CLASSIC CANADIAN BACON AND CHEDDAR SANDWICH

A CLASSIC BREAKFAST SANDWICH, JUST LIKE THE FAMOUS FAST-FOOD VERSION, MADE IN THE COMFORT OF YOUR HOME WITH YOUR CHOICE OF QUALITY INGREDIENTS

Preheat breakfast sandwich maker.

Place one English muffin half, split side up, in bottom ring of sandwich maker. Top with cheese and bacon.

Lower the cooking plate and top ring. Lightly spray the plate with cooking spray, then crack the egg into the ring. Pierce top of egg yolk with a toothpick or plastic fork. Season with salt and pepper (if using). Place the other muffin half, split side down, on top of the egg.

Gently close the cover and cook for 4 to 5 minutes or until egg is cooked to your liking. Rotate cooking plate away from sandwich maker and lift rings. Use a plastic or nylon spatula to remove the sandwich. Serve immediately.

VARIATION

Use 2 egg whites, instead of the whole egg, if you are looking to reduce your cholesterol intake. The yolk contains most of the fat and cholesterol, but keep in mind that it also supplies most of the nutrients, such as vitamins A and D, phosphorus, folate and calcium.

TIP

You may know Canadian bacon as back bacon, which is what it is called in many parts of the world. It is actually more similar to ham than to bacon, as it is much leaner and is cut from the loin. This type of bacon is fully cooked. If you want to use peameal bacon (cornmeal-crusted cured pork loin), you will need to cook it before adding it to the sandwich maker.

Review: EASY PEASY RECIPES ==WITH== OR ==WITHOUT== the breakfast maker. I DO NOT HAVE A SANDWICH MAKER .... BUT, I just ordered one, so go figure. I really do want to see how that works. I have my reservations about that apparatus after looking at reviews, but I'm going to bite the bullet and try it for myself. The recipes in this book are just pure and simple. No ingredients that I need to fly to China for, and that's a PLUS in my book. I'm terrified of flying. LOTS of recipes to test out, so I love the book either way.

If your going to make a recipe book remember to add pictures of the finished product. Review: I love this book. It has so many delicious breakfast egg sandwich ideas - from classic to gourmet. However, this book has so much more & turns the breakfast sandwich maker into a a versatile cooking tool. The cookbook has recipes for burgers and pizzas and a whole chapter devoted to desserts & snacks and there is a kid-friendly chapter too. It also has chapters for gluten-free cooking and for vegetarian lovers. Not all recipes include bread and not all recipes include egg. I would never have considered using the breakfast sandwich maker in so many creative ways and this book provides easy to follow instructions to make a meal in minutes. And, most importantly, the recipes I've tried so far are fantastic! And I definitely have a long list of ones I will be trying. With 150 recipes there are a lot to choose from.The breakfast sandwich maker and this book combined make a terrific gift at a very reasonable price. It's great for a college student, a family with busy activity schedules that are looking for quick & healthy individualized meals in minutes or anyone looking for easy & fast healthy meals in minutes (I'm 50+ and no kids).
