Shoe is the everyday story of motley crew of newspapermen, all of whom are birds. Originally written and drawn by its creator, triple Pulitzer Awarding winning cartoonist Jeff MacNelly from September 13, 1977 until his death in 2000 where it was continued by Chris Cassatt, Gary Brookins and Jeff's wife Susie MacNelly.
The strip won MacNelly two National Cartoonist Society's Reuben Awards in 1978 and 1979.
Triple Pultizer prize winning cartoonist, the first ever.
"MacNelly's editorial cartoons were magic [. . .] I wish I could say just what combination of graphic mastery, writing skill and sheer perversity goes into Jeff's work. I can't, but when people say Jeff has a special perspective on the world, they are engaging in heroic understatement." - Jack Fuller Chicago Tribune

Title: Would have preferred more Jeff MacNelly and less of his replacements.
Review: Well-edited collection of _Shoe_ newspaper comic strips, presented in a sturdy hardcover book with a solid binding, printed on quality paper, with excellent, clear reproduction values. The artwork is well-drawn throughout and the jokes are funny._Shoe_ was originally a wry commentary on life in our world from the point of view of a cartoon crow, employed as a newspaper journalist, whose editorial office was located in a tree. _Shoe_ was originally written and drawn by Jeff MacNelly, an award-winning newspaper political cartoonist. By the time MacNelly died and was replaced by his assistants, newspapers, journalism in general, and the world itself had changed radically. Therefore, I would have preferred more pages devoted to pre-2000 Jeff MacNelly comic strip work and fewer pages devoted to post-2000 strips written and drawn by those who replaced him after he died.If you are a _Shoe_ fan or generally like comic strips, this book will appeal to you. If you are specifically interested in Jeff MacNelly's work, you'll find a lot of it in here. But be aware that this collection is edited to give the same emphasis to each year of the strip, resulting in a book with significant space devoted to work done after MacNelly's death by his assistants.

Review: Interesting, in that it covered decades of history, and brought back many memories, but it never truly captured my attention, and when I got to the end, and some of the cartoons were repeated (for whatever reason) it just lost me.
