Title: Great for Cross Curriculum
Review: This is a story about a little boy who is the smallest in his class. His teacher has the class guess how many seeds are in each pumpkin. The story covers math topics like counting by 2's, 5's, and 10's, multiplication, and identifying evens and odds. The students use these various concepts to find the total. Then the teachers goes on to list important facts and features of pumpkins. It's very educational there is absolutely no reference to Halloween or Jack-o-lanters which is a exactly what I was looking for. Not only is this book packed full of information and opportunities to see math in action but it also ends with a great message about not judging things on their outward appearance. Great things can come from small things.

Title: Highly recommend for a parent with a young curious mind!
Review: I love this book! It has so much to offer for a curious child. I bought it for my soon-to-be 3 year old son after we checked it out via the library and wanted a copy for our home. It has counting, visual stimulation, size variation, as well as helps little Charlie (the smallest kid in class) find confidence and a quiet pride about being the littlest! (No, my son is actually tall for his age but I like him to know that all sizes are great!) I recommend this for anyone who loves to read to their child and likes to have sneaky little learning moments tucked into each page! Seriously a great book for any child 2-7 years old!

Title: Great book to teach early scientific concepts
Review: I bought this for my 7-year-old at Halloween as we planned on estimating the number of seeds in the pumpkins before we carved them. We estimated, then read the book, then estimated again. This was a great way to teach her the ways of making more accurate estimates, as she actually enjoyed the story.

Title: Lives up to expectations and then some
Review: I have heard so much about this book. It does all it promises and more. There are several math concepts put into practice by the students in the story. Showing readers the application of math concepts covered in class is wonderful. Estimating, counting by 2s, 5s and 10s. Placing things in order. This book gets you wondering, Are there the same number of kernels on a cob regardless of the size? I plan to buy three sizes and investigate that soon.

Title: EXCELLENT book
Review: We found this book in our local library and bought it through Amazon. This is an EXCELLENT book. The other reviews are thorough; however, I think it is interesting to note that the main character's best friend, Alex, is a girl (which was a nice "surprise" for our son). Additionally, there are some great learning opportunities (math - as indicated by a previous reviewer) including some "life lessons" (particularly about being short) and some interesting information about pumpkins (I learned quite a bit myself!). Our kids love this book...and so do we! 🙂

Title: Very useful book for kids in primary grades.
Review: You can do a lot with this book. It went over well when I read it to my grandson's third grade class. Good for home or classroom use. Reinforces skip counting, and teaches that "things are not always what they seem" and "if you want to find out, perform an experiment."

Title: Great addition to your fall book collection!
Review: This is a great book for 4+. This book really resonated with my young children- being the smallest is sometimes hard and that really clicked with them from the first reading. They really identified with that theme and loved all of the counting and sorting entailed in this book. This is a keeper for our fall book collection.

It was such a great story and there is even a lesson on learning to appreciate oneself. I can’t say enough about this book! Every primary teacher needs a copy!

Review: This book is a great resource for pumpkin themed math.* It shows a class using skip counting to count pumpkin seeds more efficiently. It is also a nice self esteem booster for the little ones, as emphasizes that small things can be great. I read it to my students and then we estimate and count the seeds in a variety of pumpkins in small groups. Some students literally jump up and down with excitement as they skip count in this activity.*I do Pumpkin Week the last week of October and this is the final math lesson. We use the pumpkins all week for various math, language arts, and physical education activities, and then cut them up on Friday.
