“Wow!!!! It simply took my breath away so much that I finished this book in one go! Literally took my breath away! I simply couldn’t put the book down. Unputdownable.” Tropical Girl Reads Books, ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Her daughter, with emerald eyes and the sweetest smile, is everything to her. Her whole world. “Mommy,” the little girl says, touching her mother’s face with trembling fingers before she’s torn away. “Don’t cry.” Will she ever see her again?

When single mother Alison Nolan sets off with her six-year-old daughter, Hazel, she can’t wait to spend precious time with her girl. A vacation in Silent Lake, where snow-topped mountains are surrounded by the colors of fall, is just what they need. But hours later, Alison and Hazel vanish into thin air.

Detective Kay Sharp rushes to the scene. The only evidence that they were ever there is an abandoned rental car with a suitcase in the back, gummy bears in the open glove compartment and a teddy bear on the floor.

Kay’s mind spins. A week before, the body of another woman from out of town was found wrapped in a blanket, her hair braided and tied with feathers. Instinct tells her that the cases are connected––and it won’t be long until more innocent lives are lost.

As Kay leads a frenzied search, time is against her, but she vows that Alison and little Hazel will be found alive. She works around the clock, even though the small town is up in arms, saying she’s asking too many questions. Then she uncovers a vital clue – a photograph of the blanket that the first victim was buried in.

Just when Kay thinks she’s found the missing piece, she realises she’s being watched. Is she getting too close, or is her own past catching up with her?

With a little girl’s life on the line, Kay will stop at nothing. But will it be enough to get inside the mind of the most twisted killer she has ever encountered, or will another blameless child be taken?

A totally gripping and utterly pulse-pounding crime thriller series for readers who love Lisa Regan, Robert Dugoni and Kendra Elliot. This twist-packed page-turner gives “unputdownable” a whole new meaning!

Title: Wolfe delivers again with another gripping crime thriller.
Review: The Girl from Silent Lake by bestselling author Leslie Wolfe is another gripping crime thriller that will have you on the edge of your seat. Detective Kay Sharp is book 1 in what promises to be another fine collection by this prolific writer. The author again weaves another suspense filled crime thriller with plenty twists and turns that easily draws the reader in from the opening chapter. The book description gives a sneak preview: ‘She felt a shiver up her spine as she approached the body, as if its coldness was somehow touching her own soul. The girl in the shallow grave was wrapped in a blanket like a newborn baby. Her skin was porcelain white, as if kissed by snow, and her hair was braided, tied with feathers. What had happened to this poor innocent girl?... Detective Kay Sharp vowed she’d never return to her childhood home. On the night of her thirteenth birthday her broken family was shattered beyond repair and leaving was the only option. Unable to fix her own past, she’s been an FBI profiler for over a decade, desperate to save others…. But now Kay’s back and only she can solve the crime that has rocked the tight-knit community of Mount Chester to its core. A dead woman has been found by Silent Lake under the dew-covered Fall leaves, her hair braided and her body wrapped in a blanket. This small town may be a stranger to murder, but Kay recognizes the signs of a serial killer. She’s certain that the ritualistic nature of the scene means it’s just a matter of time until he strikes again––unless she catches him first… As yellow do-not-cross tape flaps in the biting wind, another woman is reported missing. Kay leads a frenzied search for out-of-towner Alison Nolan and when she locates her car, Kay’s blood turns to ice as she shines her flashlight on the backseat and sees a teddy bear. Alison’s six-year-old little girl, Hazel, has vanished too… Kay knows the missing-person investigation could turn into a murder case at any second. But as she hunts for the culprit, her own past closes in on her. Can she find the killer before it’s too late? And will the secret she thought she’d buried stay that way?’The story unfurls in small acts, at first feeling slight to touch, then building in emotional substance. Into the spaces between the words, the author breathes a pulsating intensity that rolls like a motion picture camera. With an abundance of imagery in the writing style, it makes you feel like you are right there in the story, and that’s something I look for in a good book.I enjoyed the story, character development, and dialogue. There were plenty of plot twists that I didn’t see coming and that added to the book’s mystique. When I stopped reading to work, I found myself wondering what happened in the book, and replaying parts of the story in my head to see if I could figure more out. It has been a while since I enjoyed a book this much.If you are looking for a well-written crime thriller with amazing characters and a gripping plot then ‘The Girl from Silent Lake’ will not leave you disappointed. Highly recommended and a well-deserved five stars from me.

Title: Compelling
Review: Graphic violence and sexual abuse triggersThis stand-alone is easy to follow but at times difficult to read due to emotions evoked. Minor editing errors, no gratuitous violence or drag-you-down drama. Not all questions are answered.Intriguing storyline with descriptive, occasionally dramatic, writing that draws the reader into each scene. Flexible procedures, actions and reactions. Believable characters with distinct personalities and emotional baggage. Thought-provoking dialogue.‘Because there’s one thing about the truth: it always comes out into the light, and when it does, some of the shadows it casts can throw some people into darkness forever.‘“He’ll have a cold look in his eyes and tension in his jaw. He’ll be alone, not with family. And when you make eye contact with him, you’ll feel an uneasiness, something unfurling in your gut. That’s your instinct, telling you you’re in the presence of a homicidal sociopath, a predator. A hunter.”No desire to re-read this story. I am always interested in works by this author.

Title: Edge of your seat read
Review: This was my first book by Leslie Wolfe and I can happily say it will not be my last. What an excellent thrill ride of a book! Fast pace with an excellent storyline. Good characters whom I'm guessing we will get to know more as the series develops. Strong female lead, which is always a nice bonus. Trying to figure out who the killer is...always right there, just out of your grasp. Excellent! Highly recommend!

Title: Very Intense Book
Review: This is the sort of book that you'll find yourself really drawn into right away. There are quite a few twists and turns in the plot. I wasn't really sure what to expect, and for a while, I wondered how this book was going to end. It was interesting to find out what led our main character, Kay, to an FBI career.Despite really liking the plot of this story, there were two things that I didn't like about this book. First, there were a few places where information that was revealed in one part of the book doesn't seem to fit with information that was revealed later in the story. This could be a bit confusing, and I wasn't sure which information to believe. Second, I felt like it was too obvious too early who the serial killer was. Yes, we have to figure out the guy's motives, but we know about a third of the way through the book who he is, although our main character doesn't know. It was just disappointing to not have that mystery to solve. This book does have some swearing in it. I think the f-bomb's dropped at least once. While I wouldn't say the book as a whole has a lot of swearing, it was there, and there are a few scenes that have a lot of swearing. This book does have some topics that might be difficult for some readers to handle. They include rape, sexual assault, child predators, murder, domestic abuse, police corruption, and bribery. When it comes to sexual issues and violence, there are definitely books that go into more graphic detail, but they go far enough in this book that there were parts of the story that made me a bit uncomfortable.Overall, I would say that this was an enjoyable, intense read. I'm interested in reading the next book in the series, mostly because Kay has a secret, and I'm wondering how long she can hide it.
