Each episode is told in a journal format in four parts: "Best Friends in the Universe," "Best Friends in the Universe Forever and Ever," "Worst Friends in the Universe," and finally "Worst Secret Keepers in the Universe But Still Best Friends Forever and Ever."And Louie and Hector's comical dialogue will have kids howling!Louie: "I'm going to make up an ugly dance move called the Horrible Hector."Hector: "I'm going to invent a disgusting, rotten drink called the Icky Louie."Both: "That's it! This book is canceled."But just like most friendships, Hector and Louie find a way to stay best friends forever -- but maybe not the most trusted secret keepers!

Title: Fresh and funny book about the ups and downs of friendship
Review: I won this book at a conference and I'm so glad I did! The author has taken a fresh and fun approach to friendship and its ups and downs. Hector and Louie are writing a book together about being 'best friends in the universe". As their book takes shape, readers see these two friends make mistakes, fight, and make-up, all in a hilarious fashion. The illustrations are bright and fun, with a scribbly crayon feel that kids will love. Highly recommend!

Title: Best depiction of friendship I've read in a long time
Review: Most books that say "laugh out loud funny" in the blurb are not. This one is. It felt very true to life to boy friendships, especially, and I think every teacher and every parent of boys will recognize Hector and Louie. And will laugh out loud.

Title: Son loves it and it helps him realize it is ok if friends fight
Review: My 6 year old son is very choosy about what books to read at bedtime, but he likes this book because it reminds him of his best friend and how they argue sometimes. It sends a good message about friendship and forgiving your friends. It also features two friends from different backgrounds, which I feel is a good message for kids as well.

Title: Name calling, teasing and undesirable language
Review: I have to avoid the whole middle section of this book. Fortunately my son can’t quite read yet, so he doesn’t notice. The “best friends” tell each other’s secrets, call each other names like poopy pants and aren’t nice to each other. They make up in the end (spoiler alert) but I don’t want my son repeating the language, name calling and teasing.

Title: Best friends have to work through some issues
Review: Louie and Hector are best friends. They start telling readers all about their friendship in their book, but then some secrets slip out. Is their friendship (and the book) over?A good story about friendship and forgiveness. I didn't even realize the illustrator was LeUyen Pham till I read the back flap. This is a bit of a different style for her. Recommended for friends and those who like somewhat goofy stories.

Title:
Review: This book captures the bodacious love, hilarity and truth that comes with having a best friend. At the root of the books' best friends' silliness is the realization that friendship is about so much more than just the good times. A total joy from start to finish.
