A mystery novelist with writer’s block, a lavish party to ring in the new year, and a film star with three bullets through his head…
December 1927. Mystery-writer Marius Quin has one previous bestseller, endless looming mortgage payments, and no idea how to write his next book. When his childhood friend Lady Isabella Montague invites him to an intimate New Year’s Eve party hosted by a narcissistic actor, Marius seizes upon the distraction. With his perpetually glum Basset hound along for the ride, he navigates the snowy lanes to the opulent estate of Everham Hall. As the celebrations begin, fireworks light up the sky, champagne corks pop, and then the host is murdered…
Snowed-in and with the police unable to reach them, Marius is the closest thing the panicked party has to a detective and he is swiftly nominated to find the killer. But when two more guests are attacked, Marius soon realises that solving mysteries is even harder than writing them. With Bella at his side, and a clutch of conniving suspects to choose from, can Marius find the culprit before the killer targets him?
A completely charming and witty golden-age cozy mystery, perfect for the Christmas season. Fans of Agatha Christie, T E Kinsey and Lee Strauss won’t be able to put down the Marius Quin Mysteries!

Title: Benedict Brown can do no wrong
Review: I love this author soooo much, he is an automatic buy for me and I've read everything he's come out with so far because it is all AMAZING. This new series is another amazing world I cannot wait to cozy into. Our main character Marius is relatable but is more suave and mature than other characters in his other series. Which is wonderful! I love this slightly more serious side but it still has all the classic Benedict Brown humor through out. I also am SO EXCITED to have a thread of romance in this series. It's not too much at all and it never detracts from the mystery but I know Benedict is gonna give us the besssst slow burn. Can't wait!! Definitely read this book! The mystery is intriguing, the characters are well fleshed out, the book is humorous and light hearted. And it's set during Chritmas/NYE - so cozy scenery throughout. What more could you want!?

Title: Very enjoyable
Review: It's a five star story, but I had to knock off a star for the 1st person pov. I usually won't even read a novel told in 1st person because it's such a lazy way to write and is rarely done well. But Brown pulls it off well enough and has a strong lead character with a solid voice. I did guess the murderer early on but not the full scheme, and Brown keeps the action moving with very little timewasting or repetitive speculation, both of which I greatly appreciate. Looking forward to reading the rest of this series.

Title: Book much smaller!
Review: This paperback book of this first installment of this new series is much smaller than previous paperback books of the Lord Edgington series. Itâs too small of print for me to read and so it sits in a box to go to Goodwill. How disappointing!

Title: A potpourri of intriguing characters
Review: Benedict Brown never disappoints with his carefully crafted plots and artfully integrated clues. Being a dedicated reader of his works, I may have somehow synced in to his devious mind. But even though I figured out the puzzle, it was a really good puzzle! And I am going to thoroughly enjoy the unfolding of the protagonists' lives. For fellow Izzy Palmer lovers, I started to feel like we were witness to an earlier incarnation of Delicious Doctor Danny and Izzy, as played out in a different Era. I love those little embedded gifts that Brown leaves for his readers. This clever book abounds with treats and chuckles, and toss-head-my-head-back-laughter. Much needed, so thank you.

Title: Full of drama
Review: Marius Quin wrote one successful detective novel before he developed writerâs blockâand depression. Serendipitously, he runs into his childhood sweetheart, Bella Montagu, who invites him to join her on a cozy weekend at a famous actorâs home. Marius was thrilled to spend time with Bella until he realized Bellaâs boyfriend was attending. But when host and silent screen star Cecil Sinclair is murdered and a storm bars anyone else from arriving, Marius and Bella regain some of the rapport they once had and begin their own investigation. With friends who are part of the film industry and the tension after the murder, there is much drama. Set in a family manor, this is descriptive and interesting, as Marius has to overcome his own self-doubt to move forward.

Review: I have read several books by the author and Look forward to reading this book. The 1st few pages Had me wandering if I was going to like this new series. However I loved it. I found the main character Markus to be very interesting. He is quirky and a little lost. After running into his childhood sweetheart things seem to take a turn for him.He decides to attend a new years eve party and is immediately thrown I to a room of people he does not know if for the most part like. A series of events forces him to attempt to solve a murder.I usually can figure out the killer in most mysteries but I found this one very challenging. There are Several delightful characters including a sweet basset hound and a family that I hope will make more appearances, as well as a possible romance brewing with his future sidekick.I look forward to the next book and the growth of this writer/detective.

Title: An Excellent Mystery
Review: I had read one of Brownâs books from another of his/her series and didnât particularly care for it so hadnât planned to read any more of the books. However when this series was brought to my attention it sounded like it would be really good so I decided to give it a try. I am so glad because this is a fantastic mystery. Marius and Bella are fascinating characters. This one had me so fooled. I was sure I knew who the murderer was almost from the beginning but as usual I was totally wrong. I highly recommend it.

Review: This Benedict Brownâs first book in the Marius Quin mystery series a character we met briefly in one of the âLord Edgington Investigatesâ and again set in the late nineteen-twenties and what promise it holds for further novels.Once again I read one of Benedictâs novels in one sitting, I promise you they are that good.Marius is a mystery novel writer and after unexpectedly meeting his childhood friend Bella, Lady Isabel Montague, after ten years he is invited to spend New Yearâs Eve at the home of silent movie star Cecil Sinclair. Cecil is murdered that very evening and being snowed in it falls to Marius and Bella to determine just who the perpetrator is.The story is filled with interesting information and small details which have been meticulously researched for accuracy and Benedict delineates his characters with the same attention, you see and hear them vividly.Having been a fan of Mr Brownâs work since his first âLord Edgington Investigatesâ I was looking forward to this new series and I was not disappointed and am now eagerly awaiting the next book in the series.

Review: After falling in love with both the Izzie Palmer series and the Lord Edginton series, I was brimming with enthusiasm when I got my hands on a new series written by Benedict Brown !And I absolutely adored it.Marius Quin is a glorious main character, a mystery writer who has written one novel and cannot get a second one on paper. (That MUST BE frustrating, poor Quin ! )Brown writes his likeable characters extremely well, but he also does a splendid job with the eerie, rude, weird and unkind ones. It makes for a highly entertaining novel!I really hope many more novels will follow in this series 🙂

Review: Marius is visiting the home of a famous actor for New Year. Is the host really as disgusting as he appears to be? Murder and mayhem are certainly not what he expected and being snowed in with a murderer is NOT a good way to celebrate New Yearâs Eve! How did such a strange collection of guests really come together in this huge mansion and are they who they claim to be? As he tries to find the solution, the weird atmosphere spreads confusion and fear.He may have written a best seller mystery book, but can Marius use those skills to prevent further deaths and solve the crime?
