Title: It IS Zappa's Best Band
Review: Why did I stop listening to Zappa in the early 80's? Because the band that he had assembled after the demise of the Underwood/Brock/Thompson/Fowler based bands of the 70's just didn't match up to the level of genius, in my own small opinion. Joe's Garage? Did you hear that fart sound? Well, that was me giving my review of the domages. For some reason, chemistry?, changing times?, mistakes?, the band that did most of the music in the early 80's just did not work , once again in my own opinion. Consequently, I stopped listening to Zappa. Then, Zappa changed his band once again and had actually achieved a goal with this new band that he had sought for decades. Yes, decades. The late 80's band actually was the Greatest Band That I Never Heard in my life. His goal, often completely unrecognized, was the performance of LIVE MUSIC WITHOUT THE USE OF OVERDUBS. Secretly, Zappa hated overdubs. He wanted you to hear it there, while you were there. He did not want to take it back to the Studios Of Muffin to add later toots and thumps and plucks. If it needed more music , then he considered it almost a failure. BUT, with this album, The Best Band You Never Heard In Your Life, Frank achieved one of his dreams(I think), that is to play music, live music with the entire sound created there. Folks, he did it. This album is tight with tallent, teamwork and intent. It rocks, it jazzes, and it classics, just like Frank. Supposedly "Make a Jazz Noise Here" and One Other 90's Album were all assembled from shows made with this accomplished band. This is a great album. 4 out of 4 stars. Johnny P.

Title: Its a virtual collage of music !!!
Review: As always Zappa is genius in the way he weaves his music together. With strands of music coming from all different directions, it is a virtual collage of musical pieces, held together in an amazing way !!!

Title: Being an almost strict completionist
Review: This is one of the best bands you will ever hear - playing arrangements not expected of tunes unrelated for folks who wouldn't get it. This is an insider's record - the Zappa Fan & Musicians will always get these dated FZ gags; but to hear the band play Bolero & Stairway to Heaven with the full fantastic horn section & Ike Willis' near spot on perfect vocals is worth the buffunery that holds it together. Alan West makes and appearance - & being quite the lib I must almost always skip that irritating little weasel's rant on dig...but the rest - is Historical Hysteria Disjointed by available takes I fear. A sneaky part of the YCDTOSA Collection along with Make a Jazz Noise & Broadway the Hard Way gives a last alive LIVE concert collection that when re-dismembered quickly becomes one of the great seamless concert CD groupings to ever exist.

Title: You can't miss
Review: If you go in for live Zappa this album rates near the best official live releases I've heard. For first timers interested in exploring the live Zappa experience I'd still recommend Roxy & Elsewhere or YCDTOSA Volume 1 but If you have those already then you can't miss with this one. Any live disc that includes the trio of "Florentine Pogen" "Andy" "Inca Roads" is a winner in my book, so long as sound quality is there. And as this is an official release it's there (I'm referring of course to the "Beat the boots" volumes - buyer beware).

Title: best band in the world you never heard
Review: this was a replacement cd for the one I bought when it was first released. It is the best band in the world you never heard.Zappas music depended a lot on the musicians available to play it.These are the best and some of the music is the most complex Zappa you will ever hear. The complexity of the music means that I still discover new bits 20 years after it was first released

Saludos.

Review: Returning to listen to Zappa after 30 years this album is a revelation. An excellent recording from live performance it is punchy with terrific sound stage and separation. It is possibly the most listenable of Zappa albums as well. An essential addition to your Zappa and avant garde collection
