Title: How to Recall the 1980s - completely
Review: Ah, the 1980s - when everything seemed to be `recovering and the movies reflected that. In many ways what we saw on the cinema screen took us aware from the mundane normalcy of everyday life. A time of entertainment and far-fetched tales and lots of fantasies of all kinds. And a reminder of of mistakes we'd made in the last decade.Take a look at what editor and commentator Jürgen Müller has gathered to represent that decade - and enjoy the images and the ideas and forget about right now - for a while. The movies represented in this volume are Escape from New York, Lola, Conan the Barbarian, Fitzcarraldo, Body Heat, Reds, Das Boot, Chariots of Fire, Blow Out, Time Bandits, Flashdance, Fanny and Alexander, E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial, Tootsie, Scarface, Querelle, First Blood, Blade Runner, Gandhi, The Draughtsman's Contract, Sophie's Choice, Rumble Fish, Terms of Endearment, The Big Chill, Once Upon a Time in America, The Right Stuff, Desperately Seeking Susan, Paris, Texas, The Terminator, The Breakfast Club, Ghost Busters, Brazil, Places in the Heart, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Amadeus, The Company of Wolves, Beverly Hills Cop, Under the Volcano, A Passage to India, Back to the Future, To Live and Die in L.A., The Fly, Witness, Blue Velvet, After Hours, Prizzi's Honor, Hannah and Her Sisters, Kiss of the Spider Woman, Out of Africa, Ran, Top Gun, My Beautiful Laundrette, A Room with a View, The Untouchables, The Name of the Rose, Angel Heart, Highlander, Platoon, Aliens, Stand by Me, Little Shop of Horrors, Full Metal Jacket, A Fish Called Wanda, Bird, Fatal Attraction, Au revoir les enfants, The Last Emperor, Moonstruck, Pelle the Conqueror, Babette's Feast, Die Hard, The Unbearable Lightness of Being, Lethal Weapon, Wall Street, Big, Rain Man, Dead Ringers, Working Girl, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Mississippi Burning, Dead Poets Society, Batman, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Dangerous Liaisons, Sex, Lies, and Videotape, Miller's Crossing, Pretty Woman, Crimes and Misdemeanors, When Harry Met Sally..., My Left Foot: The Story of Christy Brown, Driving Miss Daisy, Nikita, Born on the Fourth of July, Dick Tracy, Dances with Wolves, Total Recall, Edward Scissorhands, The Sheltering Sky, Goodfellas, Misery and even more.Taschen and Jürgen Müller have provided a taste of history and social change, shown the gradual evaluation of films about Vietnam, and touched on so many other aspects that films so seamlessly presented. It is an eye-opener of a book. Grady Harp, August 12

Title: a bit too artsy fartsy
Review: I was looking for both a nostalgia trip and inspiration for forgotten gems, but this was a bit too preoccupied with high falutin flicks and a bit less with pure entertainment. Of course, it does make a decent coffee table photo book, so there is that.

Title: Good read for any movie buff.
Review: Good book, pretty cheap considering it's hardcover. Lots of large colour photos, it covers most of the major hollywood movies of the 80's ( and there sure were some great ones ) as well as some foreign movies. The introduction is a bit airy fairy, but the rest is good, makes me want to get out the movies he talks about that I haven't seen yet.

Review: I recently purchased the Best Movies of the 70's. I loved the material for each of the big movies, that, I had to buy this book of the 80's.Obviously, it only gives you a short list of the best movies of the decade, but, you could always search for another publication for a more detailed line up of best movies of the 80's if you are really into your film releases.I enjoyed flicking through the memorable movies.
