On November 22, 1963, three shots rang out in Dallas, President Kennedy died, and the world changed. What if you could change it back?

In this brilliantly conceived tour de force, Stephen King - who has absorbed the social, political, and popular culture of his generation more imaginatively and thoroughly than any other writer - takes listeners on an incredible journey into the past and the possibility of altering it.

It begins with Jake Epping, a 35-year-old English teacher in Lisbon Falls, Maine, who makes extra money teaching GED classes. He asks his students to write about an event that changed their lives, and one essay blows him away: a gruesome, harrowing story about the night more than 50 years ago when Harry Dunning’s father came home and killed his mother, his sister, and his brother with a sledgehammer. Reading the essay is a watershed moment for Jake, his life - like Harry’s, like America’s in 1963 - turning on a dime.

Not much later his friend Al, who owns the local diner, divulges a secret: his storeroom is a portal to the past, a particular day in 1958. And Al enlists Jake to take over the mission that has become his obsession - to prevent the Kennedy assassination.

So begins Jake’s new life as George Amberson, in a different world - of Ike and JFK and Elvis, of big American cars and sock hops and cigarette smoke everywhere. From the dank little city of Derry, Maine (where there’s Dunning business to conduct), to the warmhearted small town of Jodie, Texas, where Jake falls dangerously in love, every turn is leading, eventually of course, to a troubled loner named Lee Harvey Oswald and to Dallas, where the past becomes heart-stoppingly suspenseful - and where history might not be history anymore. Time-travel has never been so believable. Or so terrifying.

Title: I love this book!!
Review: I first bought this book when I saw it in the store, loved it and bought it for my kindle, I have read it many many times, I just love the feeling of the 50's, the tastes and smells, the trustful way of life, the hats on men and hats and gloves on women. This book takes me to this time and place. There were many bad things in those times too and gladly we are more aware now.I watched the mini series on Hulu (not true to the book), and now have the audio book as well. We have come a long way but I just love to go back to the 50's for a little vacation when girls were modest, boys pants covered their underwear and meat had flavor. The story of changing time and stopping the assassination of JFK could have been a much shorter book, but taking us back to live in another time is what makes this book so great. I will read it many more times, listen to it in my car when taking long drives to visit family, and enjoy every minute of my time back in a less complicated and angry time.

Title: First Stephen King book
Review: This is my first Stephen King book. I thought the book was ok. I’m not big on time- traveling. The story was interesting, but it was a bit boring in some places. I think the writing itself was excellent! I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to read a Stephen King book.

Review: As usual King bats this one out of the park. The narrator is awesome. The story is great and the characters are good.

Review: I am not an avid Stephen King reader. In fact, this is the only novel I've read from King. I am however a JFK Assasination history buff.I've read this book once... And listened to the audiobook twice. It is excellent. I'm not a fan of every part of the ending. To avoid spoiler alerts I won't mention any specifics.Craig Wasson was amazing!

Title: Good narrator but got a little grossed out
Review: The narrator is a talented actor. Was grossed out when he was reading the sex scenes with Sadie “oh sugar, oh sugar,” etc., because he sounds like an older guy and Grandpa acting out an orgasm really bugged me.
