NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • A guide to managing inflammation and pain with 125+ recipes proving that you don’t need to sacrifice delicious food to eat healthfully and be pain free, from celebrity chef and The Chew co-host Michael Symon
IACP AWARD FINALIST • “Michael fixed himself with irresistible recipes that just happened to be healthy. Now you can enjoy healing yourself as well.”—Mehmet Oz, MD, attending surgeon, New York-Presbyterian/Columbia University
When Michael Symon found out he had rheumatoid arthritis and external lupus, he suspected that what he ate—or didn’t eat—could make a profound difference in his levels of inflammation and how he felt. So he committed to a food “reset” on The Chew—no red meat, white flour, sugar, dairy, or alcohol.
Michael used social media to share his experiment with his fans, and was shocked by the outcome: after completing the reset, he felt amazing. He discovered that dairy, sugar, and processed flours are his food triggers, and that by avoiding them, his inflammation essentially vanished.
Michael came up with more than 125 recipes to satisfy his cravings without aggravating his body, including Ginger and Chile-Roast Chicken, dairy-free Mac and Cheese, Spaghetti Squash with Arugula Pesto, and Apple and Cherry Oat Crisp, among many others. Now, for the first time, he is sharing these recipes, as well as a guide on how to identify your food triggers and create a meal plan that works around whatever ingredient causes your discomfort so that you too can enjoy incredible food without sacrificing your health.
From the Publisher
Grilled Skirt Steak with Cherry-Balsamic Sauce
Skirt steak has such an intensely beefy flavor and satisfying texture. In place of the customary butter-enriched pan sauce, I use the leftover marinade to create a quick, light sauce that gets sweetened and zip from cherry juice and balsamic.
Flaxseed-Crusted Salmon with a Grape and Walnut Salsa
I’m not sure you could design a recipe healthier than this dish—this one truly has it all, from good fats to protein, and fiber to antioxidants. Equally important is the fact that it’s effortless to make and tastes amazing.
Roasted Vegetable Mac and Cheese
I labored to come up with a recipe that will scratch that comfort-food itch while steering clear of cheese. And that’s what I’ve done here by using my Dairy-Free Parmesan. Prepare to be blown away!

Title: Great recipes that are making us feel great!
Review: We are a couple following this plan together. We are on day 6 and so far itâs much better than expected.Looking through the recipes in advance, I thought we each would have challenges with the menu,l but so far we have enjoyed most all recipes. Some of these will go in to our regular rotation. We started this âfix itâ to try to break a cycle of eating whatever sounded good, rather than what we need. This is helping break those cycles.ProThe meals are very tasty and healthy.Recipes are simple and well described (weâve felt confident with ingredients we have avoided in the past). We are having fun planning and cooking together. The meals are filling (which was unexpected). The meals have opened our minds to enjoying foods that one or the other of us did not previously like, as well as a different (for us) macro ratio. We have each seen a little weight loss, which wasnât a specific goal.ConSome ingredients were a challenge to locate, and can be pricey. There are no suggestions for reintroducing some foods after day 10. (We donât want to slip all the way back to bad habits that we are breaking.)Iâd love to see nutritional information in the book.Even though Iâm giving it 4 stars, I highly recommend this book. We are sticking with the plan through day 10, we will be using additional recipes in the book, and several recipes will go on to our rotation.Thank you, Michael Symon for this book!Update 3 weeks since starting using this book: We are still following the Fix It with Food recipes for the vast majority of our meals and we've each lost a few pounds and are feeling better. I'm upping the stars from 4 to 5 - the pros significantly outweigh the cons. Even if you don't need to follow an anti-inflammatory approach, the recipes are quite good!

Title: Mind blown.
Review: I have been an adventurous omnivore home cook and baker since I was 8. Because of some stomach issues, when I saw an interview with Symon about this book, I wanted to try it.On the first day of the plan, I thought it was weird to feel full in an entirely different way. A day or so later, I pulled eggs nestled in greens out of the oven and thought Iâd never seen eggs look better. Iâm on day 6 and food has never tasted so goodâand I love food. As a busy mom, I definitely have to think aheadâbutternut squash in the slow cookerâbut spending a little more time on my own meals has added to this experience. Food feels nourishing again instead of just filling.I almost donât want to add anything back after the 10 days because it has been such a paradigm shaker: Food can be flavorful and creative and nourishing. This is the first time Iâve ever tried a âfixâ and havenât felt deprived. I love the grocery list. I love turning the pages one day at a timeâno need to conjure some idea for dinner. Chefâs kiss! So good.

