Title: Great for those who really want to see New York
Review: I'm a New Yorker, and I was looking for something to share with visiting friends and family and this guide really fits the bill. This was written by someone who really knows New York City. It's organized by neighborhood and will show you the best places to visit, eat and drink wherever you happen to go, plus it includes lists of the top music venues, craft beer bars, pizza places and so on. A great guide for visiting the City and seeing it the way the locals do. I found some new places in here that I can't wait to try myself. This is the best guide to use to plan your trip to New York.

Title: Best guide to New York written by a New Yorker!
Review: The Moon Guide to New York City is an excellent purchase for first time travelers to New York or even for long time New Yorkers like myself. I think the introduction with suggestions of what to do if you only have a week is well thought out and gives a great overall view of the city and what to do here. I love the walks and learned about a few places I didn’t know about and am anxious to visit. It is simple and easy to navigate. I also thought the ideas for what to do with kids are excellent. The maps are clear and extremely helpful with everything listed and shown on the same page. When I traveled to London I wish I had had as concise and organized a tour guide as this one. It has everything you could want to do and find out about: restaurants with price ranges, places you don’t want to miss and some out of the ordinary. There are many ideas of what to do and where to go: neighborhoods, sights, the arts, and nightlife. It’s a fascinating book and fun for all. I will make sure that my friends in Europe when visiting get one. I cherish the one I have and hope to explore recommended areas of the city I haven’t experienced yet!

Title: Good but . . .
Review: I bought the guidebook because I have a soft spot for Moon Guides from way back when. But now Moon Guides is owned by Hachette and the world is a much different place than when the Moon Guides were in their heydays.Guidebook itself is good. But now there is so much information available online that it isn't really necessary to get a guidebook for New York. I bought it and took it to New York and hardly used it. I saw a lot of tourists in New York and didn't see anyone holding a guidebook. Using a guidebook does save a bit of time because to go trawling the web for tourist information is actually very time consuming. But on the on other hand, if you do the research online then you are more able to customize the trip to your taste.

Title: This book will MAKE your NYC va(or Stay)cation
Review: Having just finished Christopher Kompanek’s book on New York City I can attest that it is an excellent resource for visitors and those of us who call the Big Apple home sweet home. Everything about this book is easy and accurate… although it is always good to do a little fact check before you go as rates change and improvements cause closures that cannot be predicted in a published text. Sometimes those changes are even for the better… they managed to cut the L train closures down to a minimum. However, every other need can be met with the help of this book. I found it chockfull with anecdotal information that help enrich mere sightseeing activities with culture and history. I could see taking any one of these adventures and I am New Yorker. The maps and directions were entirely accurate and easy to follow. Mr. Kompanek does a superb job covering the vast many choices New York has to offer from $-$$$ and off the beaten path as well as under the bright lights and bustle.

Title: Most Informative-Even for a New Yorker!
Review: This very informative guide book of New York City is one of the best I've ever read!I have lived in New York for over 20 years and there were things I didn't know about in this enlightening deep tour of New York. It is very well written, easily read, laid out very nicely like if you need to quickly look up (color coded) areas, restaurants, buildings etc.. and even has a pull out map!If you don't know a lot about New York City, this book covers absolutely everything and more and I would say a must have for an informative tourist who wants to dive deep into the neighborhoods and their history as well as for those who just want to see the known classic areas and be able to easily get around.Mr. Kompanek provides both a breadth of information about the city of both parts known and unknown without being overwhelming even the modern New Yorker would be impressed with this intuitive and educational guide.

Title: Perfect NYC insider's guide!
Review: As a native New Yorker who was looking for an updated city guide for friends mostly visiting from abroad, this was the best, most comprehensive, well-written NYC book I have ever seen. Organized by Neighborhoods (the only efficient way to cover the city) there are wonderful recommendations for walks, recreation, sights and shops from upscale to vintage to bargain. The NYC for Kids section was incredibly helpful for families who need to pace themselves with young ones. I wholeheartedly agree with the Top Ten Experiences and have added some unexplored Arts and Cultural Institutions to my weekend list. Food and restaurant recommendations, always crucial, were on-point and contained many of my favorites. It is impressive how the author has so succinctly and accurately encapsulated this amazing array of information in this one compact guide that contains anything and everything you need to know about NYC. Highly, highly recommend!

Title: Fantastic curated guide to NYC!
Review: This is a fantastic curated guide to NYC! Although some may question the necessity of a guidebook when there is a plethora of information online, this book makes an excellent case that it should be a primary resource, supplemented by Tripadvisor, etc. It's very easy to get "lost in the weeds" when planning online, and a native New Yorker like Chris Kompanek can help sift through the vast amount of information and wildly varying ratings/opinions that can bewilder the average trip planner. The book is very well written, organized nicely, and contains numerous valuable tips and insights. I lived in NY for over 10 years and still found it very useful. I'm planning on returning to NYC at the end of the year and have been using this book extensively. I highly recommend purchasing this book.
