In this book I want to take you into the heart of meditation. It’s so much easier than you might think! Usually when taught, the practice is either over simplified or overly complex. In this text, I’ve preserved the ancient teachings by bringing them to light with a modern medical language of the body and brain. The result is that you enter into meditation with relative ease, and quickly find the calm depths within yourself.

As the parable goes, if you give a man a fish, he eats for a day. If you teach him to fish, he eats for a lifetime. What I’ve discovered is, if you teach a man to fish with a grounded approach, he’ll quickly become an accomplished expert, exceeding all expectations! That’s the power of meditation based on a medical representation, and my students are the proof.

“But I can’t meditate – it’s too hard!” Many will say. Because they think they have to forcefully control their minds. Not so!

Meditation was never meant to be a struggle for control, but rather to apply a more powerful technique, which quiets the body first. This calm body reflects back on the mind, and the mind simmers down automatically. This approach will win over brute mental force every time!

I’ve been a lover of meditation, and studied Kriya Yoga for over 30 years. In 2017, my guru Ashok Singh gave me permission to teach, and appointed me a Kriya Guru. Everything I teach will always be in line with this system, and in this book I’ll be showing you the underlying core of every meditation approach.

First, we will learn to fully relax the body. As the body enters into the Low-Idle-State, the resulting calmness will seep into the mind. The mind then becomes quiet, and so the body calms even more. It’s a domino effect as we awaken the body’s natural system of rest and recovery. All we have to do is set up the first two dominos of entering the Low-Idle-State while Sitting Very Still, and down the rabbit hole we go!

Second, we will explore the Kriya Yoga Bliss Program, and how the original Kriya Yoga of Lahiri Mahasaya was designed to infuse the yogi’s life with a little bliss each day. It’s difficult to constantly worry, and always overthink your entire life, when you have an ever-ready resource of bliss inside of yourself! We can be balanced, proactive, creative, and responsible – yet wouldn’t it be nice to cultivate a little bliss while we go along for the ride of our lives? The Kriya Yogi thinks so.

Finally, we’ll explore Expansion, which is the heart of the ancient message in the epic yogic text of the Bhagavad Gita. If you can touch Expansion in your meditations, then there is no bar to depth and bliss for you. This three-part recipe of Low-Idle-State, Bliss, and Expansion is guaranteed to give you wonderful results, and be a pure joy along the way!

Title: How to fall in love with meditation!
Review: I read this book shortly after it came out and gobbled it like a delicious meal. Shortly after reading it, I started to gift it to my friends so that they could share in this feast. And, if I may, I would like to share my thoughts about this book with other readers and meditators. The book is simple and clear in its explanations and presentations of technique. The information is practical, evidence-based, effective, and simple to understand. The author marries the language of medicine and brain biology with ancient technology of yoga. He presents ancient and effective techniques that are supported by a cutting edge understanding of physiology, neuro science and neurotheology. One of the main obstacles to meditation, in my opinion, is the "mind whirlpool' of thoughts as memories and feelings. The author presents a simple solution using breath and heart rate variability to put the body quickly into a low idle state and consequently transcend the conscious mind vortex of to-do lists, worries, and TikTok dance videos.Even more, he presents biological feedback mechanisms, accessible to anyone, that help to gauge the stages of meditative experience. One of my favorite lines, "with just a little effort every day, you will notice the cumulative effect in your life: more consistent joy, more laughter, and less concern for the constant troubles."There is a line in the book, "Some yogis think they can torture themselves into truth: they force themselves to sit for hours in meditation, hoping that this will give them the realization they crave." I identified so deeply with that attitude. You see, there was some truth, some happy thought, I was trying to remember like a forgotten name to a familiar face: "I know you from somewhere.....but...." For decades, I felt meditation was the answer to the happiness I craved. I sat for hours at a time. I persevered, but did not flourish in my practices. I just could not give the face a name. After decades of practice, I started to experiment with the meditation techniques as described in this book. After a short time, my attitude toward meditation changed. I fell in love with meditation, a little at a time, but much more quickly than I expected. Eventually the feeling appeared that I was falling in love with my Self, and my Self in others. This understanding persists and is expanding. There is a Quranic verse that I love, "Wherever you turn, there is the face of God," That was the face whose name I could not remember. The best compliment I can give this book is that it is kind. It is encouraging as it gently draws the reader into the loving arms of meditation. It is a blessing. Thank you.

Title: Breakthrough approach to meditation
Review: I cannot recommend this book more highly. The techniques that Knutson introduces here have supercharged my meditation practice. These techniques are straightforward. Anyone can do them - although it probably helps to have done diaphragmatic yogic breathing in the past (as I have). I am now on my second reading of the book, which is not typical for me! I received so much from my first go-through that I knew I had to go through it again to incorporate more detail. The best thing about Forrest's approach is that it is thoroughly contemporary, and grounded in cutting-edge research into how the brain functions. And it is anything but stress-inducing.I had been meditating seriously on my own for the past 7 years, after decades of being a hatha yogi, using primarily a mantra-based approach, as well tools picked up from Robert Monroe's various tapes, with reasonable results - but also with a good amount of frustration. The 'modern Kriya' approach that Forrest introduces here has taken me to new depths. Highly, highly recommended.

Title: The best teaching ever.
Review: I have read many books in my life about spiritual development, autobiographies of great yogis, and about kriya. In each of them, my curious mind found pearls of beautiful knowledge, understanding, and guidance on where to go next. This book turned out to be a real treasure; it contains the entire pearl necklace. Each pearl is polished with care and attention and is presented in its best form. Every technique, every word has been passed through the author’s experience, and he generously shares his knowledge. This is so valuable! For me, the main value was that here I found a detailed description of the journey back Home from A to Z. Everything is written in accessible English. All you need to do is practice! A detailed description of all the states that can arise during practice also helped me a lot; it’s like road signs. If I didn’t know about their existence, I would probably have missed them. Knowing about them makes it easier for me to navigate in this new reality for me. Thank you, Forrest, for your hard work. Your help is priceless.

Title: Attend This!
Review: In a little more than 150 pages, Forrest Knutson shares an itinerary to the One-in-All divine state, that he refers to as The Big Holy. By his own account, he has made that journey and become familiar with the route, the signs and indications, the tricky areas and some tricks of his own, and offers this information to us, for our benefit.I pick up a copy of The Upanishads, revealed texts from ancient India; some refer to meditation, and a "something" called yoga. The page I open to says, "When we encounter this daring vision of Reality, we want to know what TO DO. If this tremendous vision is to have any ultimate meaning for us, there must be some way we can at least partly realize it ourselves." Well . . . yes. Yes, we do. And now we have Mastering Meditation, our "field manual." It checks the all the key boxes: useful, helpful, thorough, light-hearted, and utterly applicable. Of course, it's up to the reader to take advantage of the helpful advice, and make the trek.Forrest quotes Richard Feynman: "Knowledge isn't free. You have to pay attention." With a nod toward Mastering Meditation, I would say, "Attend this!" Highly commended, and re-commended!
