A journalist on a cross-country Christmas train scales the rugged terrain of his own heart in this New York Times bestselling holiday tale that inspired the Hallmark Hall of Fame original movie!
Disillusioned journalist Tom Langdon must get from Washington to Los Angeles in time for Christmas. Forced to travel by train, he begins a journey of rude awakenings, thrilling adventures, and holiday magic. He has no idea that the locomotives pulling him across America will actually take him into the rugged terrain of his own heart, as he rediscovers people's essential goodness and someone very special he believed he had lost.
David Baldacci's THE CHRISTMAS TRAIN is filled with memorable characters who have packed their bags with as much wisdom as mischief...and shows how we do get second chances to fulfill our deepest hopes and dreams, especially during this season of miracles.

Title: Great feel good book
Review: Baldacci is, by far, my second favorite writer. No 1 is John Ross. Unintended Consequences.Baldacci just has a way with keeping the reader wanting more. This is one of his "feel good" books.Just like "Wish you well".I read both these books because I've read a majority of his other books.

Title: Cozy read to start your holiday season right
Review: {3.5/5}Though it took me a few chapters to really get into this book, The Christmas Train was a truly captivating, fun holiday read! Filled with love, mystery, adventure, heartbreak, & wisdom this was a lovely & easy read!Langdon goes through a lot of self- discovery and realistic character development while meeting many unique characters along the way. I really enjoyed getting to know all the characters on the train and loved how the author made me feel like I was onboard with everyone. This has actually inspired me to take my own railroad adventure someday! The author did an outstanding job setting the locations and keeping the reader constantly surprised! There was always something happening on the train, and I was happily surprised with how mysterious this read wound up being. Plus the romance in this was delightful! While I found this to be cozy and wintery for sure, I donât know if I really felt the Christmas spirit/magic until the very end. The ending was quite unexpected, everything youâd want from a holiday read and even made me rethink everything that had happened in such a fun way! I just wouldâve liked to have felt more of that holiday magic throughout the entire book. I think this wouldâve made for a better read in the beginning of the holiday season rather than days before Christmas, but thatâs just me!Bonus: this read comes with TWO short stories in the back, including a touching 4 page story called âWaiting for Santaâ which is about an angel who helps a man dealing with the loss of his family. This was definitely a fun, easy read! I would recommend it for the beginning of the holiday season to anyone looking for a little mystery, drama, & romance to start the season off right!

Title: Fantastic Seller (and I'm Forever a Baldacci Fan)
Review: For the sake of this review, I'm focusing on the seller. I received the book faster than expected and in pristine condition. It was packaged perfectly: wrapped to avoid scratches and fitted into a box to avoid folding or denting any edges. Plus, the package included additional information about the seller's bookstore which I found very nice. I would absolutely purchase from this seller. As for the book, David Baldacci can do little wrong in my opinion. I loved the movie, so I read the book, and, as expected, his storytelling made it even better. It's a great Christmas read!

Title: This Train Dragged
Review: The book was a little slow for me; it took me a bit to settle into David Baldacciâs writing style. The author has a propensity for giving history lessons at any given moment. So instead of writing âtheyâd just cleared Harperâs Ferry,â it was instead, âtheyâd just cleared Harperâs Ferry, West Virginia, a place immortalized when John Brown made his famous raid on the federal armory prior to the Civil Warâs commencing, and went to the gallows as his price for being in the history books.â I donât mind learning things here and there, but, for me, the history moments broke up the flow of what was happening in the present. Although I do understand there were times when the author explained things so that the reader would understand the context when later comments were made. One thing that did help me was once I realized that the novel was originally published in 2002 (I originally thought it came out this year). I find that books Iâve read that came out before the frenetic nature of smart phones and social media have a different pace/tone, which I can appreciate. I also appreciate the authorâs humor, which is a bit dry at times and always good-natured.For me, the story landed on the sappy side. It took me awhile to read it because I would read for a little while and then stop because it didnât hold my interest. The book did add a little intensity with a snowstorm, but that didnât happen until 69% (by my Kindle count), which was 206 pages in. I know that The Christmas Train is now a Hallmark movie. I think I would enjoy it more as a film because I can see how some of the charactersâ larger-than-life personas would bode well for a TV movie. If you donât mind stories that are a bit syrupy sweet and are looking for something light to put you in the Christmas spirit, I think youâll enjoy this book.

Title: Entertaining Holiday Reading
Review: I was not rivetted to the book as I was reading it for Book Club. However, it was an enjoyable easy read with a definite Christmas and folksy emphasis. There were many interesting characters to follow, with a love-sick main character, Tom, taking a train ride, hoping to meet up in California with his "friend with benefits" for some cavorting in Tahoe anticipated. He finds that he has a distant connection to Mark Twain (Samuel Clemons) who also reportedly took a Christmas train ride. Tom is an internationally acclaimed writer and has promised his dying father that he will write a story about a Christmas Train ride to honor Twain.. But on the train his current girlfriend finds him and he also finds a long lost love who has obviously never forgiven him. The train has some minor and major problems that slows it down. And some of the characters are revealed as not being who they say they are nor for what purpose they are on the train. The overall plot was predictable, but numerous surprises kept the book interesting and enjoyable.

Review: I had first watched the movie a while ago and, well, it was disappointing. Despite the fancy lineup of famous actors, the story was slow-moving and plain boring... This year, I thought I'd give the book a chance in the hope that much of the excitement had been lost in the script adaptation... But sadly, it turned out to be quite the same experience. Boredom galore and a tedious writing style. So, despite the beautiful cover, it failed to deliver on its promise of a feel-good, magical holiday tale.
