A timely drama that centers on an unlikely relationship between Ann Atwater (Academy Award® nominee Taraji P. Henson, Hidden Figures), an outspoken civil rights activist, and C.P. Ellis (Academy Award® winner Sam Rockwell, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri), a local Ku Klux Klan leader who reluctantly co-chaired a community summit, battling over the desegregation of schools in Durham, North Carolina during the racially-charged summer of 1971. The incredible events that unfolded would change Durham and the lives of Atwater and Ellis forever. Critics claim, "Taraji P. Henson and Sam Rockwell soar in this riveting true story" (Pete Hammond, Deadline).

Title: The Best of Enemies
Review: We watched this movie last night and it was great. A great story with a very positive ending. I wish the language had not included God's name in vain. Fortunately we pay for a filtering service that we ended up and had to watch the movie through. But it was a very good movie.

Title: Wonderful story of enemies becoming allies
Review: This movie is based on a wonderful true story of integrating schools in North Carolina back in the day. The two main characters in real life -- a Black activist and a Klan member -- started out enemies but became friends. The Klan member would lecture all over the state (I remember this) about how he came to realize he and his activist "enemy" had the same exact goals for their children. It's inspiring.

Title: this is what it is all about
Review: Sometimes the things human beings do, in their ignorance and fear, are monstrous. Ann's face looking into the eyes of that white hood and becoming frozen - you just knew she'd experienced something monstrous. And yet when becoming aware of the wound of the "monster" she couldn't help but ONLY see the human being inside, hopeless and hurting. This is a big story, even bigger than black/white, man/woman, rich/poor. It is just one more story that illustrates that sometimes the only thing that divides human beings is ignorance and programming - and that is hard to get out from under.if you see something, or are doing something, or are enabling something that feels in your gut to be wrong or horrifically wrong, yet you fear listening to your gut and doing something about it, understand that once you are brave enough to allow yourself to see past your programming and really look at it instead of putting your head back in the sand - once you take that first step out of your comfort "safety" zone, your fear will evaporate and you will become bold. ...and you see here, I stopped being afraid of run-on sentences : ) )“Be bold and mighty forces will come to your aid.” Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749-1832)"You can only get into the hearts of others by YOU being vulnerable yourself." Carlos' Master Class commercial (just saw the commercial 5 minutes ago)

Title: Story of Fierce Courage and Fierce Change - Loved it!
Review: Educational and thoroughly enjoyed. I was born in 1972 and this took place in 1971 so it was so interesting to see what the world was like back then. Such a historical story that we all can relate to. On the other hand, it is hard to watch and see such division between the races. I had no idea black Americans did not get the same textbooks whites did??? The unfairness just shakes me to the core. But thank God for such brave souls such as Miss Atwell and CP Ellis. The bravery these individuals had to have in order to invoke positive change is amazing to me. I certainly did not hear about this in my history classes growing up. Also this took place in the South...oh my! I highly recommend this film for anyone that was curious how integration came about. I do love "Cookie Lyon" who played the lead role. She is an amazing, powerful and beautiful actress. I hope to see her in many more roles/films in the future.

Title: This movie will have a long, long shelf life.
Review: I think this movie was overlooked during its theatrical release, unfortunately. There wasn't an audience for a movie about a white savior-that maybe not enough movie minutes were devoted to the Ann Atwater character or to her background? Credit the actress and the real life Ann Atwater because I was moved by her performance. A++++ She isn't the dynamic character in the screenplay, but she does inspire change. C.P. Ellis changes. Who should be the protagonist? You could argue that. Both leads were fantastic. Actors used to be rewarded with Oscar nominations for portrayals, like these. I think critics found it too cliche' or formulaic. Welp. It was moving. Was it written in such a way to ring emotions from us? Yes. But, It is rooted in the truth. It was about teamwork and unity. It is one of those movies that will be rewarded with more and more viewers. There are movies that build an audience over time. This deserves an audience.

Review: What a wonderful true story. With racial tension at a high point in 1971- human spirit and doing the right thing stands tall in this superb underrated little gem. Taraji P. Henson and Sam Rockwell are brilliant in this must see tale of America then and still relates today.
