Review: I use these for my middle school students. They have to do a certain number of biographical assignments (for composers/musicians) for me each marking period, and, if they don't have computer access in class or at home, I give them one of these to find the necessary information.

Title: Not what I thought
Review: I had misunderstood the complete package offered with this book. I originally thought there were quizzes with the biographies as other books offer, but they were simply the biographies. In order to teach the subject, it would be helpful to have quizzes over the individual composers as well as the periods of music shown at the back.

Title: Info about classical composers
Review: I am very disappointed in the book. I may not have observed but I did not see where it stated it was recommended for grades five and up. I have some younger children in the first through fourth grade and this is too advanced even for the parent to read to the child. I understood there was a CD which I did not realize it was a data CD with PDF files. I understood the book was reproducible but I thought you just copied the book pages.I was under the assumption the CD was short excerpts of the composers works that the children could listen to and become familiar with the music style. I have not made the decision as to whether I plan to return the book or just keep it. It is a little pricey for its quality. The only reason I may keep the book is that I cannot find a better replacement. I would like to see Alford music come out with a composer bios that accompany their classic books for beginning pianio students I do appreciate the pronunciation guide for the composers.The book does have good information for older students. The data cd will make it more convenient for preparing copies for distribution. I probably would not have been disappointed if I had understood the description. I was just expecting more. I recommend the composer revise his description of the book.

Review: I use this as an introduction to composers with my music students.It's a great, consice one page of information that they can understand.Having 50 composers is nice, you get to see someone besides Mozart & Bach.
