Title: mmmmm, Not sure if itâs the book or if itâs me
Review: Iâm not totally sold on this book nor am I totally turned against it. Iâm making sour dough starter for the first time and itâs proving difficult. This book calls for unbleached flour but doesnât mention anything about using whole wheat or rye flours that some other sources have mentioned. I find that using a whole wheat flour gets more action during the fermentation process and doesnât produce a product that is as liquid as using all purpose flour. Not sure why this isnât mentioned if these authors are such pros.I also attempted to make my first loaf of sour dough bread. It was okay, but not great. Iâm thinking that either my starter isnât ripe enough or they donât call for enough starter in their recipes. Iâve seen recipes that call for a lot more.

Review: ..this book truly is a big disappointment to me, because it has barely a pictures !! On 165 pages you find exact 6 pictures of bread that relate to a recipe!! So, its a text collection of breads for beginners that have a strong imagination!! This is so disappointing . Why is it called a book for BEGINNERS then when there is no visual support? For me, photos of the results of the recipes in a cooking or baking book play the most important role. I donât want to have to imagine or google first, what the bread or the result should look like in the end. All over the world, optics play a major role in food. What does the food look like on the table. Presentation matters. You eat with your eyes too. And a picture says a lot more than words. We all know these phrases and I always ask myself who are these authors who put together a bland âcookbookâ whose content consists only of text and which is not at all inviting and appealing?! And Why are they not making a nice book out of it , full of colorful invitations to start out immediately? They ARE people of creativity, thats for sure, because they make food! Its so sad and therefore I can not recommend to buy it. I wish I would have known before. I would never buy a baking book without pictures if I knew it in advance. Never. The biggest help for a beginner aside of correct measurements IS A FOTO! And yes, its about bread, but not all breads look the same. So a baking book without fotos is boring to me. Ask yourselfâ¦even when you google a recipe, you will look at the Foto first, right?
