Title: At the end of the universe lies the beginning of vengeance
Review: I can remember walking out of Star Trek: The Motion Picture disappointed at the pedestrian plot, the wooden dialog and swearing that I would never watch another Star Trek feature film.I watched the Star Trek television show as a teenager. The show really did go where no "man" (if you include a television audience) went before. An international cast (well, at least the characters were international) that included a half-human, half-Vulcan character named Spock. At times campy, the show was always relevant. The special effects were adequate, though if viewed today perhaps a bit cheesy, Somehow the Star Trek movie missed the spirit and the purpose of the show. Then came the second installment, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. Many consider it the best of the movies. The story of the making of that movie is told by John Tenuto and Marie Jose Tenuto in their book STAR TREK II: THE WRATH OF KHAN: THE MAKING OF THE CLASSIC FILM.Well-researched and conversational in tone, the book takes you through history, from bringing in Harve Bennett, a TV guy (for crying out loud!) and essentially freezing out creator Gene Roddenberry. From the multiple scripts to asking a 36-year-old Nicholas Meyer to helm the project. The new additions to the crew included Kirstie Allen in essentially her first role in a motion picture. The constant battles over budget. Plenty of behind-the-scenes looks at make-up, special effects, staging, and camera work. The insights into how the actors prepared for their roles, many careful to represent the "canon" of Star Trek, demonstrate how special working on this film was for many of them.John and Maria Jose Tenuto are both college professors. The book never strays into the pedantic, rather it's like listening to the best college lecture you ever heard. The book itself is filled with photos and pages from the script.Even if you're a casual Star Trek fan (I include myself in this category) you will enjoy this 192-page tribute to a movie that is now 40 years old and yet still remains fresh and relevant.

Title: Enjoyable inside look at the best Star Trek movie!
Review: The text offers enjoyable anecdotes about the making of the movie, but the headliner here is beautiful images. I'd never seen most of them in any other publication.

Title: Unbelievable omission
Review: Outstanding record of the best ST movie and a genuine American classic. But somehow over 192 pages the authors only dedicate one paragraph to James Horner’s score. The music to WOK is essential to appreciating and understanding the movie. Even if you don’t believe it one of the best ever composed, as I do, the music is remarkable in its effect. I opened the book and went straight to the chapter headings to find the soundtrack chapter first. There isn’t one. Then I did a quick scan of the entire text. There’s not even a Heading or Sidebar about Horner and the score. I finally found it mentioned in one paragraph near the end.An otherwise lovely book. But this omission is hard to forgive or explain

Review: I love this book! Star Trek II The Wrath of Khan is the best movie in the franchise and the book tells the fascinating story behind the movie. The photos are high quality and I find myself going through the book time and time again. This is the perfect follow up of the Motion Picture book released a few years ago. As a longtime Trekkie, I’ll always be looking for books like this.
