This product has been developed specifically to soft start large single phase compressors and motors. It provides a dramatic reduction in the starting current but still provides full start torque. Fully self-contained in a conveniently small, double insulated and flame retardant enclosure.
The SS1B16-32SN is rated for 5-7 Ton HVAC units and below. Great for use with generator during an emergency or power outages during hurricane season!
Reduces locked rotor amperage (LRA)/inrush current up to 70% at start-up helping to eliminate light flicker and reduce start-up noise
Protects the compressor/motor from stalling at low voltages. Delay function limits number of motor starts per hour
Automatic optimization of motor start-up current, provides motor reversal protection during short power outages. Easy installation with supplied wiring.

Title: Better than expected
Review: Works great on my 4 ton unit. In addition to soft starting the compressor, the compressor kicks in about 1 second after the condensor fan. (Fan circuit left untouched). Much less load on everything. Lights in the house no longer dim when the system kicks on. Instructions are very straight forward if you have basic electrical knowledge.

Title: Gamechanger
Review: I had no idea these existed, our main ac unit would dim the lights when it cycled on, on normal power and the generator would really work hard when it cycled on. This device took my Ac guy 15 minutes to install for me, and it just plain works. The ac unit kicks on and off and not a light flickers or dims, on either power source. I don’t understand why these aren’t installed on new installations. If you look into them you can see the surge power is greatly reduced by using this item. Buy one for each unit you have you won’t regret it.

Title: Works great!
Review: So I was a bit intimidated about installing myself, but figures I’d try. It was easier than I expected and works great. The unit used make a pretty harsh clunk when it came on and now it just whirs a few seconds and then it’s up speed, doing it’s thing, Sounds so much healthier. My HVAC techs recommended a similar product but I self-installed to save money. I expect less wear and tear on the unit and while I haven’t tested the initial amp draw yet, I know it’s greatly improved just by the sound.

Title: Failed at first power outage
Review: Ran on brand new generator and failed leaving my AC down until I removed it. Less than 90 days in use.

Title: This should be standard equipment on all HVAC compressors
Review: Just installed on my outdoor compressor today. Initial impressions are positive. Works as advertised. Initial/existing startup peak amps were 61. After installation of Soft Start, peak startup amps 23. Very smooth, no surprises, no funny sounds, just like it's supposed to. Should make my whole house generator very happy.I admit I was a little intimidated doing the wiring myself. Did all the safety stuff first; turned off at thermostat, switched off power to inside HVAC system, and pulled the electrical box next to outside unit. A couple of the wiring instructions did not seem clear, but having schematic of existing unit inside the cover helped to clarify. The funny thing is the indoor portion of my HVAC system has a soft start built into the fan, which moves air thru the house. They do this for a low amp fan motor, but not the high amp outside compressor. Go figure. This should be standard eqpt on any HVAC compressor. Time will tell.

Title: Reduces the inflow surge as advertised
Review: Measured inflow at 103 amps prior to installation and recorded 33 amps afterward. Very pleased with the performance and easy install. Seems to be worth the money.

Title: Excellent product. Does the job exacty like it should.
Review: I bought this device to allow my HVAC start while on emergency generator. It significantly reduces startup current which commonly causes generator to stall. Works as expected.

Title: AMAZING!!!
Review: Application: 2 whole house heat pumps. one is 3.5 tonnes and other is 2.0. I wanted to drop the startup amps to run a smaller generator in case of power outage. And to prolong the life of the compressors.Pros:- easy to install-small can/must be mounted in covered area with other wiring/electronicscons:- possible loose connections (unlike other prewired units), they give you torque settings.- must mount under the cover ( might be an issue with smaller units) though I had no problem fitting it adjacent to factory electronics.Conclusion:Pre/post 54 amps down to 11.1amps for the 3.5 tonnes (81% reduction)54.8amps down to 5.1amps for the 2 ton unit (90%reduction)Amazing results. I had my reservations about the install as the wires did not come preinstalled to the unit. It was so simple. The first one took 30min as I was double checking the wiring diagram. Second one under 10 min as soon I understood the general layout of different compressor units. Unsure of longevity of units, but so far very pleased for price. I tried another unit from another company and couldnt get it to run.

Customers say

Customers like the functionality, light dimming, and surge current reduction of the air conditioner. They mention it works great, eliminates house light dimming, greatly reduces start-up amps, and is a good product. Some also say it's a good value for money. However, some customers disagree on the ease of installation and breaker power.
