It's the weird and wonderful as newly engaged couple Brad and Janet encounter a problem when their car halts in the rain. They both look for contact, only to find themselves at the castle of Dr. Frank-N-Furter, a transvestite. A place to stay is offered, but will Brad and Janet want to remain there? Especially when a large group of Transylvanians dance to the “Time Warp,” Dr. Frank-N-Furter builds his own man and a whole host of participation for the audience to enjoy.

Title: Movie Review
Review: âThe Rocky Horror Picture Showâ directed by Jim Sharman hit the screens in 1975 and has become a cult classic and a Halloween tradition for many ever since. Based on the 1973 musical the movie follows newly engaged couple Brad and Janet as they venture to celebrate with their old science teacher, Dr. Scott. The tale is narrated by a criminologist played by Charles Gray and follows Brad and Janet as they make their way to visit their past teacher. Quickly Brad and Janetâs plans get interrupted as a stormy night and a flat tire lead them to seek out a telephone to call for help. The couple ends up at the castle, Dr. Frank-N-Furter and are invited in by Riff Raff, Magenta, and Columbia. Once entering the castle Brad and Janet are in for the ride of their lives and a night of insanity ensues, ending with Brad, Janet, and Dr. Scott being left stumbling and confused in the wake of the castle lifting into space.Dr Frank-N-Furter played by Tim Curry, is a transvestite mad science from Transylvania and seeks to bring his perfect man âRockyâ played by Peter Hinwood, to life in a creation of Frankenstein type manner. Curry nails the role of Dr. Frank-N-Furter complete with the stocking and garter and lace of corset style top. His mannerisms are perfectly over the top and provides a juxtaposition to the demur and conservative Brad and Janet. He was successfully able to emote even through the intense and heavy make-up he wore. A favorite scene of mine is Dr. Frank-N-Furter screaming and chasing Rocky as he runs away while Rocky and the Transylvanians sing âSword of Damocles.â Rocky has just been brought to life and is having a crisis while Frank just wants to reap the benefits of his creation. All the songs of the film musical and catchy and well done. Starting with the opening of the Lips singing âScience Fiction/Double featureâ sung by Patricia Quinn which acts as a preview into the events of the film for the audience. The film then ends with the reprise of the same song, recapping the events of the movie that had just unfolded. Other favorite songs featured in the film include the classic âThe Time Warpâ, âSweet Transvestiteâ, and the uber catchy âTouch-a, Touch-a, Touch-a, Touch Me.â A particular favorite of mine is âThe Time Warp.â Not only is the song extremely catchy but the scene itself cuts between the current time and the criminologist in the future instructing the audience on the steps of the dance. Barry Bostwick and Susan Sarandon, who play Brad and Janet react perfectly to the vulgar dance moves and the over-the-top production of the number.Overall, the production, though in the 70âs, was elaborate. The sets with full of detail and the vibe of the castle perfectly captures what one would think a mad scientists dwelling would look like. The costuming was also done very well, which each character having a unique and well-thought-out look. The punk and rock style of the music very much seemed to influence the style of the costumes from the ripped stockings, glitter, and brightly colored make up and hair. The costume designer, Susan Blane had actually worked on the stage version of the production and many costumes used in the stage version were reused for the film as well.A big difference between the movie and the musical stage production is the lack of interaction from the audience. An in person musical version of Rocky Horror will have various audience interactions from yelling obscenities to throwing different objects around the theater. However, the film still does a great job at capturing the audienceâs attention. Rocky Horror Picture show is just fun. Itâs a film not meant to be taken too seriously and is perfectly campy and over the top in a way that just makes you smile and laugh while watching it. The catchy songs and slightly over dramatic dialogue make this movie a cult classic and one that has become a tradition in movie theatres around Halloween time.

Title: 25th Anniversary DVD Release (2000) MONO MIX!!!
