had to watch the film that beat out my favorite Christmas film, and determine why. After watching this film for the first time with its poignant take on returning servicemen, with its compelling acting leads performed by the greats of the Hollywood golden age, and add to it the majestic score--I was completely overwhelmed. I understood how it could beat Capra's Wonderful Life. It echoed real events and real people coming home by the millions from World War Two. Friedhofer won an oscar for best original score, one of eight total oscars this film garnered. He beat out two other giants in the film score composing world: Miklos Rozsa and Franz Waxman. Listening to this CD captured all the magic of the movie and reminded me how great Friedhofer's effort was. He was told to write something that mirrored the American scene and he did so with wonderful touches that include trumpet and sax, instruments that seem to suggest a unique American flavor and sonority. Like all great composers, Friedhofer is able to show with his music, the excitement of soldiers returning home to fast-paced America with its hamburgers and pretty girls. His music for the "glamorous flyboy" uses the saxophone at its sensual and seductive best. He includes the old chestnut "Among my souvenirs" to suggest the older sergeant returning home to his wife and grown-up kids in a burnished melancholy that conveys comfortable maturity. Maybe best of all is the sweeping opening chords with their hopeful upswing that suggests both the anticipation of excited boys finally home from the war, and the anticipation of us the movie-goers about to witness one of the greatest movies of all time, for which the American cinema is justly known as the best in the world. This is a must-have CD.

Title: Great Music for a Small Segment of Society
Review: This is great music, but it will probably appeal to only a small segment of society. The movie came out at the end of World War II and won Best Film and Music of the Year, 1946. I like it because of it's power, drama, and historical context. I subtracted one star because of age -- the musics age, not mine. CD came quick with no problems.

Title: Simply Spectacular
Review: I didn't even realize this product existed and I regret not getting it sooner. In short, I highly, highly recommend it.I had posted a video regarding "The Best Years ..." on YouTube and one of the comments was from a producer of this CD; his comment introduced me to this product.I enjoy the movie tremendously, but listening to this CD felt like a completely new experience. Without the "distraction" of the video and dialogue, I was moved all over again. It felt like I was enjoying this for the very first time.Oh, and did I overlook mentioning the liner notes? The notes alone make this CD well worth the price.Yes, if you like the movie, you'll love this superb CD, too.

Title: Superb. Poignant. Timeless. Buy it. Enjoy it.
Review: Candor is the Order-Of-The-Day:"TSK, TSK, TSK" to Producer "Slasher." Tissue or towel? After 67 years, this is long since "Public Domain." I would encourage EVERYONE to cherish and enjoy this Classic Soundtrack.I suspect "Slasher" may well be Heir or Relative to the original Producer or Composer -- now long since Passed. Find a way to make your own way in this World, "Slasher." Stop carping and whining that you can't "cash-in" the Fruits of someone else's Labor and Genius and in so doing deny these Fruits to others.In short: GROW UP!

Title: Fantastic Score from one of the Best Movies Ever Made
Review: I'm delighted that somebody finally issued a DVD of this truly fantastic score. This movie is iconic, a masterpiece that bridges the mostly forulaic and always cinematic pictures that came before and the more realistic sensibilities of post-war film. The score is an essential element in making the move what it is, with haunting melodies and sparely applied dramatic flourishes.

Review: AmazonでMP3が購入できない状況が続いているし、良いモノは手元に置いていたいジジイなもんで、美しい Exit Music を目当てにCDを購入した。他の曲も勿論素晴らしいのだが、映画が終わりCast of Characterタイトルも終わったのち、感動しているお客を、その感動のまま幸せな気持ちで現実世界へ送り出そうとするこの名曲は、何度聞いても涙が出る。まさにこの曲までを含めて『我等の生涯の最良の年』という作品なのだ。二十年近く前、持っていたサントラをつらい事情で手放したこともあり、感動もひとしおである。ヒューゴ･フリードホーファ最高の作品。
