Title: The RETURN OF DRACULA film is terrifically bad fun
Review: Make NO mistake , I'll be getting this set . I can only address THE RETURN OF DRACULA film though , as i have not seen the other film here . "Cus" Belack ? (spelling ?) is a scream . You (meaning virtually any man or woman on Earth) has more acting chops and charisma than the DRAC to be found here . That's a HUGE part of the charm of this picture though . The leading young lady is a fresh and unfamiliar (to me) face and talent . Lots of good and charming stuff in a script thin as rice paper . Also , a large sum of well placed HONKS , SCREAMS , SHOUTS and so on (always right on cue) to prevent TOO much harm to our lovely , young lass . Pure unadulterated Americana meets German Schlock mastery . The blind gal is PRICELESS . The Doctor (of theology ?) reads those cue cards to beat the band when he meets our cut-rate Van Helsing (actually some pretty fair acting on his part) . Based on the one film alone , you OWE it to yourself to get this bundle . Seriously . I'm gonna NOW . UPDATE : Beginning to stream THE VAMPIRE now . About fifty minutes in . While clearly the technically more proficient of the two films (in every respect) this film (VAMPIRE) may well be less ingratiating than the RETURN as it appears to be FAR less campy and self conscious than the HOWLER in "the pack" .

Title: Return to Mayberry with the town doctor and Dracula
Review: Both of these movies occur in small towns with an Aunt Bea, an Andy and Opie (well, Opette in the case of the Vampire). These are two of my all time favorite Grade B chillers. The Halloween Party in Return of Dracula is one of the all time goofy greats ranking right up there with the shindig for kids in the Giant Gila Monster and the gangs hideway fest in I Was A Teenage Werewolf. At this party, a number of ladies leaning heavily toward the back side of middle age have a contest to see who has the best costume. (Chuckle, chuckle, yuk, yuk). I guess the movie needed some lighthearted moments since Opie's kitty kat had been killed by Drac and a blind girl at the Church parish house had been a victim of Drac.As to The Vampire, a doctor had been experimenting with tablets that would unleash the beast in us all. Seems little, sweet Opette accidently gave a bottle of those tablets to her great pop, another doctor instead of aspirin. The doctor begins to feel something is amiss as his patients begin to die off one by one, a great looking broad to an old spinster.Well, hero cop, portrayed by Kenneth Tobey traces the evidence and finds out he does not really know what is going on. But the doctor does so he grabs the beautiful nurse and tries to flee. Ever ready hero chases him and knocks him into a creek where a uniform cop shoots the stuffings out of the doctor, who after all was a victim of his daughters inability to tell aspirin from a terrible, aggression releasing drug.

Title: This Dracula Does Not Wear A Cape Or A Tux But......
Review: This 2 film set is a rather unique and complex pair of tales that will send chills down your spine. First of all, The Return Of Dracula is eerie and quite chilling. Dracula, who is portrayed by Francis Lederer, is a modern day type of guy. He does not wear a cape nor a tux, but, as he appears into the rooms or houses, it is with a cloud of vapor and with rather eerie tingling music with gongs. I will say no more as I would not want to spoil this for anyone. To me, this is not a "B" movie, this is top-notch stuff and done quite well if I might say so. As for the other movie, The Vampire, it too is scary and a trifle bit eerie and it is good, but doesn't hold a candle to "The Return Of Dracula". It is more of what I would call a "B" movie, although it is done quite well. Get a copy if you dare!

