Every cookie makes a difference!

In December 2007, Gretchen Holt-Witt set the lofty goal of baking and selling 96,000 cookies during the holidays, all in the name of funding research for pediatric cancer, the #1 disease killer of kids in the United States and the disease her young son was battling. Armed with the determination of a mom on a mission plus the knowledge that funds for research mean more treatment options, better survival rates, and hope for the future, Holt-Witt succeeded in selling all 96,000 cookies and raising over $400,000 for new pediatric cancer treatments.

Long after the ovens cooled, requests for more cookies along with offers to help poured in. Gretchen knew she was onto something. She and her husband Larry answered the call to action by starting Cookies for Kids' Cancer (cookiesforkidscancer.org), a national non-profit that inspires people to host bake sales of all sizes, from desktops and porches to entire corporations and communities, with some raising more than $30,000 in one day. Cookies for Kids' Cancer went on to partner with The Glad Products Company, inspiring thousands of individuals with Glad's promise to match funds raised at bake sales. The partnership has received attention from Martha Stewart, CNN, Parade, Redbook, Ladies Home Journal, Woman's Day, O The Oprah Magazine, the Today show, and more.

With experience, passion, heart, and great stories from bake sale hosts, this cookbook was created to inspire more bake sales as well as directly benefit this amazing charity. 100% of the author's proceeds and royalties will be donated to Cookies for Kids' Cancer for pediatric cancer research. The recipes include easy-to-prepare treats for cookies, brownies, bars, cupcakes, quick breads, and more. In addition, there are tips on starting your own bake sale and inspirational quotes and stories throughout the book.

Title: Great Recipes + Good Cause = Can't Go Wrong!
Review: Recipes are are certainly easy to come by these days given the internet, but it is really refreshing to have an actual book to look at ! Sometimes, you just want to page through something in your hand, and what a colorful and beautiful book to do just that with. The recipes are scrumptious - everything from basic to more interesting cookie/bar/brownie options. The fact that the proceeds from this book will benefit Cookies for Kids' Cancer make it so worthwhile! Makes a terrific gift for anyone (along with the Oxo Good Cookies spatula that another reviewer suggested) - and Christmas is right around the corner.Thank you, Gretchen, for continuing to spread awareness about pediatric cancer and the lack of funding available to children afflicted with cancer.

Title: A cookbook with heart!
Review: As the Mom of an 8-year old daughter who really enjoys to bake I found this book to be a wonderful addition to our kitchen library. There are so many baking/cooking books 'out there' but this book just called to us...both. The recipes are fabulous, but that's not even the best of it. The pictures... the stories... not only do I get to bake with my daughter and enjoy our special time together. But she gets to learn so much. This book has given her an awareness she may never have known. She brought it to 'show & tell' to share the book [and more importantly it's awareness] with her teacher and classmates & she's already planning a BAKE SALE to help raise money for the very neccesary cause of COOKIESFORKIDSCANCER. Indeed this is a most wonderful cooking book that sweetens ones life in so many beautiful ways. (By the way, my Christmas shopping is near complete as I have purchased this for family/friends, my daughters teachers & sport coaches!)

Title: What a sweet, sweet book
Review: If you just read the intro to the book, you'll want to buy it, if for nothing else than the help the wonderful Cookies for Kids' Cancer organization. But don't let that be the only reason. Sure, you should read the story of how this amazing mom simply would NOT accept the harsh reality that pediatric cancer research gets virtually NO funding. You could get mad, but instead, you should be inspired. Inspired by her example, and the example set by literally thousands of others, to do something about it, and hold a bake sale. And that's where the book really comes in handy. It showcases some of the great bake sales this charity has inspired, both big and small (and no bake sale is small!) and gives invaluable tips and ideas. But the real gems are the recipes, which are foolproof and wonderful. There's something for everyone, from chocoholics to sugar cookie lovers.Just on a practical level, love the spiral binding so the book stays open while baking. The book also makes a great gift for the baker in your life. How many books inspire, do good (proceeds to charity) and give you awesome recipes? Not many!

Title: Best cookbook I've read!
Review: How many cookbooks inspire you to actually be a better person and want to affect change in the world? In all the cookbooks I've ever used, flipped through, added to my own collection, not one has made me want to do something for others the way this book does! The recipes are amazing (I've made a number of them in the few weeks I've had the cookbook), the pictures are beautiful (the photos and layout of the cookbook are incredible), and the stories and personal reflections honestly made me cry. Gretchen and team truly outdid themselves with this cookbook! Everyone who likes to bake, loves to eat baked goods, and/or wants to help raise necessary funding for pediatric cancer research needs to pick up a copy and add it to their library of cookbooks! It makes a great gift too!!!

Title: bake sale hints and cookbook
Review: I liked this book because it had some good ideas on how to have a bake sell. I would suggest this book to people who are going to have a bake sell and to people that may like some of the recipes in the book.

Title: LOVE IT!
Review: We checked this book out from our local library and renewed it until we couldn't renew it anymore. That is when we bought a used copy from Amazon! My daughter (10 at the time) was just learning how to bake and cook and really enjoyed picking recipes from this cookbook to make. We have made several and have never been disappointed in the outcome!I also loved the story behind how the cookbook came about. I also really enjoyed reading all of the stories within of kids and groups that have supported Cookies for Kids' Cancer through their own bake sales. There is definitely a personal side to this cookbook that you don't find in most, and I loved that aspect of it!Definitely should be in everyone's collection!

Review: I purchased this for my mother who does a lot of baking for different bake sales. The proceeds going to pediatric cancer research convinced me to overcome our ban on mom's recipe book collection, and with every recipe tuned for bakesales I know she'll enjoy everything in this book. I was tempted myself when looking through it after receiving.
