“Beautifully written and compulsively readable…At its core, this book is about redemption, grace, and pain.”
—Jenna Bush Hager

“A novel so full-blooded, so humane, that the pages feel almost warm to the touch. A clarifying, purifying chronicle of a promising young woman gone astray and the story of her comeback. Grace Turner can do it. You can do it, too.”
 —A.J. Finn

Grace Turner was one movie away from Hollywood’s A-List. So no one understood why, at the height of her career and on the eve of her first Golden Globe nomination, she disappeared.

Now, one year later, Grace is back in Los Angeles and ready to reclaim her life on her own terms.

When Grace is asked to present a lifetime achievement award to director Able Yorke—the man who controlled her every move for eight years—she knows there’s only one way she’ll be free of the secret that’s already taken so much from her.

The Comeback is a moving and provocative story of justice—a true page-turner about a young woman finding the strength and power of her voice.

Title: The Comeback
Review: Loved this book…Ella Berman’s writing has a wonderful flow. She keeps your interest throughout the book with twists and turns. But most of all it’s raw, honest and yet funny. It’s a good read!!

Title: You are right where you need to be
Review: “Have you ever seen a sunset like this one? I hope you have, the wild pink sky slashed with flaming streaks of gold, the kind of sunset that makes you feel lucky, golden; the type that has the power to tell you that perhaps, for one small moment in time, you are exactly where you need to be.”This story kept taking me back to the issues Britney Spears has faced and is currently facing. The story lines aren’t exactly similar, but humanity failed both women. This is the story of how one child’s rise to fame changed the course of her life, mostly in negative ways. How one persons abuse towards her at such an imperative age sent her into a spiral unable to trust anyone, not even her parents.I kept waiting for the climax of this story to hit, but it was just mediocre through and through. It did enough to keep it free or the DNF shelf, but not much extra.

Title: This novel packs a great punch!
Review: She was so high until she was so low. Hollywood child star. Not of her own making. It happened over night. They made it happen. Well, he made it happen by taking advantage of her. And they helped to make it all vanish. In the sickest of ways. And, then, she came back. There are probably better places to go undetected, but Grace chose to go to her parent’s house, where they wouldn’t pay any attention to her anyhow. In Anaheim. Every day was the same. She had to get away from it all. No more red carpets and movie premieres for her. It was all drugstore outings hidden behind cheap sunglasses and frumpy sweats this time around.Until something compelled her to go back. Or get even. Show the world who he really is. But she needed a plan. This is the ultimate payback and it needed to be masterminded.THE COMEBACK is the ultimate taking control of her life and no longer letting the man who manipulated her during her young, precious years get away with his should-be-behind-bars ways. It’s gripping, seething, it’s smart, good for you, stand up, sister, this is #MeToo, and forget you, creep, and I’ll show you.

Title: A Dark Five Stars!
Review: I wasn’t sure what I was getting into with this one. I had seen the cover floating around Instagram and started reading the sample. Right out fo the gate it grabs your attention and there was no way I couldn’t buy the book. There’s something about Grace’s tone that I loved and kind of got annoyed by, but couldn’t stop reading. I found myself surprised by how quickly this turned into a binge read. We all know the premise of the MeToo movement, but this story is much more than that.

Title: Interesting Look at the Ugly in LA
Review: Pretty good. This is not a romance, a comedy or a happily ever after, but a pretty honest look at what the ugly side of stardom must be like.Grace seems like she should be a spoiled princess but she's actually really messed up because of her early fame and successAt the hands of her director, a manipulative Harvey Weinstein type, but better looking. How that affects her and everyone around her is a fascinating look at how we see people who we think are so lucky, when all they want is to just live quiet, happy, uncomplicated lives.

Review: This book blew me away and reminded me of Emma Cline's The Girls (another brilliant novel). It's a tale for our times and yes, it has definite relevance to the #MeToo movement although the author explains she had started work on it before that all hit the headlines. What grabbed me was Grace's darkly funny voice. She is/has clearly suffered a breakdown and has screwed up in her life but having experienced what she's been through it is entirely understandable. She's a character in a seemingly impossible situation, a young woman trying to gain control of her life, trying to "come back" and start afresh. Among other things, it's about dysfunctional families, judgement, the way celebrities are treated in the media, the assumptions we make about them, the way certain people are protected from allegations. Yes, the subject matter is dark but it's handled well and is balanced by brilliant writing. I found it ultimately uplifting. Highly recommend!

Review: I got about a third of the way through. Drawn out narrative about an either indulged or self indulgent female, no story to speak of, just her crappy life. Was something going to happen?

Review: I love all things Californian and this book is full of brilliant mise-en-scene that transports you to sunny LA. I really enjoyed Grace's story and her as a character. Berman writes her beautifully, and I loved the glimpses into Hollywood life and the constant push and pull between light and dark.