Title: Forgotten Dracula film released around same time as Horror of Dracula
Review: This review is for the Blu-Ray edition of 'The Return of Dracula' released by Olive Films in 2016.For those looking at this for the first time, this is a black and white movie filmed in 1958. Unfortunately for this movie, the superb "Horror of Dracula" was released right after this movie and as a result 'The Return of Dracula' suffered for attention in the box office. This movie is also known as 'Curse of Dracula' which was it's name when shown on television .BLU-RAY & EXTRA'S: This Blu-ray release is nice. It's not perfect. It starts off a bit on the weak side but clears up almost immediately. The picture is sharp for a large part of the movie so while not perfect it's better than average. The movie is black and white (mostly...more on this below) and is shown with a 1.85:1 aspect ratio. The extra's are virtually non-existent. You get subtitles and a trailer.PLOT/SUMMARY: Dracula is being hunted in Europe at the beginning of the movie. A bunch of vampire hunters find his coffin and open it only to realize he is gone. On a train, a young artist is killed by Dracula (Francis Lederer) and he assumes his identity. In the United States, a family is awaiting the arrival of their cousin, Bellack. They have not seen him in many years. A little boy, Mickey, leaves his cat stuck in a cave. Cora, a widow, her daughter Rachel and Mickey all go to the train station to greet Bellack. The train has arrived early and nobody at the train station saw anybody get off. Just then, Dracula (posing as Bellack) appears seemingly out of nowhere. He introduces himself and they go back to the family house. Dracula, takes the identity of an artist. This allows his quirky behavior to seem more normal. Dracula, to the disappointment of the family, does not want to participate in anything they do. He disappears all day to his coffin in the cave that we saw earlier.Eventually, the vampire hunters from Europe appear in town. They have discovered the dead body of the real Bellack but aren't sure of his identity yet since he was discovered without papers. They pose as immigration agents. Meanwhile, Dracula has turned a blind family friend into a vampire. He orders her to kill one of the agents. She does so by turning into a wolf. Once the body is discovered, they know they have their vampire. It's up to them, along with help from a local priest, to track down Dracula and anyone else he has turned into a vampire.PRODUCTION/COMMENTS: 'The Return of Dracula' was released in 1958 and was part of a double feature with 'The Flame Barrier'. It was produced by Gramercy Pictures and distributed by United Artists.-There is one very brief scene that is in color. When a vampire gets a stake through the heart, the blood comes flowing out in very bright red. This is quite effective but I don't like when movies due this for just one brief moment. It would look a lot better if they had several scenes with blood and they all were shown in bright red. Just once looks like a gimmick, which of course it is.-I thought the acting was decent. The casting of Francis Lederer as Count Dracula works. I didn't think his acting was top notch but it isn't bad. He looks the part. The rest of the cast is decent enough.-Like any movie about vampires or monsters in general, there are plenty of flaws in the plot. Most notably, There doesn't seem to be any reason for Dracula to stay with the Mayberry family once he leaves Europe and arrives in the United States. He could have just stayed in his cave. I get it that maybe he wants to assume an identity. But why stay with a family who would obviously note your absence all day and would see you only in the evening. Anybody would immediately know something was wrong. Especially once Dracula finds out that his pursuers are on to him. He would want to disappear as soon as possible.-For what reason would Dracula paint a picture of Rachel in a coffin? The only purpose as far as I can see, is so he can get caught.-This movie was at the tail end of Francis Lederer's career. His final movie (but not television role) came the following year and it is in "Terror is a Man". This is a movie I like very much. It is sort of a remake of Island of Lost Souls or "The Island of Dr. Moreau".-Lederer called his role as Dracula his least favorite. Though he would reprise the role of Dracula in his final appearance as an actor in 1971. He appeared as Dracula in an episode of Rod Serling's "Night Gallery".-Lederer became a very wealthy man and lived a long life until he passed away in the year 2000.RECOMMENDATIONS: I'm giving this release 3 stars. The movie is pretty good and I rate it slightly above average for a horror movie in that time period. I'm giving the movie itself 3 1/2 stars but the release is nothing special. At around $20.00 for one short old movie with no real extra's, it is not a great value. If you like this movie and by some chance do not own or have never seen Hammer Films' "Horror of Dracula", also released in 1958, you will certainly want to pick that one up.Recommended for fans of 1950's horror. Recommended for fans of Dracula. As always, recommended for completists who are looking for this movie with the best possible print.

Review: I have to say I quite enjoyed this double bill, having watched both movies in one sitting. They make a good pairing, as both were written for the screen by Pat Fielder, produced by Jules V.Levy and Arthur Gardner and directed by Paul Landres. Gerald Fried also composed the music for them. Having been released in 1958 and 1957 respectively, they are not full of blood and gore, but rely more on characterisation and a well-told story.'The Return Of Dracula' ( aka 'The Curse Of Dracula' ) stars Francis Lederer in the title role, who comes to stay with a family in a small American town, posing as their European cousin. His intention , of course, is to make vampires of them. Francis Lederer certainly looks the part and he has the right accent, having been born in Czechoslovakia.'The Vampire' ( aka 'Mark Of The Vampire' ) stars John Beal as a small-town American physician who rather stupidly swallows some pills entrusted to him by a scientist who has just died in mysterious circumstances. The effect of the pills is to turn him into a blood-sucking vampire who kills his victims at night. The storyline is really more Dr.Jekyll and Mr.Hyde than Dracula. The excellent Kenneth Tobey plays the town sheriff. These movies are in black and white and in widescreen. The quality is superb.
