Title: Great RPG for Sci-Fi and Alien fans.
Review: This is such a great book, amazing art work, and decently written. This game allows you to play cinematic (1-shot) or campaign. Purchased all the books so I can stream a 1 shot on YouTube. If successful I will try turn that into a campaign.

Title: Unmatched quality
Review: A brilliant game system. A much needed dose of quality writing. The artwork and book quality is top tier. The year zero engine that Alien RPG utilizes is perfect for the space horror of the setting. A system that can be fairly simple or deeply complex depending on your party.

Title: In Space No-one Can Hear you Scream
Review: There may be no such thing as perfection, but this rulebook for an rpg set in the world of Alien comes very close. The high production values alone make this worth the price. It is a beautifully produced rule book. Better yet, however, are the mechanics, which are easy to learn and capture the world of the Alien films very effectively. Indeed, this game allows you to play in that world to a disturbing extent. The panic rules -- borrowed from Call of Cthulhu's sanity -- add to the horror atmosphere. While I think I'll be more inclined to the "Cinematic" version of play -- one-shot episodes which effectively create a story from the Alien franchise -- the "Campaign" version is fully supported in here. While I think the coverage of the various colonies could be reduced (you only need to read a couple to get the gist) and the included Scenario set in Hadley's Hope been developed further, this is an outstanding product. This is my first Free League game -- it won't be the last.

Title: Great licensed tabletop RPG. Stay frosty.
Review: The game is well done, with an efficient rule set that can take you from a long haul space truckers sandbox to a scripted cinematic colonial marines campaign very easily. The challenge with licensed games is sustaining interest outside of the main attraction. In this case, it's the ALIEN that brings you in. As opponents, they do not disappoint, being extremely lethal in almost every circumstance. That lethality makes them difficult to sustain as an opponent because they'll most likely wipe out all but the most experienced colonial marines squads in very few encounters. Even meeting just one ALIEN at a time can lead to multiple character deaths (like the included scenario, Hope's Last Day, which is a cinematic journey through the eyes of the last few survivors of the Haley's Hope colony).Fortunately, the game provides ideas and random tables that can help pull together longer form campaigns around the three character group concepts: space truckers, planetary colonists, and the colonial marines.Players might demand to see the ALIEN, however, despite the lethality of the game's namesake organism. And that might cut short your experience with this game.Unless it's a cinematic scenario with many ALIENS, the best advice is to keep the ALIEN as a limited and isolated event, for occasional use only. Make sure to throw them in, but don't make it an everyday occurrence.

Title: Amazing system. Slick and brutal.
Review: PROS:The system design is slick and easy to learn. It also produces a fairly brutal game that readily simulates stress and panic having a tangible mechanical effect. The game is also designed to aid the GM in recreating the feel of the movies, though (as with any TTRPG) you do need to know what you're doing in order to pull off the intended effect/atmosphere.Mechanically, many of the system is geared toward expediting gameplay and spending less time micromanaging resources. Don't misunderstand me though, this does not mean resources are not tracked in some way. After all, this is a survival horror game, so resources play a (potentially) big part, but the "how" is handled through periodic dice rolls to see if resources decrease. Ammo is handled similarly, which I did not like at first, but came to understand the point and have since come to love. Now, contrary to resources being handled by way of a bit of abstraction, stress is kept strict track of and can result in panic. This mechanic is so simple yet effective, but it needs to be handled intelligently by the GM. This leads me to one of the other things I love about this game: the rules themselves encourage you to NOT roll dice unless it is a moment doing so would have a cinematically dramatic impact. Combat, sneaking by a xenomorph that is searching for you, bypassing a damaged airlock door--sure, roll. Trying to hail a colony to get docking permission--don't roll. See what I mean?CONS:Honestly, as far as the system goes, I don't have any issues there. My only complaint is the book layout--it is actually quite beautiful and full of great artwork, but it has a LOT of empty/wasted space. I know they wanted to show off the art and make it easy to read, but they went WAY overboard with the blank space between sections and sidebars. Actually, the layout makes everything look like a sidebar. My guess would be that part of the reason for this is to "fluff" the size of the book, thus making it seem more impressively thick. In actuality, all it did was make me feel jived. I will say though, there is no lack of information. The system is thorough, and the amount of lore present is equally so.If you're into the ALIEN franchise and you want to play out scenarios in the setting, buy this book. You will not regret it.
