Review: Great book. I absolutely love the combination of a fascinating topic, great, sparky writing and a ridiculous level of knowledge. I had to take a break by page 12 just to mull over everything I’d already learned. Like a proper steak - highly nutritious, tasty and enjoyable.

Review: It takes a certain level of skill to condense years of research and experience, and clearly a lifetime of fascination and adoration into a coherent narrative. Tim Hayward has that skill, and I envy him immensely.Thankfully this engagingly written and superbly illustrated guide, history, maybe love letter to to beef consumption provides some morsel of comfort. While it’s unlikely I’ll ever write anything this good, at least I can draw solace from the vast improvement in my steak cookery. You should buy “Steak”. You should enjoy it for what it is, a wonderfully engaging journey to a better culinary place, with a gorgeously tactile cover. Oh yes! It’s a book you can feel, as well as read. I haven’t tried licking it, but given the attention to detail I wouldn’t be surprised if it turned out to be the carnivorous version of Wonka’s lickable wallpaper. In short… it’s a heck of a book.

Review: Fuller, richer, with great bone structure, this book is even better than I’d hoped. Great writing, pictures, recipes, stories. I don’t even eat much steak but it’s a joy to read and to savour for when I shall.