Review: I was determined to obtain an upgrade from my old VHS 25th anniversary release. More for the original mono mix soundtrack than anything. The mono soundtrack seems to be included on all releases since, but since I don't plan to get a Blu-ray player anytime soon, if at all, this was the best and most deluxe option. The packaging is beautiful, with a high gloss surface and includes movie quotes and high quality photos on every surface. The picture quality is perfect for a DVD of this age. It was cleaned up well in the remastering. Nice crisp picture and bright colors. I'm grateful that it's presented in its original aspect ratio; no chopping off of the top and bottom or sides. I'm a firm believer in keeping films and music as original as possible (no stretched and distorted aspect ratios displayed on widescreen TVs for me).Which brings me to the mono mix soundtrack (accessed in the Language Selection option on the main menu). I'd been hearing bits and pieces of it in clips on the internet and I was intrigued. I always seek out original mono mixes of some of my favorite music, especially from the 1960's as 45 rpm singles. So, this was no different for me. If there was any way for me to obtain an old film print and a movie projector, I would have gone that unfeasible route. Viewing and listening to this film with its original mono mix is a whole different experience. More of the subtle sound effects and atmosphere seem to be more prominent than in the stereo mix. The more prominent echo of Frank's vocals at the beginning of Sweet Transvestite feels more...correct...because after all, they are in a big, old echoey vestibule by the stairs projecting towards the ballroom. Riff's vocal being the most prominent during the chorus of Time Warp is more quirky (and original!) than the overproduced stereo mix which has the vocal removed almost completely. The bass guitar in Time Warp and especially during Columbia's solo just punches you in the face. Again, it's gone in the stereo mix, or moved so far to the background that it's barely there. You can even pick up on other characters' individual vocals (Magenta, Columbia, etc.) throughout these and other songs that just don't seem to be there in the stereo mix. The mono mix just has a more punchier sound to it, as does most music that was originally intended as a mono mix. It's also a lot nicer to your 2-channel stereo speakers or TV speakers because the dialog and music are at a more even/equal volume as opposed to the stereo mix where much of the dialog and vocals are pushed to the background. Not much playing with the volume control is required compared to the stereo mix which can sound like your speakers will explode when the music kicks in. Not that I would give up on the "cleaner" stereo mix completely. It's very much a part of the history of the film being that it was how it was first released in an audio only format, and I'm all for keeping history intact. The mono soundtrack is just a new/old way for a lot of us to enjoy it if we're not old enough to have been around for its theatrical heyday, and for the ones who were there to experience it as they remember. I learned that it was a touchy subject among some "purists" during my internet research of the different mixes, which I guess I'm one of those purists. So, a big "thank you" to the big guys in charge for making the original mono mix soundtrack a permanent option now.The two discs are crammed with extras, enough to have kept me glued to the screen for days in any spare time I've had since I've received it. The commentary with Richard O'Brien and Patricia Quinn is fun and informative. Includes other options for enjoying the movie in new(er) ways (prompter for audience participation, "The Theatrical Experience" for viewing as you would in a theater, complete with audience participation and performers in front of the screen), a documentary, deleted scenes, long and enjoyable interviews of cast members, etc., etc. Just too much! Just enough!Unfortunately, the DVD-Rom extras for computers, which are supposedly games, trivia and more, don't seem to be compatible with Windows 7 and even XP. Either they're both just too new to run it ("requires Windows 95 or higher"), or my XP's DVD drive is failing. I just couldn't get it to run at all on the XP machine when other DVDs did work when testing it. The program did install to Windows 7 but only loaded to a blank screen. Though I was able to get deep into the files and retrieve the oh-so-90's, crude and fun screensaver. It's an image of Dr. Frank N Furter's castle with lightning bolts and flashes in the background and alternating movie quotes appearing on the screen.Other than that one minor drawback, the 25th Anniversary release is an awesome little package, worth owning for anyone not planning or not ready to upgrade to a Blu-ray player. Highly recommended.
