Title: Still Scary...and fun
Review: I purchased this book as one that I fondly remembered from childhood. I don't know for certain how many times my brother and I checked this out from the public library, but it was a lot. The stories in it are fun and the artwork is fantastic. As a matter of fact, even though I remember most of the stories from reading them before, it's the artwork that lodged this book into my head so firmly. Although all black and white, the images are spooky and gruesome. Exactly what an impressionable pre-teen needs to be sufficiently creeped out!The stories themselves are usually 1 to 2 pages each and are still fun. While they wouldn't scare the bejeepers out of me today, I can see why I was drawn to them as a child. The last section of stories is also fun as they are in the same line as the spooky tales, but are intended to be humorous and silly. All in all this is a fun book for kids of all ages and I really was glad that I went ahead and purchased one of my childhood favorites.

Title: Nostalgia!
Review: This book is nostalgic for me. As a kid, we'd hide in the closet and read this book by flashlight. Back then, the stories were scary and stuck with you. I made sure to buy this version of the book to get the original artwork that was in them. Reading them now, the stories are definitely directed toward children (as described) and aren't quite as terrifying as I remember, but still fun to read through and remember. What makes this a complete five star for me is the illustrations, which in my opinion, are even scarier as an adult!Great purchase, great memories. I recommend it, especially for those who grew up with these books! Also, I bought a used copy to make sure that I got the version with the original drawings. There is a newer version out there that doesn't have Stephen Gammell's work in it, so beware about that if you're buying it for the art work!

Title: One of the greatest books of our generation.
Review: I loved this book as a kid.I remember waiting for the book fair days to come, the excitement of what there may be. When I bought this book, I was so happy as a child. Now I have children of my own, and we were telling ghost stories by the fire.I realized - I know the perfect resource, and I went online and found the kindle edition of scary stories! It was everything I remembered and it was a hit at the fireside ghost story chat! The illustrations drive home the overall spook factor of this book. If you haven't read it, or heard these stories, grab it!If you have, but don't own it, GRAB IT!Seriously this is a great value - there are also 2 more books in the series which are well worth it - but nothing beats the original!

Title: Underwhelming
Review: I love horror anthologies because of the way short stories play out faster with few drag periods. But these short stories are REALLY short! And not particularly scary either. The stories which are basically how-to's on telling a scary story in group settings were real throw aways for me. There are a few stories that meet the creepy, eerie factor but most are just amusing. Not terrible, but not great.
