“Best Travel Series of The Year 2006” —Booklist

Your travel guide to the land of voodoo, hoodoo, and backwater bayous! Just hearing the name “Louisiana” is enough to conjure up all sorts of strange visions in one’s imagination: haunted Old South plantations, French Quarter mansions, and white marble and limestone towers that house the dead. And, of course, there’s Mardi Gras, the most surreal and extravagant celebration in the country. Author Roger Manley (who caught a “swamp monster” in the bayous behind his family’s home) knows and reveals everything about this state of the weird, wacky, and wonderful.

Title: Great for trip planning
Review: I am enjoying this book so very much. Whenever I plan a trip, it takes me quite a while to figure out exactly what I want to do and where I want to go. My vacations are not typical of anybody elses. This book is fascinating with so many unique things to discover. I recommend this book for any traveler to Louisiana. It has some really good information and things and places that you would not want to miss if you were traveling to Louisiana. It is a lot of fun to read bits and pieces of the book and dream and plan about your future trips. I recommend this book as a very good read.

Title: Weird LA
Review: I am finding many new places to visit! The book is more "intellectual" than I expected from the title, but it is also more educational than I expected. While the book would be useful for anyone planning to visit the state, it may be more useful to people who want to know their own state better. Maybe best of all is that many of the stories are inspirational as well as entertaining and educational.

Title: A fun and fabulous romp through the swamps
Review: A tride and true travel guide to the land of voodoo, hoodoo, and backwater bayous. Covered amongst the strange and bizare are Marie Laveau, Mardi Gras, Zulu Aid, Pleasure Society, Black magic, Northside Skull and Bones Gang, new-ish Box of Wine, and DIY parade. It's all here with no match before or after. A highly recommended read for new and old adventurers.