Title: Delicious recipes.
Review: I ordered the spiral bound despite it being more expensive but if I see a spiral itâs a guaranteed purchase. So far the recipes are easy and delicious. I love eating whole foods and had backslid big time. Just starting but I already feel better and have more energy. While Michael is very clear this not a recipe book to lose weight I will lose some based on the way I was eating.

Title: Great concept but time consuming.
Review: This is a mom here. First off, I like the recipes in this book because they are easy to follow, there is a shopping list, and great pictures. But, the 4 stars is because I don't see how a 45 minute to a hour is realistic to make breakfast. Day 2 is Steel-cut oats breakfast and it took almost an hour to make. So, my recommendation would be to take a week off to do the 10 day reset. When I was working I was lucky if I ate breakfast as all.The great thing is the recipes are easy to tweak. So some of the recipes I added honey or changed up the vegetable. I am using this book more as a guide than a direct word for word recipe book. I'm currently a stay at home mom so the time thing doesn't bother me now but when I go back to work there will be alot more meal preparation if I'm to follow this book.

Title: These recipes will make you feel better inside and out
Review: I got this book to try the 10 day fix and I have continued to use it for the additional recipes. I love almost every recipe I've made from it. The actual 10 day menu is full of simple but very tasty recipes. After the 10 days, I could feel the effects of the clean eating. I never got hungry between meals and I lost the full, bloated feeling I tend to have from eating too much carbs and probably dairy. I lost some weight too. I asked my doctor about the quantities of olive oil because I'm not used to using so much and she gave the go ahead, likening it a Mediterranean diet. Lastly, I love the fake parmesan cheese recipe. It's a new staple in my house and if you can't have dairy or are just trying to cut back, it's a great substitution.

Title: Love, love, love this book
Review: The recipes are delicious! The 10 day reset is extremely effective. Each meal is filling and satisfying. The only draw back is the prep time for each recipe. Cooking 3 full meals everyday takes a lot of time. Perhaps prepping all veggies at the beginning of the week may help. The recipes are well written and true to the instructions. Cooking times are spot on and each one turned out just like the picture. The only things we did not like were the smoothies, and thatâs just a texture issue. We are not fans of drinking our food. Was never really a Michael Symon fan until I saw his youtube videos from his home. His approach to cooking is effortless, yet delicious. Learned a lot from watching him and really enjoy the book.

Title: Well written. Lots of fodmap foods tho
Review: A very beautiful and well written book but the recipes include a lot of high fodmap and inflammatory foods. So not for someone who needs a purely anti-inflammatory recipe source of information . If you are good with substitution then youâll be fine. Unfortunate for me it wasnât a good fit for my needs.

Review: Bought this book two weeks ago, and have already cooked about 10 of the recipes. They are easy to make, flavourful, and my inflammation (due to rheumatoid arthritis) is essentially gone! This book has been a life changer for me!

Review: I bought 4 low histamine cookbooks to see which was best for vegetarians. This one would be higher but... itâs not actually low histamine. Lesson learned- anti inflammatory and low histamine are different! I ate the recipes for 10 days and there are really great vegetarian (but not vegan) options here, but thereâs also a lot of recipes with eggs, tomatoes, aubergines, spinach, lemon juice and mushrooms... so youâd have to make some adaptations. But I think you could do that. FYI I use a food tracker and noticed most meals in the reset plan are about 500-600 calories each (even breakfast), and macros are about 35-45% fats (he goes heavy on the olive oil) which is higher than I normally eat. But I have to say I felt really satiated with these recipes - they were all pretty good.

Review: My husband and I have been cooking and eating from this book for just over a week and everything is so good - there hasn't been one miss. Recipes are easy to follow, not a ton of ingredients. It's been very enjoyable.

Review: I am a fan of the author but the title is a bit deceptive as this is really just a gluten free cookbook with âsimpleâ food thatâs really not simple. I didnât expect him to give medical advice of course but it was disappointing overall.
