Title: Developments are believably realistic
Review: The two main characters in this Christmas in Manhattan story have very different views about what they want out of life. Dr. Helena Tate tries to be positive when she envisions what the future will bring, while Dr. Elijah Davenport feels he will always be alone and never have a wife. But when a celebration has them in close contact for an extended period, the simmering attraction they both feel turns into an almost uncontrollable desire for them to be together. What happens when they give in are days filled with delight until old fears resurface. The seasonal aspects in the book certainly had me smiling as I watched the couple enjoy various festivities during their daily lives. The storyline is also very emotional and truly compelling. Susan Carlisle makes every development in CHRISTMAS WITH THE BEST MAN believably realistic and constantly captivating. While part of a continuity, the book is understandable without reading the prior books. After an emotionally distressing incident when Dr. Helena Tate was a teenager, she has tried to move forward. Though she is a successful emergency room doctor, there is no one special in her life at this time. Yet she hopes one day to find a man with whom to have the family that she desires. While Helena does often interact with Dr. Elijah Davenport at Manhattan Mercy hospital, his reputation of not wanting to settle down with one woman lets her know they can never be anything but professional coworkers. When Elijah’s twin brother gets married and he along with Helena are attendants, there are several playful moments after the ceremony which have them really noticing the other for the first time. The couple then seem to come in contact more often at work after the wedding. Although there is certainly much physical longing between Helena and Elijah, his attitude about relationships is nothing like hers, so she feels giving in to the strong pull will only result in future misery.Holiday stories are always a favorite of mine, and I had a great time visiting several decorated sights in New York along with the characters. The latest Christmas in Manhattan installment even has a wedding that was imaginatively seasonal. How Helena reacts to the snow had me grinning, since I am also a southerner. When it comes to any medical procedures, each problem is handled in a way which had me convinced every detail is accurate. Getting to see these two dedicated doctors during a crisis let me know just how much they cared about their patients. From the start of CHRISTMAS WITH THE BEST MAN, I really like Helena and Elijah. While both have a good reason for letting an event cause them anguish in the past, she has not let it dictate much of her current life as he still does. These two individuals will have to do much soul-searching before their short fling can become more than a few days of pleasure, and Susan Carlisle gives each much to ponder when unexpected feelings are experienced. I thought all responses were spot-on for the happenings in their lives, and a few reactions left me worrying how everything would ultimately turn out for the spirited Helena and Elijah.I voluntarily reviewed the book, and all comments are my honest opinion - 4.5 Stars

Title: Christmas with the Best Man
Review: They were thrown together for a week. Working in the ER at the hospital his family has been involved with for many years. She is new to the hospital but still a good ER doctor. Both have issues from their own past that have shaped them. But can a week long affair be the best thing to get over it?

Title: Beautiful Christmassy Story
Review: This is a beautiful romantic and very Christmassy story set in New York and starting at the best wedding in Central Park in the snow sigh, it was gorgeous and just the push that two ER Doctors needed to get them together for a sensual moving road to a beautiful HEA.Dr Helena Tate has had a bit of heartbreak in her life but she still believes in love and marriage and children, she is close to her family but has moved from the South up to New York and is very happy working at Manhattan Mercy Hospital. But when she is maid of honour at her friend’s wedding she is suddenly very attracted to the best man Elijah Davenport and one kiss and dance in the snow leads to a fling or can it be more.Elijah is not interested in marriage at all he has seen what his parent’s marriage is like and he wants none of it and he has something that he has held close to himself for many years and guilt plays a big part in his life but he is a bit of a playboy so he is shocked at the pull he feels for Helena at his brother’s wedding and convinces her to have a fling will his heart melt a little. This is really a good story the banter between Helena and Elijah is just the best they both have such a great sense of humour that had me smiling, as well as a deep sense of honesty but the love that grows between them cannot be denied it shines and sparks and this Christmas fling turns Elijah around and together they become one beautifully. This is a must read MS Carlisle has written another winner that ticks all of the boxes for a fabulous medical romance.

Title: Wonderful, likeable characters. Standalone read.
Review: “Love is rare. Not something to take for granted. It doesn’t come by like a taxi every five minutes. You must catch it when you can.”The Christmas in Manhattan series consists of six books written by six different authors, focusing on five Davenport siblings and one cousin. The stories appear to be standalone reads, with characters from all the books making crossover appearances.Christmas with the Best Man is the first book I’ve read in the series so I can say without a doubt that you can start reading this series in whichever order you choose. The story starts out with the wedding of Charles Davenport (Elijah’s twin) and Grace Forbes. Their story is told in Sleigh Ride with the Single Dad.Elijah Davenport and Helena Tate are both ER doctors at Manhattan Mercy in New York City. They’ve worked together for years, but there has never been anything between them. In fact, they have never even looked at each other as anything but colleagues until the day of Charles and Grace’s wedding. The two simply want different things. Elijah doesn’t believe in love or committed relationships. Helena wants a forever love with marriage and children. At the wedding, it is clear that they are attracted to each other. Elijah suggests that while Charles and Grace are away for the week they engage in a fling. Helena agrees, thinking that she will just use the time to get Elijah out of her system. She thinks that she will be able to protect her heart since she knows their time together is short and that Elijah doesn’t want the same things as she does. As their week together progresses, the two realize that their feelings for each other are deeper than they ever realized. Things start to feel a little too real and fears buried deep and just below the surface arise, forcing them to make realizations about themselves and their pasts.Susan Carlisle continues to draw me into her stories with multi-layered, likeable characters. My heart broke for the issues Elijah and Helena were desperately trying to overcome. While Christmas is in the title of the book, I didn’t really get a Christmas feel with the story. I wish that we got the opportunity to see Elijah interact with his parents after his revelation. I also wish there was an Epilogue. I would have loved to see how Helena and Elijah were as a true couple and how something important to Helena played out.**Received a copy from the author and voluntarily reviewed.**
